1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How do you feel about ABS plastic vs resin?

Sep 30, 2013

    1. I was wondering. How would you feel about someone that owns an ABS plastic doll, rather than a resin doll? Would you treat them any differently, or still treat them like you treat others whom own resin? I don't see a problem in owning the different types of dolls.

I mean I love the way hujoo freya is a cat humanoid. Though I also love Dika doll Rena (elf). One is ABS plastic and the other resin.

    2. Hi! unfortunately the ABS plastic Freya & Freyr are off topic for DoA, the Junky spot forum and Dollieh Sanctuary are good forums to discuss them :)

    3. okay sorry didn't know.

    4. I believe that Freya and Freyr are off-topic for DoA because they are made of ABS plastic, instead of resin. (list of off-topic dolls)

You might try looking for more information on the JunkySpot forum.

If it helps any, a couple people in my local group have them, and they really like them. I think they're really cute, personally. If they ever came out with a closed-eyed model, I would probably buy one. (I have a very particular project in mind, which requires a closed-eyed cat.)

    5. Thank you for the link. I didn't know they were off-topic dolls. Thanks for informing me.

    6. The Mods will probably just lock the thread, instead of deleting it. Other members might have the same question you did and this would help them. ^_^

It's not a big deal. Happens all the time.

    7. I changed the topic. because I am curious about what people will say about Resin and ABS plastic.

    8. People have all kinds of dolls, I don't see why you'd treat them differently. So what if some like Barbies? Or Monster High? Or Blythes? I certainly have a ton of dolls that are off-topic on DoA, and I assume everyone is like that. Why should we treat people differently??? It makes no sense to me.

    9. My interest initially starts with plastic dolls. I had so many barbies as a child. In my late teens I discovered AZONE International and Obitsu, some of which I still have. The absolute dearest doll to me is a Volks Century Model Gigi, based on Little Bo Peep and she's not resin either. But I wish she was! I much prefer handling resin over plastic. I also prefer stringing instead of an internal skeletal.

I definitely don't judge people for their taste in dolls.
Dollfie Dreams aren't resin and they're extremely popular and in some cases, much more expensive with regards to the collaboration models.

    10. I though resin was a really fancy way of calling really hard plastic Oo

    11. Hi, there is a link in my signature to a forum that allows discussion of Freya and Freyr! :)

    12. I have a Hujoo Berry, who was my first doll, even if she is off-topic, then bought my Island Amy (now named Katie), who is resin.
Out of the two, I tend to play with Katie more, but that is more because she has a wig, which my Berry doesn't as of the moment, plus Katie is easier to handle and pose. The ABS doesn't bother me, in fact, Berry is played with more by my sons as I know she's not going to break, so I hardly get a look in!
I also have gained quite a few Monster High dolls and two of the spin off dolls Ever After High which are played with every so often.

    13. ABS plastic dolls are off-topic for the forum, so this thread is off-topic. Only dolls made of polyurethane resin or similar (French resin, Environmental resin...) are on-topic for Den of Angels with exceptions made for Grandfathered sculpts in vinyl, Volks Dollfie Dream and larger Obitsu. Please remember off-topic dolls cannot be discussed or pictured on the forum.

There's nothing wrong with ABS plastic as a medium and there are many lovely and well-crafted dolls made from ABS, they're just not the focus of this particular forum. :)
