1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ever have more than one doll fit the 'mold'?

Sep 19, 2012

    1. I know that there are those of us out there who pick particular molds to fit certain character ideas. I do the same myself. What I would like to know is have you ever found more than one doll that fits your character? If you did, how did you choose between the two (or three or four, ect)? Were you happy with your choice or did you ultimately go back one of the other choices?

      *I looked elsewhere for this topic and couldn't find it. If it already exists just delete this*

    2. I'm in this situation right now actually. The doll in question is a fandoll rather than an original-character doll, but the idea is the same. my Ronald is a (yellowed, which annoys me) Luts Cian head on a Popodoll body. The combo was absolutely perfect for him. And then there was a little company called Rosetta-doll that released their new mold, Zio, and I took one look at the pictures and I was like "that's Ronny". I didn't have money to order one though, so I left it. Then a Zio popped up in the marketplace and I had to have him, deciding that I would try him for Ronny and whichever head would end up not being Ronny I would make into another original character because I couldn't part with either head. The Zio is currently still on its way to me, I will have to wait until he's here and I can actually put him on the body to see if he works, but I think he will, and in that case I will just consider it "upgrading to an even more perfect mold" :)

    3. Yes, I have!

      For my character, Matt, I had narrowed my choices down to Volks F-16, DoD Camine, DoD Lahoo, DoD Dream Head 9, or Luts Wintery 08. None were exactly as I saw him, but each had features that were close. I started comparing them side by side in pix and weeded out Lahoo and Camine. I found a fairly cheap Dream Head 9, so that was the determining factor!

      HOWEVER, it doesn't end there. After getting him home, i hated him. The face was cute, but the ears were too big and the resin farrrr too pink. I didn't realize from pix just how pink DoD is. So I started looking for F-16 or Wintery again, couldn't find any trades and was too broke to buy one straight out. Then my sister got in an IpleHouse Mars, that she actually just wanted the body for her floating head....OMG, that face was perfect!!! I ended up trading her the DoD head, faceup services, a pair of pants, 2 sets of eyes, and $40 worth of whatever she wanted on Alices Collections. LOL She kept saying I was offering too much, but I didn't think so. That head IS Matt.

      So in my case, not only did I start out with 5 options, I ended up realizing the PERFECT head for Matt was none of the ones I wanted, but something else entirely. The funny thing is, I had looked at Mars before for a different character. but after seeing him in person, he was SO wrong for the other guy and perfect for Matt!

    4. Yep. Only it's a bit of a strange situation. I have the absolutely perfect doll to be Tyhlian (OD Tae Vampire). That sculpt, however, is a small MSD with a proportional but small head (he wears a size 5 wig and 8mm eyes). This means he can look... odd next to his partner, Dakvir, who is a regular sized MSD. His OD body also drives me nuts in that despite hot glue sueding and wiring his legs, standing him is a challenge of the highest order.

      On the days when I get exceptionally frustrated with trying to pose him I think of buying the DollLeaves W sculpt and being done with the finicky OD legs. But I love the Tae sculpt and it's absolutely perfect for Tyh so I never follow through.

      I also still believe that the BuddyDoll Mars Tough is THE perfect sculpt to be Quinlin, but the size is wrong to be a partner to Ryzel (BBD Valentine). Quin is shelled in a JeiDoll Ashford and I'm very happy with that selection.

    5. Yup, literally just dealt with this in the last two weeks actually. I've had my Iplehouse Kamau who's the doll embodiement of my oldest OC Sarge for about a year now, and I spent a long time looking for him. But I spent even longer looking for his other half. I thought I'd found the right doll long ago, but I realised it just wasn't right. I then spent who only knows how long searching for the right doll and I found it, his perfect match Souldoll Tae.

      In march of this year I'd finally saved up enough money to buy him, but as luck would have it, by that time Souldoll had put him as not for sale for a while. Frustrating because I'd never found any other doll that even came close to it. I sat down and waited it out, and waited, and waited... And he's STILL not for sale. I'm beginning to save for my next doll now and it's beyond frustrating. I emailed Souldoll and was told they have no idea when they will be putting Tae up for sale again but they will let people know when the 'sold out' dolls on their site are being sold again. I was heartbroken, he embodied Blade so well it was unbelievable how perfect he was.

      Thankfully, I did some searching around and it turns out that Doll In Mind released a new DIM Love boy not long after my birthday by the name of Lyell. I took one look and instantly fell in love. He was just as perfect to be Blade as Tae! AND he was able to be ordered. I mmm'd and ahhh'd and debated time and time again, switching between the two and unable to choose either one. In the end however, we (as in my fiance and I who knows my OC's incredibly well) decided that while Tae is still perfect to be my boy, his face is just that little bit babyish when compared to Lyell. Blade is supposed to be 18, but something about Tae just makes him look that little bit younger, not to mention he has a slight curve to his lips that makes it appear he's smiling just a tiny bit. Lyell however looks sort of sad and pouty, Blade isn't a very happy little bunny so in the end I had to choose the Lyell sculpt.

      So basically what made me choose was the slightly older looking but still quite similar asthetics, the fact that Tae likely won't be for sale for a very long time and after debating desperately for quite some time, I've come to the conclusion that the V2 DIM body is just a little more to my tastes (not to mention just one tiny bit shorter) than the SD Double New boy body. It may end up different once I actually have him in my hands, but for now I feel that while I desperately love and want Tae, Lyell is the way to go when it comes to shelling Blade as a doll.

    6. I’m in that situation right now actually! And ugh! It is so hard to choose! I have my doll, Albin, and I want to make her boyfriend, Brannon. I’ve found THREE dolls I really, really like and I’m hoping to narrow it down with the help of Brannon’s roleplayer. I seriously don’t know how to choose and I’m afraid that I’ll pick one, begin putting him together (wig, clothes, etc.) and realize it doesn’t look right ;A;

    7. Yep, I'm going through this with a series of dolls I want. Some I've found the same character in multiple sizes, others I've found several 'expressions' of the same character, but none are close enough to use all of them. A few I'm not sure which character it works better for, but I definitely like it for one or the other.

    8. Some of my dolls have gone through quite a few different shells before I found the right doll or body/head combo for them.
