1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

For your Face-Ups, do you go to one artist or pick and choose?

Sep 23, 2010

    1. Yeah, seriously.
I for one, never go to the same artist for a face-up/blushing of the same doll.
I feel that my doll, well my first anyway, has a "hidden" personally. Meaning I want her to look different each time she changes face-ups.
Plus I thinks it's hartbreaking for the artist to wipe a hard work up-ing they did, ya'know?

      Some I like
      Some I don't
But I feel this grows the bond between my and her!

But enough of that. My main question is, do you go back to one artist for all your face-ups, or randomly chose based on work.

And for the artists, have you had repeating customers, and how did that make you feel?

    2. I like all of my dolls to have a similarity between them, so I do normally go to the same artist if I found their style fits what I'm looking for. Sometimes it can be a bit of trial and error, too. Like the artist's style looks like what I want, but when the head comes back it's not as I had hoped, even though I know the artist is capable of that style. In that case, I'd look for another artist and hope they can better do the face-up I had in mind.

-Edit- That being said, I've never sent the same head back to an artist for them to try again or try something new on the same head. But if I ever did, I'd wipe it myself first before sending it. Not only does it save them time from not having to do it, but also like you said, they won't have to wipe away their own work.

    3. Well, each artist has his/ her own style, so it really depends on how I want my doll to look. I've used one artist a few times because I liked her style and wanted those particular dolls to have her look. But then there are other artists that I've only used once because I want their style for only one particular doll. So I guess I choose an artist based on their body of work. I'd use the same artist to try something new on one of my dolls but I'd wipe the face first.

    4. I have about three or four artists whose work I adore and if I could get all my dolls painted by them I would. If I were to get any of my dolls with artist faceups repainted my first choice would be to go back to that same artist. In that instance I wouldn't necessarily want an identical retread of the existing faceup, but something similar and updated to go with the artist's current work. Many artists feel that they improve over time and will want to do a 'new' version of a years-old faceup for a return customer, something that will better reflect their current skill level than an older work.

    5. So far I don't have my dolls yet, but I have them all planned out and know exactly what I am doing with them... I have 6 planned. 2 are coming with default faceups, and from what I can tell those will be just fine for them (with a minor tweak to one that I will do myself). One is being hand done by the artist selling the dolls, he's a limited edition, and will stay the way he is. The other three, I am getting the same artist to do all of them. She's amazing, I've seen her work countless times, and she's one of the only ones I'd trust to do it. So, I guess in the long run, yes I do go to the same artist.

    6. Who I go to for a faceup depends on what I want for the doll. Generally I look for an artist who has a good grasp of what I want for that doll, and examples of something similar that I like. That said, once I have a relationship with an artist and know they're reliable and that I like their work in person as well as in photos, I'm more likely to commission them again.

    7. Well I have my one friend whos a artist on doa do alot of my faceups. But only the faceups i feel I want done by her. I love her work but I want certain other peoples work also. It depends on the doll and what i want done. I usually get people i feel i can communicate with, love there work, and is usually more used to doing the style, color etc i want.

    8. For my girl, and future ones, I go to my girl Phantasmagoria. As of yet I haven't gone to any other artist, though I've seen so many awesome ones on DoA! Honestly I do love her work, not just because she's my cousin ヽ(;´ω`)ノ, and I think she's setting up a face-up shop pretty soon!

    9. I go to the same 3 or 4 artists. Once I find someone I love, I don't like to go to anyone else. Unfortunately, several of the artists I love have retired, so I've had to look for new ones.
