It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Getting more used to accidents?

Sep 18, 2007

    1. Does anyone else find, as they own their dolls for longer and longer, that they're getting less paranoid about accidents?

Case in point: I was horsing around with LadyLenneth and her husband last night, and as I was handing him a Coke, I brushed past my Volks MSD who was sitting on the coffee table...she promptly faceplanted the carpet.

Two months ago my reaction probably would have been to shriek and freak out. Last night, it was simply, "Oh, Irian..." as I picked her up and made sure her nose was still intact. "Thank you Volks for making such good resin," I said, and sat her way back on the couch where she'd be safe.

My Dream of Doll Yen girl has this bad habit of falling backwards onto hard surfaces if you hold her...she just goes *droop* and her head hits the table you're sitting next to. This also no longer freaks me out...I just tell her to sit up, goshdarnit.

Anyone else becoming inured to accidents and believing in resin strength?

    2. I don't even freak out anymore when something actually breaks. I have horrible luck with fingers, they don't have to fall from a great height, just a face plant at the right angle and they loose a finger (has happened 3 times)
and I don't even bother to react anymore.. I just right them and go find some glue for the offending digit.

You realise they're hardy little things and it's not the end of the world.

    3. Unfortunately, no. :( They are breakable. And I consider it lucky when there is a fall and they are unscathed.

    4. im scared of accidents, but i suppose i'lll get used to it.

    5. I'm still in the terrified-of-breaking-my-baby phase. I think I would cry if anything went wrong and I'm particularly paranoid about her fingers - such fragile little things! - and her pierced earlobes.

Me: *wraps a protesting Heavenlea in bubble wrap*
Heavenlea: Jeez, Mama, get a grip!

    6. Yeah. My my SaFi's ear was broken in transit by the postal service, I almost had a meltdown. When my cat bit my Ani hybrid's foot, I was huffy for about a half an hour. When a wig stained by SaFi's head, I was tense for like five minutes, then sighed and got over it.

It's not that I trust they won't get messed up, I'm just getting used to it happening.

    7. I still get that moment of panic when my girl decides she really wants to take a swan dive off the end table onto the carpet. But largely, I know she's going to be okay ( I still check her nose though >.>;; )

    8. Rather than getting more used to accidents, I've found myself more used to handling the dolls. There simply...aren't accidents. I know how to move them, where to sit them. I know their weights and limitations.

However, any near accident even still flips me out. :)

    9. Same here...

I may be a lot more comfortable taking them apart and such now, but I've never gotten any less concerned or paranoid about accidents. I'm still just as worried about scratches, face-up damage or breakage every time one of the takes a fall or topples over.

    10. ..because they are worth so much i always end up making some unintelligible noises of panic...especially if they fall or get near children o_o i'm really scared of ink stains which used to happen alot until i locked my dolls away..

    11. For many doll companies, it is easy to be paranoid. For example, if my CP elves were to take a nose dive.. I'd panic. If my Volks were.. I just kind of roll my eyes.

    12. My experience is that they are all equally vulnerable; the same with chipped face-ups and sealer. I suppose those of us who have had a terrible break may feel a bit differently about it....

      Be careful out there! ;)

    13. A week ago at my Aunt's house Riku almost fell off the table, I caught him with one hand and sat him back up and continued talking like it didn't happen. After owning him for five moths now, I'm perfectly used to his random jumping, slapping, not standing, and head butting. I guess learning ~how~ to move them so they don't fall is the key factor.. but then again, sometimes they just do fall. It's part of owning a BJD.

One thing is for sure, my reflexes have never been better.

    14. Luckily I haven't has too many accidents, and the one that did was my fault totally...I stood Steffanya {soom kyrie} on my table unaided..and turned my back...nose dive....broke a finger and one of long nails I sculpted...she still has the broken finger that is glued on, and I'll eventually get a new hand.. I have had dolls fall because I have a cat that has a passion for mohair wigs..and plucks them off their heads..I actually went in my bedroom once and one was teetering on her stand...she looked like a teeter-totter..!!! and her mohair wig was on the floor!
my reflexes have gotten faster too!!

    15. I haven't had many accidents, but I'm not very paranoid about them. If something happens I know it can be fixed.

And if it's totally unfixable, I know I can replace the piece. But that's different for everyone. If my girl where to take a nise dive and break her nose, I could get her a new head. I'm attached to my character, not the resin. =D

Though, I think I'll be more paranoid when I get my boy all the way together, as he is a Migidoll Ryu and they're much harder to get ahold of then Elfdoll Lydia!

    16. I'm the opposite, actually. The longer I have them the more I freak out. Just the other day when I restrung my School C I took a TEENY TINY chip out of his waist joint, in a place where you can't even tell there's a chip unless you had seen it happen, and I nearly had a nervous breakdown. :( Also, when I was fiddling with my currently headless Yen a couple weeks ago, just looking at all the damage I'd done over the years made me almost start crying. He's covered in chips and nicks from restringing and I couldn't believe I'd ever been that careless. Nothing like that used to bother me, but nowadays I just panic over every tiny thing. ><

    17. I have to agree with this, I've grown to handling my dolls nicely like that.. They're set somewhere safe, in poses that won't topple over - and I provide no opportunity for something extraordinary to happen.

    18. I quickly became indifferent to accidents when my Lati M took a tumble & his headcap shot off. After a moment of panic, I picked him up, dug out the headcap & checked over every detail. Not a thing wrong. Since then I've had numerous tumbles from attempting to get the kids to stand on my uneven floor & even a few nose dives into the grass. These no longer panic me. Sure, the kids are breakable but they're stronger than you might think. I'm still very careful around hard surfaces & great heights though.
