Has your size preferance gone from big to tinies since you began or is tiny your pref

May 22, 2014

1. I accidently found bjd dolls as my hobby was 1/12 scale and 1/6 scale miniatures, I didn't understand the size difference or that lati white or yellow were different sizes lol.
I am way to impatient to order from the companies so scoured flikr and Ebay for latis. I found a Lati yellow Miel and waited and waited,(about four days haha) and when she came her lati box was huge! My heart sank! I thought omg I've ordered one of those old porcelain dolls haha.
Although she was 16cm Id expected her to be about 9/10, once I made her my own I fell in love and found another :) But then I bought a pukipuki ante from Flikr! Once id sent her for a face up I was in love :D she was the size I wanted!
Buutt I do love the unoas haha,,,how about you?

2. I started with MSD, I felt like anything smaller wasn't worth the money, I might as well get a Barbie or other small doll, but SD was too big to handle. I had never seen a BJD in person until my first boy arrived.

Now, I've owned everything from 8cm pet dolls to 72cm boys, and I have to say my favorite is the 55-65cm range. I like the range of styles, sculpts, body types and clothing for them, and the mature looks. However, now that I've owed a few small dolls (under 30cm), I no longer feel that it's a waste of money, it's just a matter of finding the right one!

3. I prefer large dolls overall (anything over 60cm, mostly 70's) for their more mature faces. Also, because the smaller dolls kind of remind me of my childhood when I had barbie dolls. I kind of wanted to prove to my family that they weren't anything like Barbie dolls. xD I don't really like the smaller dolls since some tend to have huge eyes. Though, I'd never though I'd want a Littlefee. The faces are so cute, I can't help but want one! > A <

4. I'm fairly new to the hobby. Only been in it two years. I started with MSD's but quickly slid into Yo-SD and even smaller. I really like the tinies but I think the MSD's will always have a special place in my heart since that was my first kind of doll. Don't get me wrong, I have an extensive wishlist of tinies, still. Littlefee and Latiwhites/yellows being at the top. They are so darn cute! XD

5. The larger dolls were what got me interested in BJDs, but I don't have an SD yet. I think I make decisions based more on sculpts I like than the size. I ended up falling in love with a tiny (SleepingElf's BonBon) while I was reading the forums years ago, and that was my only one for several years. Then I got an MSD, and more recently a Yo-SD. And I want to make sure that the SD I finally get is one I'll definitely love, because of the cost and the space she'll require. I didn't expect to have Pukis and Latis on my wishlist either, because I liked more mature looking dolls, but I finally gave in to their cuteness.

6. I really thought I'd be a big fan of the SD13-SD17 size, and I do love them a lot but I find myself really enjoying the MSD size the most. It's such a good size, not too big but still has a really nice weight, and with the more mature sculpts becoming more popular, it's easy to have that satisfying size while still having the SD appearance.
I also really love Yo-SDs since they're just so cute and they can go with a bunch of my Re-Ment figures. So it seems like the SD size has actually been bumped to my third favourite size. :sweat

7. I started out with bigger dolls msds and 70cm sds, but I've recently been really interested in slim/mature tinies like planetdoll minis and BBB 27cm dolls.

I still love my large dolls, but I think part of the reason I'm really into smaller dolls is they fit into my tiny apartment better.

8. I started with a SD17 (just over 70cm) . my main reason for getting a bigger doll is that I wanted to make clothes.
I had already got into Momoko dolls (Barbie size) but found I never got round to sewing for them, and blamed it on the size challenge (too small for vety detailed work). So I decided to go for a "nice sculpt in a nice sewing size" (that was the reasoning behind it anyway)

What happened however, as I got more sizes, was of course quite different, I found that I am still not sewing. But taking a LOT of photos.
And i found that, practically, it is so easy to find accessories for 1/12th and 1/6th. And very hard to find them for larger 1/3rd.
Transport of tinies is also a lot easier. in fact I pretty much always have a RealPuki with me and itbis so goid to be able to take them out any time and not miss too many photo opportunities :)
And I also find that finding a suitable background for photos, taking them out, etc., etc. is so much easier with tinies.

Given infinite spare time, I probably would use my big boy a lit more ♥
but whilst life is a bit mad (work, kids, family) it's tinies all the way.

9. My first doll was a SD and I have tried the smaller YOSD and MSD but I always go back to the SD size. I thinks it because I find it easier to make clothes for them.
I would love a 70cm boy as my tallest at present is 62cm.

10. I did! I started with a limhwa half elf and a msd from Volks. Then I had some tinies but nothing stays for good. Now Im going to have a tiny again and she will stay!

11. Actually I've more or less done the opposite. My first doll was a 60cm doll who to be honest seemed too big at the time, then I got a couple MSD sized girls and for a long time I felt they were the perfect size. Then I found a sculpt I was really in love with in a 50-60cm girl, and once I got her, well, I'm done for now. I'll be collecting the larger ones now along with my MSDs. I do have one YoSD size doll, and a Brownie who works well in my dollhouses, but I haven't done much with them since I built the SD size room box. I imagine though that I will get back to them again once I get back to finishing my 1/12th-ish scale dollhouse rehab.

12. I do have dolls ranging from 11cm to 62cm. I started with the large doll, with my first one being a 60cm Obitsu Haruka. I do know now that the 60cm size is much too large for me to really handle, and the resin ones are too heavy ^^;
While I do still have large dolls (three Obitsus and a DZ Cloud), I have certainly switched down to the tiny size with a few minis thrown into the mix. I have the fun task of finding the more mature tinies in the 1/6 scale - its possible!

13. I've always preferred larger, 1/3-scale dolls... but the itty-bitty 1/12-scale Micros really are adorable, too.

For all my love of the "big guys", I do have a trio of tiny dolls here (a Banji, and a ludicrously small pair of Dream High dolls-). I built a shadowbox dollhouse for them.

14. My BJD journey started with 2 SDs (DDdy and AoD). I thought MSDs were too small...until I got one. They became my favorite size. I thought tinies were too small...until I got one lol. Even got a 1/12. Then I decided I needed a 65-70cm doll as it was the only "standard" size I didnt have. Now they're my favorites. But tinies were never my favorites. I like my little ones, but mostly they'e just cute little things and nothing more. My MSDs, SDs and 70s I do more with and are more than just cute little dolls.

15. I started with SD 60cm range and then slowly acquired MSD and a few tinies but never really bonded with them. Currently two MSD's (Batchix Machina) and two tinies (Unidoll Cupi and LumeDoll IO Moon) are the only ones that have stood the test of time. My SD's are multiplying and are my absolute favourite size.

16. I started with a pukifee Mio I still own her she is just too adorable to sell!:XD: But I have purchased a minifee Ante Moe-line. I have had the urge to get a bigger dolly and I've played with bigger dollies before and just fell in love!:aheartbea So I must say i went from tinies to bigger dollies!:)

17. In 2004 when I started out, there were no tinies! :D

Mostly large dolls. I have tinies now, but I still like the large dolls (although not super-large!). I like the more mature dolls, so large is cool (although they do take up space). I also like very elaborate outfits, so large is good for that, too.

18. I started with an MSD, but she didn't work for me. I then got a pukifee and pukipuki because they were cute, but they just didn't work for me. Then I got an SD and I'm in love. 58 - 60cm girls are perfect for me, while I am planning on getting two minifees this size is the size I will otherwise be collecting in.

19. I always want the bigger ones. Always...that is, until I saw a 1/4 that I needed. lol. She's on her way. Doll Leaves Amara. I will probably get one more 1/4 and another 1/3 and then I will be finished.. unless I hit the lotto...

... then I am going to buy every doll from Ringdoll and Iplehouse lol.

20. I've always been a big fan of larger dolls. I tried a tiny once (a Pipos) and he was adorable, but I just didn't spend as much time with him or enjoy him nearly as much as my SDs, so I sold him. I am drawn more to mature dolls, and I like the larger size. So, I started with big dolls, and still have big dolls :)
