Ever Deliberately Bought a Doll You Didn't Particularly Like? If So, Why?

Feb 4, 2015

    1. I did it just to get a body for my last doll head. I got tired of waiting for a good used body deal to come up in the marketplace. At first I was going to do a Miro body but their usual sale went off and I didn't feel like waiting for the next one. I don't want coupons for another purchase so their current promotion wasn't something I was particularly interested in. Also, I don't quite like their 60cm body as much as I like the Bobobie SD one. I have one in NS and I like a lot. I finally decided I wanted the same body in the WS tone for my last doll. I bought the doll I did because she was in stock.

I'm an impatient soul, laugh, but while I love the body I'm really not a fan of this sculpt. Other people seem to like her so I'm probably going to flip it or trade it away when she gets here. Made me wonder though if other people ever do this buy the whole doll with a head they really don't even like just because it is in stock only to get a body or vice versa? I figure I'll pretty much meet my usual budget for a body if I flip the head. Only I won't have to wait 8 weeks or longer to get it. Am I being mean to order a doll that I have absolutely no intentions of keeping the head of? I kind of feel bad. I'm such a b- but I'm not even vaguely interested in giving this poor girl a chance. :...( I just want her body for my last floating head. :wiggle

      You?

    2. I haven't (yet), but I had a friend who bought an Elfdoll boy for the body. XD I'd think you could see it as a good investment as you could always sell the head and get the body as a bonus.

    3. .....I just wanted the fantasy parts and buying the whole doll was the only way to get it. Kept the parts sold the doll. ^^;;

    4. Idk what made me do it but I bought a doll she bernard. I didn't much like doll she dolls but then I bought him, waited for him and when he came wow! He is amazing! I'm a sucker for a great poser and he beats all my other dolls at posing.

i guess you could also add in my volks iris. Her head came up on the marketplace and i sprung and bought her, I think to make her into a Harley quinn. Well her face up was so beautiful i couldn't bare to wipe it. Later I bought her body and well...i love her and will never sell her. again, I'm not typically a volks fan but she's so pretty.

    5. I suppose in a way I did this. I was splitting a large FairyLand order with a couple of other collectors, and originally planning to take the smallest of the event heads that was available (we had enough to get all event items). However, I had no plans for it--I just thought it was cuter than the larger head.

One of the other participants really wanted it, though, and did actually have plans for it, so I decided I'd figure out something to do with that other head I hadn't cared for at first. It forced me to re-evaluate it, and realize it was perfect for a character I was looking to shell. I love it now, but I'm so glad for the other participant so I realized it in time to actually get that head without paying secondhand market prices.

    6. Wow, I'm almost in the same position xD. I was going to buy a Mirodoll body for my Dollzone girl, but since the event ended, I was also looking at Bobobie bodies. I don't think its a terrible thing to flip a head. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Someone may be excited to get a good deal on just the head :)

    7. I didn't exactly buy it but I have a pair of doll heads that have ended up in my lap. They are Doll Family Li Hao Yan (that has been discontinued) heads and they are absolutely not my style at all. I had every intention of selling them (and may sell one eventually) but the sculpt has grown on me and I am sort of seeing a character or characters developing.

    8. I recently bought a DZ Renata because I wanted the body with those thorn arms...
Before buying it I spent like a week looking and looking again at pictures of the face, trying to see if I could change my mind and like it. After so many times now I am not sure whether I like it or not! It's definitely not that bad as I thought, but I think I will get rid of it nonetheless XD.

    9. I bought a doll off a friend as she needed the money. Not really done much with her, I think if she had a better face up id fall in love with her. One of my things to do list...

    10. I think a lot of people buy a full doll just for the body, then sell the head off. It's actually a pretty good idea since sometimes secondhand bodies on the marketplace can have yellowing and such (which can make resin matching more difficult). Especially if the doll was in stock - no company wait times.

    11. I fell in love with a Shinydoll Yuli head because of the faceup. But since Shinydoll bodies almost never show up in the marketplace I ended up buying a full Shinydoll Akali doll second hand, the resin match was perfect. I can use the Akali head as a practice head, or maybe one day I will sell it.

I also bought a brand new Dollshe Hound doll so I could give its body to my Bermann whose version 1 body I am not a great fan of, in this case it was just a head swap so no floating head.

    12. As I am only collecting BJDs about 1 year now I started with YOSD size and bought some dolls in this size- later I found the Real Pukis with only 9 cm in height and found out they are my big love and just perfect for me as I love miniatures and all matches so well, I also love making clothing for them and photo-scenes. So I sold all bigger dolls now- except a Gigi from Linda Macario and will soon get also a Kaye Wiggs Pink Rallie Faun- but am unsure if I will keep them....

    13. I'd forgotten I'd done this some time back, myself. I was after a body from a company that doesn't sell them separately, and took place in a split order to get ahold of it, but no one was taking one of the two heads that went with it, so I ended up buying that one myself even though I really didn't like it at all. Luckily, it did sell quite quickly once I received everything!

    14. When DZ first came out with their (at the time) newest yosd -a series of four dolls, two girls and two boys in 2013. I fell for one of them immediately and ordered him. There was another from the series that I liked, but kept putting off getting her. Then an event was announced, so I thought I'd get the one I liked, plus one more to qualify. That left just one in the series of four that I did not have. Since I did not like his eye shape at all, I never gave owing him another thought. But, then I started thinking that I had three out of the four and someday DZ might discontinue the series as they often do... so I made the decision to get the last one, not because I liked him, but just to fill out the collection so I had all four. After getting him, I've changed my mind (love the eye shape) and am doubly happy I got him. I still have all four, and yes, DZ has discontinued them!

    15. Planning to get a Resinsoul tang even though I'm not the biggest fan of resinsoul or even the sculpt. But all in all the doll fits a character and is in my price range so it's not a big deal. It'll probably grow on me once it's here

    16. I was impatient to know what it was like to have an MSD sized doll, so I bought an in stock Resinsoul Mei off of DDE. I dislike the single-jointed body, but she was perfect to practice face-ups on and a character ended up blooming out of the process.

    17. I bought a DC Barbara because my Husband said he liked her.. Stupid :doh

    18. Yep! I bought a whole Fairyland Roke... a head-sculpt I really don't like at all... in order to swipe his oh-so-well-built muscular F65 body for one of my floating Ital heads.

The Roke head is sitting in my "spare resin" box, where he'll probably stay until I get tired of having to move him every time I want something else stored in there. At that point, I'll either give him to someone who wants him or just toss him on the Market.

    19. I bought a Doll Leaves XiXi from someone because of how cheap he was. I didn't exactly like him, but I felt like there was potential there. I bought him with the intention of redoing his face-up, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Even so, he's really grown on me. He's the perfect size for tossing in a bag and carrying around, and he can sit on an already-crowded desk while I'm working without needing much space. And with his face blank as it is now, his impish little smile is adorably devilish :)

    20. I've bought ones I hated simply because they would make good gifts for my sister. She has different tastes than me.
