Getting both genders from a single company?

Aug 8, 2014

    1. So I am curious. Am I the only one who feels I must have a boy and a girl from any company and size I buy from. For example, I have an IslandDoll Cassandra and while I do love the sculpt it is not the only reason that I want an IslandDoll Kevin. I guess one reason is I am not limited by gender so any clothes I fall in love with I can get. I hope one day to get from Blue Fairy. I just - they have such sweet expressions and I love full sets and I love theirs - and I picked a boy and a girl I want.

    2. Well for me , I seem to have an attraction towards male molds , they are just very diverse in the sense of body proportions and ways you can style them . I also like girl sculpts but I seem to be a lot more picky about those . It would somehow be easier for me to assign a male doll the female gender for some reason , but I don't quite understand why.

    3. From any company? No. But I do like having boys and girls in every size I collect. So I need a girl pukifee sized doll some day.

    4. I have only boys and have no urge to get a girl at all. I have enough unexpected romance with this bunch so I don't need girls for that.

    5. For companies like Bluefairy, this would seem a little redundant seeing as their (head) sculpts are a little genderless. (I think it's easy to change their gender at any time).
But it does make me struggle on whether or not I should opt for the boy or girl version! :sweat Ideally, it would be easier to just get both, but alas, money doesn't grow on trees!

    6. I have absolutely no desire to do this, personally. There's plenty of cases where I have only one doll from a given company, and that's all I want, because that's what fits with my doll plans. If I want more than one from a company, it's not out of some obsessive need to have some kind of balance from them, but because more than one fits with what I want! That doesn't mean there aren't others I appreciate--there's plenty of lovely sculpts from some of them, but I'm sticking with one single doll regardless. I'm already far, far beyond the "one, maybe two" dolls I originally planned to get, I don't need anything else inflating the number.

    7. ME-ME-ME! I do this!

I don't HAVE to do that... but in a lot of instances, I end up doing that!

It's weird because I really like boy dolls, so my very first doll was an CP Delf Elf El (m). A month later, I bought a CP Delf Elf Lishe (f).

Then I bought a CP Delf Elf Yder (m) and then a Juri '05 (f).

The next doll was a Volks Shirou One-Off (m). And I didn't buy her, but a Volks Cyndy2 arrived next (f), a surprise gift from a friend (so the universe seems to be conspiring in the M/F/SameCompany thing!)

The next dolls were a female, then male Bambicrony Elf Kumi and Pepe! (The sculpts are actually genderless, but one clearly a female and the other a male--as I style them!!! I even requested an Artist/Company faceup that was a bit more scowling for the boy so he wouldn't look as girly!!! I don't care at all that the head-sculpts and even body sculpts were genderless or more usually female!)

Then I bought a Tinybear Bracken (m)... not next, but later, I bought a Tinybear Moona (f).

That was most all my dolls from 2004 to 2007 -- 10 dolls--all male/female from the same company!

After that, Pattern is broken! I buy a lot of males, many from the same company (so I still like to have PAIRS, or maybe 3 or 4 dolls from the same company, but not just m/f!!!). Then I bought some female pairs. Then some singles!!!

2012, I bought an Iplehouse EID Carina (f) to go with my Iplehouse EID Tedros (m)... so I still sometimes do this. :D

    8. Your house must be like the Noah's Ark of dolls...

    9. I like guy dolls best. For me its easier to dress a guy than a girl doll. I am also picky about choosing a girl. Like what others have posted.

    10. Uhm… It just happens by accident.. but now you mention it.. :sweat
A month ago I bought a B&G Sharon.. I already had a B&G Hera. Now I look at my wishlist and it has two dolls from Doll Chateau… Also a boy and a girl. (Elizabeth and Matthew.. okay they're not human X3 especially not Elizabeth. But they're a boy and a girl. So it counts, no?)

    11. Normally....I don't feel the need to buy both. Yet....I DID feel the need to buy both Louis and Eleanor from IslandDoll because of Louis Tomlinson and Eleanor Calder. >.>

    12. Eh, I don't think I've ever felt this way. I don't feel a need to have an even amount of boys and girls from the same company and same size. I don't think I need an even ratio. Certainly don't have one right now. I got 2 girls and that's it. :P I wouldn't feel right just getting two boys to even things out. I probably wouldn't care about them that much. x3 I just get the dolls I know I will love and care for and don't get ones that I just want "on a hunch". :3

    13. my dolls makes a girl scout team and no boys are ever allowed in....no i'm joking but i have zero interest in the boy molds. if i have gender options its always a girl. if i dont and i fall in love witha boy mold??i dont know....will probably try to make or mod a girl out of him.

    14. I'm not 100% like this - I'm more like the poster who said having a boy and a girl in every size was more important than boy and girl from same company. Given most of my dolls are from Luts, mold is more important to me then company. If I matched by company AND size, I'd have to get a male Dollmore Kid, female Dream of Child, I don't even know what from Mythdoll (we think my 'girl' started life as a boy mold from that company), plus a female Puki, a male Honey Delf, and two female Minifees. Typing all that out was kinda scary, actually....

    15. No, mostly not, although I do like to pair up my dolls, most of my adult girls are paired with other company males. The males from the companies the gals came form looked too much like brothers. ( I grew up with enough brothers myself to not need sibs for my dolls.)

    16. This is interesting question since I am debating if my boy doll needs a girlfriend from different company or same company but different line.

    17. I have a strong preference for boys, so I don't feel the urge to buy females from the same company unless I really, really want them in the first place. It would be easier to pair them, but I don't have an interest in pairing all of my dolls so it's not something I necessarily consider. I would rather buy more boys anyway haha :)

    18. I used to want to do that, when I first started doll shopping--which was why my kid got two Bobobies instead of one--I couldn't bear for the girl to be left alone, so she came home with a brother :D In that case, it turned out to be perfect. Nowadays, though, when I look for dolls, I try to think of what dolls will model clothes best, which sculpts I really like, and yes, I still like pairing one doll with another (already considering companions and siblings for the Batchix boy I bought, lol), but that isn't at the top of my list anymore. I truly believe though, that buying a boy and a girl from the same company
      a) gives you two dolls of different genders to dress and spoil (and because the clothing market for both genders are huge, their wardrobes have pretty much limitless options)
      b) gives you the option to see which one you like best if you end up not wanting to keep them both,
and c) gives your doll an instant companion if you don't like to see them arrive alone, and presents many opportunities for fantastic photoshoots :p

Unfortunately, because my wallet is so small and my list of wanted dolls is so huge, I'd never be able to buy both sexes from all the companies I love anyway :p But if you love to do that, go for it. After all, twice the amount of impending arrivals = twice the anticipation :D

    19. Way back in the day I used to want a boy and girl pair for each size... And most of those pairs I used to look at were dolls from the same companies (but that's mostly because I only knew of 3 bjd websites XD). Eventually I realised that I like girl dolls better. I still have a few boys, but I've never felt the need to 'even' the genders out, because male dolls just don't interest me as much.
That being said, I think all my current doll "couples" share parent companies. Huh, Never thought about that before! XD

    20. Thanks for the interesting feedbacks! I showed some of the pictures of a boy and a girl dolls I am interested to my coworkers. They could not believe that dolls can be that hyper "realistic." Anyway, one of my coworkers said my dolls would be having babies together.(^_-)
