How is everyone doing with their yearly doll resolutions/ plans?

Nov 15, 2022

    1. My resolution for this year was to maintain my collection small that means 10 or less dolls for me; so far I have 5 dolls. This year was a challenge to keep my resolution since a lot of companies released a lot great dolls.

    2. Well I didn't have any resolutions for this year since I started becoming interested in bjds again around the end of this year.

Next year I hope I can have all my doll parts to shell my oc into, if not at least I hope I can have the head since I heard the head I want should be releasing this month or more likely the next though.

    3. Well, I had planned to only buy the Luts centaur this year, but I'm two dolls past that, so I guess I failed.
Next year is NO NEW DOLLS; FINISH FACEUPS resolution, let's see how that goes. :XD:

    4. So I looked back at my post from last December in the 2022 resolutions thread to see how I did.
      1. Naming my dolls: I had named a couple more over the course of the year, but looking at my resolutions reminded me that I still had a lot of nameless dolls, so I went on a deep dive into name meanings and lists and generators this evening! Now most of them are named and it feels very nice.
      2. Face-ups: Ha, no. I finally sprayed sealant last week, then promptly realized I had used the wrong kind. The correct one should be in this week.
      3. Body for the floating head: No, and I’m not totally sure I’m keeping him anyways.
      4. Diorama for the mature tiny: I decided against doing this, but I’m considering it again lately.
      5. Being more intentional with doll purchases and work on “completing” dolls: Ehhhhh. I did okay, but I think I was mostly kept in line by my financial situation being much tighter than last year. I did buy a lot of new clothes over the course of the year and am happy with progress I’m making on them, but most of the crew still needs stuff.

    5. Promised my Cyborg girl I'd finally send her to get a dye job/face up.... that hasn't happened yet. But I bought 4 new dolls :sweat

    6. I want to sell some dolls but I'm too lazy to do it. So... I guess I faiĺed.

    7. I've given up making reolutions as they never last lomng - which means I'm right on track as far as dolly resolutions!!

I really need to curb the new-dolly spending, however, as there is a distinct lack of space resulting in my latest hybrids (on topic bodies/off topic heads) ending up sitting in front of books on the bookcases in my sewing room, long with last year's Christmas doll from my husband (Kaye Wiggs Izzy) and some non-BJD dolls. I need to concentrate of geytign together the wardrobes I want for the dolls I have.

    8. Well…it’s rather a mixed bag for me.:sweat I always take part in the yearly threads. It’s fun to daydream and plan going into a new year, and it’s a wonderful way to set goals for getting things done. I always keep an eye on my initial post, updating it as the year grinds on, to keep me on track. This year I was able to get every project done, pay off every ongoing layaway, and made way more pieces for my dolls’ wardrobes than I even dreamed of accomplishing at the beginning of 2022.:thumbup So that part was a resounding success. Where I failed was in not adding any new dolls.:doh I swear I try my best to set this goal every single year, but by the end of it I find myself locked into yet more layaways leading into the new year. I joined this hobby in 2006 and since then, I’ve slowly added roughly 3 dolls per year…and if you do the math, that really adds up! I know I should stop, but my imagination comes up with a fun new character my heart can’t live without, and off I go again! I’m really hoping 2023 will finally be the year I can stop buying new resin…new hope springs eternal!

    10. I don't even think I made a resolution this year, aside from "spend reasonably," which is... up to interpretation for sure. I am pretty happy with how the year went overall though, and barring one last purchase I feel I am pretty set in terms of dolls themselves for now. (Famous last words.)

Next year my goals will be bodies for floating heads and getting everyone painted, whether by myself or someone else, which will certainly keep myself and my wallet busy. It feels both not ambitious and very ambitious at the same time :eusa_sile

    11. I think I've done pretty well actually. I wanted to get back into the hobby and do some maintenance on a few older dolls. I've restrung and sueded, and made a few outfits. I also sorted out a temporary body for one floating head and gave it a faceup, so now it feels more like a completed doll which I'm pretty happy about. A couple of projects I didn't get to due to cost or difficulty... So, I didn't do every single thing but I'm fine with what I did do, and the rest can go on next year's list (along with a bunch of new ideas I have).

    12. I recently came back at the beginning of the year, so I didn't make any resolutions, but I did lay out some plans I wanted to achieve, and so far I've been achieving them. I bought a wig and eyes for my SD boy finally and now he's got a faceup done and is complete. I bought his girlfriend, too, and he seems happier, lol. There's a problem with her S-hook so her head doesn't fit on her body, but I'm already rectifying that. She has outfits, and there's boots on the way. I remembered why I loved the hobby, too, and I sold off a lot of dolls I no longer wanted. I'd say in hobby terms I've been really successful.

Now if only my latest obsession for a new Resinsoul crew wouldn't replace my need to finish my SD crew, that'd be great.

    13. I have a new bjd to clothe so i want to try and get that done before the end of december or else i won't have time to do it until spring.

    14. Um....terrible? :XD:

I always start the year with the list of things I "need" at the moment, whether it's dolls, clothes, wigs, etc, and I always end up changing those plans. I am too indecisive and change up my crew too much to keep the same plans for a year.

    15. Mine was to move exclusively to 1/4 dolls in an effort to save money and have all accessories fit all my dolls. It worked inasmuch as I didn't but any other scale dolls, but it backfired in that I found it gave me more permission to buy pretty things for them and then buy 3 more 1/4 girls lol. I see my next new year's resolution will have to address this. :P

    16. Let's see which ones I can remember...

      No new dolls:

Lol, failed that by March. Impulse purchase Resinsoul Zhen. I've since added two more, and one I'd ordered at the end of last year arrived.

      Hanfu for Tian Ni:

Got that done! It's very lovely, I quite like it.

      Shoes for everyone:

I would have been able to complete this one if I didn't buy a doll that needs shoes! I have some orders in progress that have shoes, so hopefully Fiadh will have cozy feet by the end of the year. So... kind of?

      Improve sewing:

I know I specifically wanted to get around to trying a buttonhole and/or installing a zipper and have done neither. I think my construction is getting better, though, so not all is lost.

    17. I got back into the hobby literally a month ago (early October) after a very long hiatus, so I guess my 'resolution' was to take stock of the state of my doll collection, make a to-do list of incomplete tasks, and then tackle them before buying new resin or things.
I've been able to knock over all the incomplete tasks - learning how to do faceups, doing maintenance and sprucing up my current dolls, and buying a body for a floating head (who's waited 10 years to be completed!). Learning faceups and redoing two of my crew's faces was a big accomplishment and very fun.

I have some more 'maintenance/craft-type' goals to hit before the end of the year - work on that doll body which just arrived (clean, suede, wire, and blush hands/feet), figure out how to restore doll shoes that are flaking due to age, and learn how to sew simple clothing. I want to at least make a start on all these projects before the year is over.

Oh yes, and not spend anymore money on doll goods! I recently ordered a stack of clothes from LUTS for their Winter event (which was premeditated and planned), and impulse bought a whole doll (which was completely unplanned, yike). Absolutely no more spending until I get these orders in my hands. They won't come until next year, so that's a resolution for this year and next.

    18. It's a failure for me as well.
I try since two years now to not buy new dolls. And it was as much a fail in 2022 that is was in 2021.
I aslo planned to craft new accessories. This part of my new year resolutions was more realistic. I made nine wigs, crafted six small skulls, sewed three outfits (and have three more in progress), finished two masks prototypes (and have one more in progress)... it's not that bad.

    19. Pretty good! I didn't overspend this year, except ordering too many different wigs trying to find one that fits well for Frisk. I didn't go through my extra doll stuff to sell like I wanted to though. At this point I will probably wait for the new year for that. I do plan to put in an order from Nine9 style for some clothes but I think that's about it...?

I'm just waiting for two heads back from a faceup artist, and my soft goal for 2023 is for no new dolls or doll purchases period! I also want to take photographs of everyone and create/update all their profile pages.

    20. I had resolved to do eyes this year and I have all the stuff together for doing that. I also worked on my storage system, which was another resolution, but it still needs revising. I put another big doll on layaway in January, to shell a long-desired character and bought a couple more dolls/bodies I hadn't intended to. But no resolution there, so I'm actually good!:celebrate
