1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ebay recasts: can we report them?

Feb 6, 2014

    1. I check Ebay for BJD stuff about once or twice a week, and occasionally someone selling recasts comes up. The word recast is in the title, so they are not hiding it. Is it worth reporting them to Ebay or the company the recast is from, and is there a channel through which to do so? Is there a Ebay section/list on DoA that I can report the seller's name to, to warn people in case the seller neglects to admit it's a recast in future?

On one hand it might be someone who was tricked themselves into buying the recast just trying to get some of their money back, but given the risk of health damage from badly cast resin, it seems wrong to inflict that on someone else.

    2. I think that others have tried to report recasts to ebay before and ebay has told them that they can't do anything unless the original artist and creator of the original dolls makes a complaint. (Which is terrible and so completely ridiculous) I don't see any harm in reporting it, there's a chance that maybe more people bringing it up will urge them to do something. But also letting the company know might not be a bad idea, they may actually get more action taken. :)

    3. The best course of action given Ebay's rather stupid and dumb restrictions on reporting the fake is to contact the original doll company directly and link them to the auction/sales page and tell them about Ebay's defunct reporting policy, if potential customer's cannot make a report on the obvious recast then it gives the recaster/seller more time to possibly sell the recast.
So please do it right away. the sooner you bring it to the attention of the doll company the sooner they can do something about it.

    4. I have reported recasts on numerous occasions. Whenever I see a recast, I report the listing. There is an option for fraudulent and bootlegged items/ intellectual copyright. I have had these auctions get removed. It does work, just be persistent and label correctly! I usually include a link to the original site.

    5. there was some discussion about the ebay problem on this thread recently http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...ences-of-copied-dolls/page32&highlight=recast It seems ebay don't care unless it's handbags or something they can understand! I guess the more people complain about it though, the more possibility that ebay might take it seriously. Meanwhile I check my 'blacklist' any time I see bjd stuff I like on ebay - not just dolls - because these people also sell legitimate dolls, clothes etc. and I don't want to give them my money!

    6. Ive reported things before and they did nothing.

    7. Also, if you do get a Bootlegg, Ebay gives you the run around until you give up trying to get your money back. They require you to prove that the item you brought is a bootleg/fake/counterfit by sending you some website that does authentications.

Unfortunately, the website they send to you does nothing to prove that your item is a fake. they just take your money.

    8. Given the fact that the number of BJD buyers is relatively small for eBay to actually do something, don't go around complaining about whether or not they should or shouldn't. They aren't used to these things and don't understand the nature of this hobby. Just go ahead and suggest a complaint to the legit company and if they care enough for their own business, they'll act upon it. If they don't, well then you've done what you could.

    9. If ebay is giving the run around, then contact your credit card issuer, they too can investigate, and help return your funds. I don't buy anything of value, or brand from ebay. I buy myriads of things from lightbulbs, to books.
I'm disappointed in general when people scam others.
No one kens the significance of the word integrity as they should.

    10. I usually report the auctions as selling "counterfeits." Yeah--ebay doesn't seem to be doing much, but then, that's pretty much how they respond to just about anything.

The blacklist idea is good. I don't want these people getting my money, either!

I also try to notify Grace at jpopdolls, as she is working with Korean and other BJD companies to help stamp out those making and selling re-casts.

====Here's the notice she sent out a year ago about how to help reporting stuff====

      Hi Everyone,
Ok, here is the form to fill out. You can copy and paste it. Get rid of the explanations and put in the information. One of the biggest issues paypal and ebay have is our language in the bjd world.
Much of what we understand is totally foreign to them. So often we report something to them, but they have no way to know what we are talking about or where to go to see things like original photos stolen off websites. This will quickly help them understand why an auction is selling counterfeits.

Reporting Type : Counterfeit, recast, illegal reproduction, stolen photos..

Why ? Explain here so ebay and paypal understand why this is counterfeit, tell about price, or using company photos. Things said in the auction, such as cannot be shown on DOA...anything you can say to make them understand

      Website Address:
Here put the Url of the ebay auction, or if you know a website that uses paypal and is selling counterfeit dolls, WE can report those too!!!

      Supporting Documentation:
Here put the website of the original company, try to give the url that has the photo of the doll on ebay.

Send to me at [email protected] We will forward this to the risk and fraud people.
      Hugs and kisses to everyone
      Grace

    11. I second the form above. 'Recast' isn't a term that eBay understands, it's an in-hobby term that we all understand but to outsiders nothing about the word 'recast' indicates counterfeit. What needs to be done is to keep reporting the recast sales to eBay as counterfeit items and in the explanation for why you're reporting it explain that 'recast' is another way of saying 'counterfeit' or 'bootleg'. eBay definitely knows what those terms are.

EBay, like rocks, takes a long time to wear down and change, but by being clear about what is meant by recast at least they are learning about how people are using ebay to get counterfeits into the open market.

    12. Many of the Korean companies are joining forces with KOTRA and the FBI to shut down recast sellers. For instance, this notice from Soom: http://dollsoom.com/eng/gem.html So even if eBay does nothing, you should report the auction to the doll company.

    13. I have reported upfront recasts as bootleg, explained why and the listing disappeared...

    14. Thanks for the advice, April, that's helpful. I just came across an alarming set of eBay auctions that looks like Fairyland recasts, best as I can tell. I sent emails to Grace and to the contact at the Fairyland company also.

    15. When I come across a recast on ebay, I usually notify the doll company and send them a link. When I can - there's not always an option to report an item - I report it to ebay, too, as a counterfeit item and telling them that recasts are illegal. I don't know what exactly the companies are doing with the info I send them but most of them reply with a short notice of thanks and that they've handed the information over to the relevant people.

    16. Wait, Health damage? I am brand new to the hobby and don't own any recasts. Still, if there is an issue with resin causing health issues I want to know about it!! Should I post a separate thread about this question??

    17. There was a company a long time ago called Forever Doll that sold re-cast Volks dolls where the resin was really poor quality and hazardous to work with for customization. They are ancient history and I hope their dolls are too. But even with legit dolls one should wear proper respiratory gear when sanding/modding dolls. there is a big sticky top of the Customization forum about working with resin and protecting your health here:

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...you-need-to-know-about-respiratory-protection!

For the non-modding hobbyist resin is generally safe for normal play use, although I have heard of occasional people who are sensitive to the material to the point where they had to give up their dolls, but this is extremely unusual.

    18. Thank you so much, Lyrajean! This was really helpful!

    19. I don't like the idea of recasts as much as anyone else. But I've seen these recasts turn up in BJD searches and I have to admit I am grateful that it is stated right there that it is a recast. If these listings are taken down because people are reporting them, they are going to start selling them without telling you they are recasts, and that's much scarier to me.

    20. Well, you can always avoid accidentally buying a recast when you buy your doll directly from the company or an official dealer. Or ask lots of questions and ask for lots of pics before you buy one second hand. If the doll's legit, the seller shouldn't have any problem with you asking for more photos.
