It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Dont you wiSh they'd show the eyes on dolls ?

Aug 30, 2012

    1. :aheartbea

eyeS can change a dolls character from evil to good
      or fiction to realistic ..

but how can you tell how will these "eyes"
your picking are gonna match your dolls character
      or fit right

i always have problems with buying eyes
the color looks right and then when i get them
they just dont seem how i imagined ..

i think they should start viewing/selling the eyes
shown on a doll not juSt eyes alone

      your thoughts ?

    2. I completely agree that more companies should show the eyes on a doll head. It's ridiculous to try to choose by looking at a ball with color on it.

    3. Some companies do. I can't remember which, but they were very expensive eyes that I couldn't afford to buy anyway. Sometimes a company will have an owners gallery where they have photos of dolls wearing the eyes they purched.

I agree. More companies should feature photos!

    4. Dollmore shows pictures, or at least a closeup of the eye inside the socket. But due to really bad positioning it doesn't tell you anything really.
Also, even if they'd provide pictures, I don't think that would help for other dolls and other eye sizes anyway.

    5. It's better to have picture of eyes on a doll head. But eyes can look totally different depends on sculpt and make-up. So it doesn't really help, I think. I prefer to go to doll events(like expo) and see the eyes in person.
We usually let our customer to try the eyes on their dolls.

    6. Seing the eyes in a doll really would be great! Also seeing them in different lightings when in the doll would be awesome! I've bought so many eyes that had a wonderful color outside of the doll or with super studio lighting, but in normal daylight they can't even reflect a single ray of sunshine and they just appear as black :( makes me sad.

    7. I can agree, it would be nice to see the doll eyes inside of a doll head. I think that's why I like Safrindoll. They don't show the whole head, but they do show the socket, so you get an idea of what the eyes look like in a doll head.

    8. I think it does help when they show the eyes in a head - the make up and sculpt can make it look different, but it's still better than just seeing the eyeball imo.

    9. I'm going to go against the general population here and say I'd rather see the eyes OUT of the doll. I know what colors I like and I'd rather not have certain skintones, wigs, faceups, etc distracting me from the basic eye. The same pair of eyes can look very different in different dolls and I'd rather see exactly what it is instead of how some other doll makes it look.

    10. Why not have both ways? Seeing them inside and outside of the doll is probably the best way to market them, and I really don't think it's going to be terribly inconvenient to do that, either.

Even when Dollmore shows that little image of the eye inside a doll, that really doesn't do anything to help me. It's better than nothing, but still. I'm not the best at envisioning things in terms of this hobby (I can't envision face ups on blank dolls, either), so it would benefit me if I could see the eyes in a head.

    11. This.

Why choose? You can see the eye itself, and then see it in a doll head. :)

    12. Safrin Doll shows at least some of their eyes both in and out of dolls. But even then I don't think it's always possible to tell how the eyes will look on your specific doll, because each doll is different and things like colors can be distorted on some monitors.

    13. i agree. much easier to choose that way. that's why i like ginarolo here on the forum. she shows all her for sale eyes in the dolls. =) very helpful!

    14. I have bought eyes twice now that have been too dark once I put them into the head. I'd like to see both really, but to pick one or the other, I would still choose out of the head for a clearer view.

    15. I also prefer to see the eyes in a doll, and rarely do I have the opportunity to view them in a doll's head before purchasing them. I like to see how the light will catch the eye when it's actually in the head.

    16. Ginarolo shows the eyes in a doll.

I think I do like that, seeing the eyes in the doll... In the dolls is how the eyes will be seen, after all, so if that changes the color, that's important...

    17. I'm with you on this one. I don't need the distraction of someone elses style choices to throw off my ideas. I think a person is just as likely to get an eye and still not get what they hoped for. An 18mm green eye in a sculpt with wide open eyes is still not going to tell what they'd look like as a 14mm in a dreaming sculpt.
Companies show wigs on dolls 100% of the time and I still have a terrible time finding wigs that look right on my guys.

On a practical note, all that eye changing and photography would take an epic amount of time. They'd have less time to answer questions and make eyes while they took all these extra images. And what is in it for them? There's no guarantee that it would do anything to increase their business or improve their image a company. It just seems like a PITA with no reward if I look at it that way. Maybe it would be a good marketing technique for a new company trying to build clientele?

    18. No.... I'd rather see the eye au naturel. I want to see exactly what I'm getting. Having the individual eye closeup photos be well-lit, clearly-focused, and of high resolution all helps, of course.

The eye company could never show enough different types of doll to satisfy everyone's need to know what they look like in a doll's head. At some point, you have to use your brains and your inner eye, & make an educated guess as to whether an eye is what you're looking for.

But I do appreciate when the site has a gallery, either samples or customer submissions, that illustrate the eyes in use. For example, the Gumdrops site is great; you get glorious closeups of exactly what those eyes look like by themselves, and there's also a customer gallery.

    19. I don't really understand why they don't show them inside a doll head, as well as outside. Sometimes I think the pictures some companies take are really not helpful for a lot of things, not just eyes. Like it bugs me when none of the pictures for a particular sculpt show the sculpt straight on, because certain angles can really affect the appearance of a doll, but in general when you look at it, it will be from a straight-on viewpoint. Also limited pictures of outfits really annoys me. But the eye thing is definitely the worst.

    20. You know, I'd love it if a clothing store would show me pictures of how their clothes look on my bodytype and weight, but that's not going to happen. Instead, I'll just have to see and try for myself what works and what doesn't.

I prefer to see the eyes out of the doll. I don't want to be distracted and I want to see what the eyes look like in a well-lit picture. What looks good on the doll in the photo, doesn't always look good on yours.
