1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How long have you gone without doing anything doll-related?

Mar 1, 2015

    1. I'm a college student and I've noticed that a lot of my friends leave their hobbies at home when they go off to college (a sport, video games, etc.). By contrast, I've brought both my dolls and my sewing machine here, although I left paint and sealant at home because I feel like they are lonely.

Does anyone else have a hard time parting with their dolls?

    2. I've spent a few months without my dolls and I really started to miss them... I'd miss my other hobbies too like mentioned video games but I think a doll would be easy enough to carry with me if I was for example a year away from home.. So, I think I'd take at least one of them with me. ^^

    3. I interact with my dolls almost every day. Sometimes they just sit there looking pretty and I just do other things. I'll think of stuff for them, I'll browse sites but their not 100% "NEEDTODODOLLTHINGSNAO." Bought the MSD's Cubs helmets to show team support just yesterday.

    4. I had a very busy year last year with moving around and stuff...basically it amounted to a year and a half where I didn't do anything with my dolls.

Now that I've got more free time and money again, I've bought two in a month and have been sewing like crazy. @_@

    5. Like two years lol.

    6. About 3 years, when I took a lengthy hobby break. I kept the dolls around, of course; they were out where I could see them, but I didn't interact with them at all during that time. (One poor doll got stuck wearing a Santa suit for the entire period of the break, that's how little I was involved with them.) It accompanied a period in my life where I was having a rough time of things, and transitioning a lot of stuff in my life. It wasn't until after I'd settled back in again that I finally started interacting with them again.

The nice thing about dolls, however, is that they will wait. :)

    7. I think there was a time I took about a year and a half to two year break. It had a lot to do with college/work and a lack of time to myself. I didn't put them up. They were still displayed in my room, but I didn't touch them or interact with them. Now that I've got a full time job they've pretty much taken the spot of my main creative outlet, which is nice... But expensive. :sweat

    8. Some months I think? I sometimes take breaks from the hobby for different reasons. It's not like I don't do anything with them in that time but I'm just not into it. I might do a face-up or make some clothes and even take a picture or two, but I don't check on new dolls or buy them or am active in the forums at all.

    9. Thanks for the replies! It's good to know that even if I take a long break in the hobby, I may still feel the need to come back!

If you have spent some time away from bjds, do you have other hobbies that you are constantly involved in? Conversely, if you can't seep to extricate yourself from this hobby, have you taken a long break from another?

Is the bjd hobby like riding a bicycle? Are there things you forget?

    10. I took a break for about 2-3 years and I'm just now getting back into it. I always left my dolls on display, they just got a little dusty and I didn't do much with them. I did have quite a few other hobbies that definitely kept me busy-Lolita, fanfiction, drawing, so I was never bored. But I find these other hobbies, particularly drawing and writing, helped me keep a constant connection with my dolls as they are based after personal characters of mine and every once in awhile I'd feel that pull to bring them back into the limelight.

The only things I really seem to be out of the loop about now that I'm coming back into the hobby is all of the new companies that sprang up while I was gone and which ones went under. The whole recast fiasco also seems to have completely blown up. But essentially all of the basics that I learned and whatnot are pretty easy to remember and get back into.

    11. Since 2004... many 3 or 4 months? But I always come back... actually, I never leave! :D

    12. I've taken a little over a year off from BJD's recently, and I never did stop liking them, I just sort of lost my drive to do more with them there for a while. Mostly due to having a new baby and a lot less time. but things are starting to adjust, and I've been finding the sudden urge to get into the hobby a bit more than I had previously. I do have a few other hobbies, mainly rping/wiring, and gaming, and those did seem to take the front seat during my break. But one thing is for sure, I don't ever actually picture myself quitting bjd's permanently.

    13. I took a 5 min brake......it was terrible.

    14. After my dismay with my first doll, I boxed her up, put her under my bed, and left her there. I didn't do anything with the BJD hobby for about 7 months, until I recently came back to sell said doll and finally buy the YOSD I absolutely adored. My interest has been sparked again. :aheartbea

    15. I haven't done anything since I received my first doll in December of 2013. Well, that all changed when I saw Custom House Ange Ai Gaby. :aheartbea Imagine my giddiness when I realized that the owner was selling him. I currently have him on layaway.

    16. My dolls are my main hobby, and almost all of my other hobbies are connected, so I do doll stuff pretty much daily. I think the longest I've gone without was right after I got my first doll, for a week while I was on my honeymoon! But even then, I did buy a few tiny things for Amir, so I guess I was still in doll mode. XD

    17. I got my girl around April last year and had some problems with her (some parts had to be sent back, because the holes for the strings weren't drilled)... So I actually got my doll July last year and I had some problems to bond with her because of what happened... So it took me until now to find back to the hobby, because a very nice friend finally start with the BJD hobby, we talk a lot about it and stuff and finally I found my joy back

    18. This is a very sweet way to put it.

I have been so busy since I had my daughter and son and my BJD live in a nice closet where I know they're clean and out of the sun. They're always there though and on a bad day just opening them back up again is calming.

I had my dollhouse stashed in a different closet for a few years and just took it out again a couple weeks ago. Hoping my daughter continues to be trustworthy around it...

It's been fun rediscovering all the treasures I had accumulated (hoarded).

      Cheers!
      ~Anika

    19. I usually will go about a month or 2 where I won't have anything to do with bjds. You know just step back for a bit, figure out what I want to do next. Then come back and be heavily interested again.

    20. I do something doll related every day. I think it keeps me sane....
