1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Finding the original artist?

Jan 9, 2013

    1. I've noticed recently a user on dA who has been taking other artist's images off flickr (particularly of BJDs) and claiming them as their own - some of them either myself or other users have managed to find the original artist and notify them (dA won't allow people who don't own the originals to report dA users for art theft), but others don't seem to have been.

So my question is, how do you find the original artist/owner of a BJD? Even on images where I can identify the sculpt/s in the image, it is still almost impossible to find the original artist of the image :S I really want to find the original artists so that they can report the user, so any advice would be great!

    2. Maybe setting up a thread here on DoA would notify the original artist ? Their friends might be able to recognize their works and help identify them.

Its really hard to identify the original artist based on their work unless they leave a signature or something. Thats why i tell other artists to leave their signature/names on all the work they put on the internet.

    3. Reverse image searching works wonders. All you have to do is save the image on your computer, and open the folder. Then go to google images and drag the image into the search bar. It'll show you other places the image was posted. Hope that helps. I'm not sure if you'll be able to find images that were posted on DoA though, since it's member-view only, but it doesn't hurt to try.

    4. ...I didn't even know you could do that! That really helps, now I should be able to find it :D Thanks so much!

    5. No Problem! :) I'm glad I could help. I wouldn't have known about that if it wasn't for tumblr. People in the Hetalia fandom on tumblr especially are very picky about tagging and sourcing things properly, so if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have learned that neat little trick.

    6. The idea of starting a thread about it is good, too, I think. People here should be able to recognize their friends' and their own dolls pretty easily...

Doll photos are not as easy to identify as artwork... I know that lots of people keep and eye out for artwork by the people they enjoy and will tell them when they spot thefts of the artwork. Not so easy with doll photos. But DoA is a good central place for reaching doll owners who may be able to help in identifying such photos.
