Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Ever felt ripped off by a company?

Feb 27, 2013

1. Ever felt ripped off by a company? Or felt that some dolls were just ridiculously priced?
Just curious :)
I've had one experience but I don't think it was fully the companies fault so I let it go.
Once I bought an event doll from this company (which doesn't exist anymore) and this was when the company had a lot of people complaining about how some of their dolls weren't being sent in time or was taking too long.
I didn't know that and I bought the doll and waited about 4 month before I actually got my doll. You can imagine the fear I had that I'll never actually get my doll and this was back when I was just a student so money was really a big deal for me.
What made me feel disappointed when I got the doll was that the make up was so horribly done! It was uneven and I think it was done by a factory print (just like how they paint barbie dolls) so was very artificial looking. I read online and others who received the event doll had the same complaint
Anyways, I think it's mainly because the company was experimenting with some cheap factories overseas which went horribly wrong and I think they've stopped the whole process afterwards.

Getting back to the question! Did anyone feel ripped off by a company? Or felt that some dolls were unjustly priced?

2. I was accidentally charged for a pair of eyes that weren't sent with a doll.

But to be fair, I had changed my order so many times I think they were confused, and it wasn't enough money for me to stress out about it... Besides I felt bad for emailing them so much to change/check on the order. So I don't feel "ripped off" but technically they've got $13 out of me without giving me a product. I thanked them kindly for the service (since that company didn't make anything really off of BJD orders) and apologized to their rep for taking so much of their time.

3. I've posted this before, but I once got a full-set GIRL Shall instead of the Full set boy I had actually ordered.

But it worked out because I love her to bits... so yea all good :)

4. I once ordered a lingerie set from a company and expected to get a set with bra, panties, and tights (I think there may have been a fourth piece in there too but I can't remember now). The items arrived and I was surprised to see only the bra and panties, so I emailed the company. It turned out that the set only included the bra and panties, and that hadn't been made clear in the photos or description. I bought the tights separately and just chalked it up to a simple misunderstanding/miscommunication. The last time I went to the company's website I also noticed that (at least for the outfit I was looking at) they had a picture showing exactly what was included in the set on the sales page, so maybe they learned something from the experience too.

5. I bought some shoes and jeans from a company. In the picture, the jean shorts had little tears like real ripped jeans, had real demin fabric, were wrinkled and faded in all the right places. But what I got looked like this weird blue fabric, almost oxford shirt fabric, no fading, no wrinkles, the tears looked like they were done with a seam ripper and not frayed and they weren't lowrise like the picture. The seams are too big for MSD scale. I just dealt with it b/c I assumed that a foreign company might not understand my complaint and that sending them back would cost me half what I paid for them, at least. It sucked though, because I ordered cute preppy teen girl shorts and ended up with 80s mom shorts. :/

6. I haven't had any issues, but a friend of mine ordered a fullset and the doll didn't come with the outfit it was supposed to. I think it was a mistake more than anything else. I told her to email the company, because I think they would have fixed the issues for her, but she never ended up telling them the outfit wasn't there. It's too bad, because it was a really lovely dress, too.

7. Was this Dream of Doll? I'm curious, because if you ordered a 'Shall', then you were always going to get a girl. You needed to order a 'Sha' in order to get a boy.

I've felt ripped off. Usually by the resellers who pretend that they're the only ones selling an item, and then I find out that I could have bought it for half the price from another reseller. It's pretty hard trying to shop around when you don't even know who the original company is :<

8. Yep, just last month in fact! I ordered a doll head that I really liked. When I got it, I didn't really like it, but when I looked at pictures of the doll on flickr I absolutely adored it. But compared to the head I had, most of the pictures looked different. I contacted the company and they confirmed that the head had been modified by the sculptor. I was (still am) pissed because they never made an announcement about it or added pictures of the new version of the head. What's worse is that the part that they ended up modifying was my favorite part of the original sculpt. So yeah, I felt ripped off. I didn't even get the doll I wanted.

9. I've never had any instances where I felt "ripped-off". I actually think I've been treated pretty well by most of the companies I've ordered from. There have been plenty of mistakes in my orders in the past, but every company who has either sent the wrong item or missed one all together fixed the problems without any fuss. I've had long waits, but these days my average wait is four months, anything shorter makes me dance for joy, anything longer is one of the pitfalls of the hobby. I did get one LE Fullset once that had a faceup that started flaking off days after getting it. The thing is, I wanted the doll, not the faceup, and was planning on wiping it anyway, and just took that as a sign to stop being lazy and get too it.

I only ever have had one doll that I feel looked nothing like the site pictures - Dollzone Ro. I think if you look at the blank doll, and the pictures DZ has up of just the head, there are obvious differences....it looks like photos of a prototype that was resculpted before the dolls actually went up for sale. It's not horrible, and since that's what Ro looks like there's no point in saying anything to them about it (it's not like they can remake the whole mold for me!! lol) but it did take me a few days to get over it.

10. This was before Sha even existed haha. There was only three models I had ordered a (carmin??) it was the dark haired boy and they sent me a Shall. The dolls were super limited at this point so they were all sold out and could not fix. But as I mentioned it worked out.

11. Oh wow! Don't mind me then D: (I thought you were talking about a long ago purchase, but I didn't think to think that far back!)

12. I once ordered a wedding gown from Dollmore for my Model Doll Leah. It looked nice in the pictures, but in person, it really looked like they made an error in sewing it together. It was arguably avant-garde, but it looked very sloppily done. In addition, the gloves had absolutely no chance of fitting Leah's hands. I contacted Dollmore (with pictures), and they wanted me to ship it back. I decided to eat the cost because they were probably just going to send a replacement with the same exact problem anyway. It has actually put me off from buying anything from Dollmore for the past three years, but I might give them another shot soon. I love my Leah too much, and while I've been fortunate to find clothes from other places that fit her, I want to get her some nice clothes I see on Dollmore's site.

13. Not really.

I had a doll arrive in the wrong skin tone--my first doll--which was a shock. It was extremely limited, too, so they didn't know if they could replace it--but it worked out and I got the doll I wanted. It was a total roller-coaster, though. But I seemed to have got over it, 'cause I ordered from them again!

The only other time I felt I had a bit of a problem was when I got a doll that was a French Resin in a new color that turned out to yellow really quickly--as in withing MONTHS of arrival. I loved the doll, but was sad that the company didn't test the resin for a few months to find out about problems of fading... AND I didn't know it was made of French Resin (that info wasn't in the description at all). I haven't purchased from that company again, even though they have lovely dolls and they stopped making the dolls in those resin colors. The company would not replace faded dolls since they took a few months to turn... I still have the doll. She has yellowed more than any of my other dolls (and I've had dolls since '04). It's sort of the extreme of what resin-owners need to deal with, I guess. I've steered clear of French Resin and iffy new colors ever since... (I have a LOT of colored dolls, just ... am concerned and thoughtful when I do order them).

Overall--I trust the companies quite well to do the right thing. I've had a part of a doll arrive broken and the part was quickly replaced by the company. I 've had two left shoes arrive and the company sent a matching pair. It can be a bit of a bummer to have mistakes happen, but the companies have always tried their best to fix any problems. I don't hesitate to buy from companies that have good track records.

14. Well I bought a body from a company and there was a free head event on. Body arrive no head! They made me pay shipping to get the head, no head ever arrived. Will never buy that make again.

15. That sounds horrible! o_o I've mostly bought second hand so I've never had much of a fuss but I'm beginning to think about actually buying this one doll (as no one seems to be selling her) and I'm scared >_<;

16. i ordered a hoodie of alice collection, online it shoes the zipper pull being in scale but when i got it in person it is definitely not in scale! i do not really use the hoodie now. then when i ordered my illusion spirit doll, it was during an event so the face up was free but when i got her it was so terribly done i wiped it. i should not complain because it's free but it really did not look anything like the picture shown.

17. It did make me very sad I have to admit. But ive had some amaizing experience with other companies :)

18. I haven't had any bad experiences yet.

19. I bought a pair of MSD boots recently that broke when I first put them on my doll. The zipper slider on one of them snapped off and the bows on both boots came off, too. All of it is fixable but I was still upset that I would have to do any fixing at all. I have had similar things happen in the past (wrong color, size, etc.) because I buy a lot on evilbay from Chinese sellers and sometimes you get what you pay for and it's too expensive to ship it back, but I've come to take that as part of the risk. And yes, I definitely feel that some dolls are just way more expensive than they should be. I understand what goes into making them, but still some are $200 and others are $900 and sometimes I just don't see the difference. I think they should all be cheap so that I can buy more of them! ;3

20. I ordered a limited edition doll from Dollmore. When he arrived, his boots were damaged and the eyelets were falling out. He was VERY expensive doll too. And I know they knew they were sending me damaged boots because they included loafers as a 'gift' item along with the normal gifts you get for spending that much. I showed them the photos and they wanted me to pay to ship the boots back to them before they would send me a non damaged pair. And I would have to pay for the shipping back to me too. I shouldn't have to pay for a mistake they made. As a result, I never sent the boots back because that's just ridiculous.
