How do you feel about albino dolls?

Feb 4, 2013

    1. I bought a Soom Lazule (Super Gem) and I've turned him into a really pretty albino. I have a white wig for him, pink eyes w/ red pupils, and I plan on having his eyebrows changed up a bit so they're white. I already love him to bits and I think he's beautiful.

What do you guys think about him? What about other albino dolls?

    2. I think they're very lovely. :3 Actually reading this post has given me an idea for an albino of my own, I hope to see photos of your albino soon!

    3. That sounds really cool! Please post photos. I have 2 white dolls, and I might try this too.

    4. I am a fan-- especially when people put research into it, since I consider the genetic condition to be an interesting one (I research random topics for fun, though, so...)

My white skin boy is not a realistically portrayed albino... more like an albino rabbit in human form, since he has red eyes instead of pale blue or violet. But I love seeing people portray different conditions and disabilities, and I think white dolls are gorgeous whatever the story behind them.

    5. I have two dolls (of the same character at different ages) with albinism (as part of Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome, but the only effect that has on the doll versions is that they're painted to look sickly). I definitely tried to go the realistic route~! They've got pinky-white skin, white-blond hair, and white/pale blond eyelashes and eyebrows. The eyes were a challenge. I ended up getting some custom Mystic urethane eyes for them. They're pale blue with pink veins and deep red pupils to mimic the translucent iris.

And a close up of their awesome eyes: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v78/Shoujiwolf/CustomY2Shallowpink_RaspberryPupil1_zpsf2250b5f.jpg

    6. I love Albino dolls, and I also agree with Anneko, extra loooove when you research Albinism.
I actually plan on having an Albino doll someday
      somedaaaaay

      Safira;;
you're dolls are really pretty. </333

    7. I plan on getting an Albino doll.
I've had albino hamsters, and currently own an Albino gecko (who I'm breeding next year for more albino babies :D), as well as planning on getting an Albino Skunk when I move out.

I'm obsessed with Albinism in animals, and want to recreate it in doll form!

    8. Safira, those eyes blow my mind. O_O They're incredible!

    9. I think albino dolls are beautiful! I love that people research into them and I love all of the backstory people give them :)

    10. I am a huge albino fan! People, rats, rabbits, snakes ect. I just love how they look, I use to have an albino ferret and albino rat, the rat use to ride around on the ferret and for some reason people thought the rat was the ferrets baby haha those eyes are amazing!

    11. I just Love it, when well portrait, I really like this kind of expression in the doll world.

    12. I own ( this guy )... and while Sjhan (a Dreaming Shiwoo and the resin avatar of my favorite Talislanta tabletop RPG character) actually doesn't look much like a real human with albinism, he does fit the general conventions of a fictional one with his pale resin, white hair and red eyes.

I like that look for him, over-all. It suits the mental image I've always had of the "original" RPG version of the character more than a completely realistic albino look would.

    13. I feel that as long as its done appropriately there's no problem. My issue comes when people label their dolls/things in general "albino" when in reality they're not at all... :P

I personally enjoy ultra-amelanistic coloration, but i think it would be incredibly neat if someone had a leucistic doll.. ^ w ^
I spent several hours one day compiling a list of various color disorders on my tumblr if anyone's interested!

    14. My soon to come home HDF Brownie is going to be an albino~ c: Personally I greatly enjoy albino dolls and always admire other people's~ The lack of melanin is quite visually stunning in my opinion.

    15. Lina, my Minifee Chloe, is somewhat albinoish. She has very light blond or white hair, white eyelashes and pink eyes, but she may wear blue eyes, soon. (I'm still trying things out.)
She has the normal skin, though, and not white. I think normal skin is light enough, especially when compared to real human skin. (And I do have quite light skin...)

I think it is important to try to make an albino doll look as realistic as possible when it comes to the details. (But I also think that "fantasy albino" dolls with animal-like red eyes look great, too!)

    16. Interesting coloring, for sure. Blue eyes white hair is an idea of mine, but that doesn't have to be strictly albino.

    17. I've never been fond of people using real conditions as Magical Mary Sue Gimmicks, perpetuating stereotypes, but if you have a character who happens to have Albinism, fine then. Treat it as you would anything real people actually live with- With sensitivity, and not as a crutch to make the doll More Unique or Mystical.

    18. I love white hair and red eyes in general, so albino dolls are definitely a look that I love. :)

    19. Oooh, Safira, that is absolutely stunning!

Man... I need to get eyes like that... If I ever shell my realistic albino librarian character, those are going to be a must. (For Pete, it's fine if he's more bunny-like/fantasy/cartoonish in appearance... when I used to write stories about him, it was with realistic depictions of his UV sensitivity/photophobia, but in doll form he's so stylized anyway just because of his sculpt that I don't worry about that.)

I would also love to see leucism used in doll/character design more (or pseudo-melanism, I guess, for the opposite route... Come to think of it, I've seen albino dolls, some researched and some purely fantasy, but I've never seen a melanistic doll!)-- I've been fascinated by all sorts of pigment disorders, and from purely a design standpoint, leucism could make for some really interesting looks.

    20. One of my dolls has snowskin and I just happened to really like white hair on her. Never even thought of the albino similarities. She has deeper blue eyes though, so that's where the similarities end.
But she's dressed in nearly all white as well. Just thought all the similar features without me even thinking about it was interesting.

I even have some unusual white/pink eyes, but she'll stick with her blues for now. She doesn't have a backstory at all, much less one that would explain being albino. And as someone else stated, I certainly wouldn't want her to have that look just because.
