1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ever changed your doll's name/think it's "OK" to?

Oct 10, 2007

    1. I hope this is in the right section. I did a search and I swear there was another thread like this in the past. But, I couldn't find it.

I've had Arnold for at least a year now, but his name has never really sat well with me - it feels awkward to say and write. However, I feel that since it's been so long, it would be WRONG to change it. I've already told people what it is, I've used it, so it might feel weird to suddenly call him something else. But I really like what his new name would be, so I don't know what to do.

What do you think? Have you ever changed your doll's name? Do you think after, say, a few months, it's somehow "wrong" to switch it? No preference?

    2. I've changed several of my dolls names months, and even years after I've had them. If the name is not right, or no longer see right, then change it. :)

    3. If if doesn't feel right to you, I say change it! I was thinking about changing one of my doll's middle names. I guess that's not really the same since it's not the name I call her, but if I don't like it, I don't like it.

    4. Why don't you have a renaming ceremony for him? Make it a special occasion for both of you :)

    5. I don't think there's anything really wrong with changing a name. It feels wierd because it feels like changing a childs name or a pets - but quite often don't we give our children and pets nicknames allowing us to call them something different from their actual name.

I remember the fit a friend of my daughters had when I renamed the lizard I bought from her mom- but I just couldn't remember let alone like the name he originally had - and quite honestly the lizard didn't care.

You don't want to cringe anytime you write or say a name - you want the name to have meaning - to be something you want to say or write. I choose the names for my dolls very carefully but even in one instance I had gotten my one doll (well his head actually) to be Ryuji, but when I ended up being able to get another head that really fit the Ryuji name better, I renamed him Ryuji and named the original Ryuji, Taji which suit him better anyways, because his head was a bit more yellow than I had expected when I ordered it and Taji means of Yellow and Silver color. If anything I think Taji is happier now that I changed his name because he actually gets more attention now.

    6. OOooo! I like that idea!

    7. I agree with everyone who's posted so far. If the current name doesn't appeal to you anymore, change it. :)

    8. I wish I'd had a little naming ceremony for Heavenlea when she arrived, but I was so overwhelmed by her I didn't think about it. Now, I'm seriously considering having one for her and the new boy when he arrives this month and my floating faceplate  It could be a joint christening ceremony!

    9. I would never change any of my dolls names after ive had them a few days even, but thats cause i make sure they fit perfectly. I would rechange the name if u must and be more careful when u name future ones.

    10. Justin and I didnt bond well at first because I was so scared to spend time with him due to his price tag so I just named him Fate Nine and called him Nine. I got him in the fall and around early spring I took him out for a photoshoot since I hadnt done one for him yet. As we were bonding I finally decided he looked like either a Justin or a Caleb, and we settled on Justin. :) He was happier and so was I!

    11. I think that it is fine. I changed my Obitsu 60cm from Artemis to Echo after a while. the name just did not suit her. Then again I also changed my cats name from Teka to Willow when she was almost 2 years old. I just decided that Teka was too akward and not pretty enough.

    12. Oh but I forgot to add that this did confuse my vet and my family, who never really could call her the right name. Oh I also wanted to add that in the Mercedes Lackey books some the Hawkbrothers change their names when they reach adulthood, and if something life changing happens they change their names as well.

    13. I found that my first doll had a name that was incredibly common (and here I thought I was being so unusual) so I changed it. Sometimes the first name you pick just doesn't fit (especially if the doll hasn't come yet!). I love the idea of a renaming ceremony! Krissy always has the cool ideas:)

    14. I'm having the same problem. I named Skillet before I got to know her personality. Skillet is one of my characters and her personality does not match my BJD's personality at all...

My family jokes that she'll have an identity crisis. XD

But if you're not happy, change the name. He may want you to. That's why it doesn't sit. ^^ Hey, we can go get our names changed, so why can't our resin buddies?

    15. Yep..and will be doing again soon...

    16. Yup, it's fine. Sometimes names will just come to you and they're perfect and others...they just don't feel right! Change his name if you want :)

    17. I changed my Camine's name when I discovered I'd named him after a type of doll, but I don't like his current name that much either and I suspect it's going to be changed again.

    18. Just done it myself. I named my AoD Mo Lan Mercia, which seemed to suit her when she arrived with me. But recently I've called her Mina by accident and it suits her a lot better. So Mina she is.

    19. People can change their name, so why wouldn't you be able to change your dolls name if you really want to? :)

Personally, I have picked out the names for my future dolls already, and I really like them because I have put a lot of time and thinking behind them ^^

So feel free to change the name if you like to I say :D

    20. Even if it sounds strange, but I think, the doll tells you his/her "real" name, when it's time. Sometimes it's at arrival, sometimes days, month, even years later and it's OK to have a temporary name up until then. If that moment comes, change the name. You and your doll will be much happier ^^.

Jepp, I'm feeling esotheric today :D
