1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How many different companies/artists do you have BJDs from?

Oct 27, 2023

    1. This question inspired by a listen of TLC's 'waterfalls'. (Do you chase waterfalls, or stick to the rivers and lakes that you're used to?)

I have BJDs (in house and preordered) from Fairyland, Soul Doll, and YummySweetDolls. I've kind of wondered if I should broaden my variety in makers, but then, when I spent some serious time reviewing dolly profiles last night, I couldn't help but notice that almost every doll that caught my eye was a Fairyland or a Soul Doll (even when I didn't know until I clicked the profile to get all the detailed info!). So I'm not really sure it's worth it to be actively looking at other companies, or if instead I should just be saving more money for the next FL release, etc, etc.

How do you approach this aspect of collecting?

    2. I have dolls/pieces from 9 different makers. If I buy more future dolls, I expect I will buy from 4 of those companies I already own dolls from. They just cater to my tastes that well! There's one more company that has caught my eye that I haven't bought from who I would also consider. I'm not throwing other companies out, but I'm not actively searching for more dolls.

    3. For now its only three companies.
Ringdoll, Loongsoul and, IOS. I have one 2D doll that I just ordered but he wont be here until much later. Its not so much loyalty to brands, its more that I pick whatever matches my personal tastes + what oc would be good the be in that shell.

    4. I have ordered/received (not counting for sale/sold dolls) from 9 companies:
      Small artist Chinese: 5
      Small artist American: 1
      Small artist French: 1
      Japanese company: 1
      South Korean company: 1
And the one duplicate doll I have (actually the same sculpt) is from an American small artist. I consider small artists to be single artist (or collab) sales on social media with preorders. I’m a sucker for small preorders, even better if it is an OOAK like fullset. Nearly all of these are from Instagram.

    5. Oh wheeeee I feel like it's my moment here :XD: I counted to try to make sure it's accurate but for my DoA on topic dolls I have currently (including anything I'm selling because they may or may not ever sell, so this is more accurate)

23 full dolls + 3 floating heads from
      32 different companies/ artists

(I have almost entirely hybrids and very few repeat companies at the moment) I've been in the hobby a long time sold many of my previous dolls too... So now I'm wondering how many makers I have seen go through my collection.
From the beginning, what I wanted to to was experience all the cool dolls I could, so very seldom overall did I buy from the same makers or if I did it was sometimes staggered ownership. I still do have a pretty distinctive preference for types of faces I would say, but I found what I like in many places and it was a fabulous adventure. :D

You should follow your heart though, as to what interests you, not feel like you ought to do things one way or another.

    6. Twelve!

Ten of those companies are represented in my collection as heads and/or full dolls: Crobidoll, Doll Leaves, Doll Love, Doll Zone, Fairyland, Latidoll, Luts (both CP and current), Myou, Resinsoul, Volks

And two I only have bodies from: Angel of Dream & Infiniti Doll

    7. I purchase dolls based off of what calls to me versus brand loyalty, and I'm not really looking to expand my collection to large numbers. That being said, two of my dolls are from the same company! So I have dolls (full + individual heads) at home or on order from 6 companies (4 on-topic companies: Angell Studio, Asleep Eidolon, Loongsoul, and Luts). :] The most important thing to me is enjoying how a sculpt looks or how well a body performs. The companies that I've ordered from definitely have other dolls that interest me as well, but at the moment I don't feel like they'd add something new enough to warrant purchasing.

    8. 30 if you only count the strictly on-topic, human-type dolls in my crew... And if we're counting my pre-Fairyland CP/Delfs and Fairyland dolls all under the same Cerberus Project company heading.

It's 44 if you also add in the gaggle of questionably-topical "creatures" in the Menagerie. There are also about half a dozen other companies that I have owned dolls from in the past, but who are no longer represented in the current gang.

Some of those companies and artists I only have one or two dolls from. A couple (Volks and Cerberus Project, primarily, with Lati and Soom a bit behind them-) are represented by entire small tribes. I tend to choose based on what I like, though, rather than having any particular loyalty to specific companies, so I've ended up with a varied collection over the years, in spite of having a few obvious favorites.

ETA: Just for fun, for On Topic dolls I have...
      Cerberus Project (CP/Delfs & Fairyland)
      Volks
      Soom
      Luts
      Iple House
      LatiDoll
      Doll Chateau
      Spirit Doll
      FECTDoll
      Elf Doll
      Dream High
      Sugarble
      Argonautica
      Resin Soul
      Dream Valley
      Dollshe
      DollZone
      Elf Elly
      Forever Virginia
      Freakstyle
      Granado
      Doll Love
      Angel Region
      Island Doll
      Unidoll
      Dollstories
      Felix Doll
      Bishonen House
... and a MigiDoll head on an April Story body

(The "Once Had but Sold On" companies would be... Gomi Doll, Angel Studio, Fantasy Doll, Only Doll, Miro Doll and Doll Family)

    9. I only follow my heart and my wallet. I have dolls from many different companies and price points, but honestly I sometimes look for a cheaper option if there's a doll that gives me the same sort of vibe from a less expensive company. I don't care who makes them, only if they suit the character I have in mind or they make me feel something.

Are there companies I like more than others? Sure! But I don't have anything remotely like brand loyalty :sweat

I have dolls/heads/bodies (lots of hybrids!) from at least 30 companies/artists.

    10. I've bought dolls from 33 different companies in total but currently only own dolls from 29 companies.

    11. Nine or ten, including my vinyl gang. But there are three companies where the majority of my group come from. Fairyland, Luts, and Dollmore.

Edit: Wait, just thought of two more! :XD:

    12. I own / have owned 7 different companies' dolls. I am honestly surprised! I currently own 9 dolls. I am ordering from another artist this week and that'll be the 8th maker and 10th doll in my current collection. :love

    13. Together with the ordered body, I have parts from, I think, 7? companies? Most of my dolls are hybrids, though, so that racks up. I have Dollzone, Doll Legend, Souldoll, Dollmore, Alchemic Labo, Myou and incoming Huajing parts. That makes for 4 full dolls :sweat

    14. I have six dolls from four companies: Soom, MigiDoll, LatiDoll, and Volks. The Migidoll dolls have bodies that aren't from Migidoll, but the bodies are from Soom and Volks, so still only four companies all in all!

    15. Ooh now let me think…… currently around 9 or 10 if you count hybrids. If I also count past dolls then that brings the total to 16, no 17.

Like most people I have preferences but go with what I like rather than any particular brand loyalty.

I have/had from Fairyland, Doll Chateau, Dollzone, Dollstown, Iplehouse, Luts, Tinybear/Sleeping Elf, Leekeworld, Popodoll, Doll Family-H, Missmian, Daisydayes, Kaye Wiggs, Bambicrony, Planetdoll, Happydoll, DIM (minimee), Demon Garden.

    16. I have dolls from 8 different companies and have 3 preordered that are each from companies/artists that I do not have yet. So I will have 33 dolls total from 11 different companies when those come in.

I have companies I know I can depend on but others catch my eye and I can’t resist trying them out. I have only sold a total of 3 bjd so my intuition when trying a new company is pretty successful.

    17. I have dolls from two different "brands", Dollzone and Doll Chateau, although they are sister companies, owned by the same larger company so... I guess actually only one? But I have dolls on my wishlist from all different kinds of makers, from the biggies like Soom to very small independent artists. I just need more funds before I can make my collection more diverse LOL

    18. When I was actively looking to buy BJD, over a decade ago. I never paid any attention to whether the sculpts I liked were from a particular maker or another. I just purchased what I knew I loved.

I own BJD from five different creators. Six if we count floating heads, and most of those are by SoulDoll, because I do favor their sculpts. However, I never stopped myself from looking at different brands, just because I favor one maker over others. I enjoy purchasing what I love and will always rather not regret not having purchased something I really loved, just because I was trying to be something I am not.

I have missed out on certain dolls and head sculpts in the past, due to lack of funds or because I didn't know they were being discontinued. So, I know I much rather own the doll or head sculpts I want to own, than to limit myself for no actual meaningful reason. That is only what matters to me however, owning the toys I love, I know that what works for one doll enthusiast doesn't necessarily work for everyone. Good luck! (:

    19. Counting off-topic brands, I have bought from twenty-one different companies and artists. Fairyland is approximately half of my collection, with more than a third of my collection being their Alan sculpt in particular. So even though I have a huge variety, I also don't.

    20. Dream Valley is like 80-90% of my entire collection at this point, though I also have dolls from:

Luts, Resinsoul, Pipos, Dollzone, Digi_Dolls, Seed Arts (an OOAK head), Mystic Kids, Withdoll, Doll Family A, Island Doll…

Most of the above are one-offs. I only have my eye on Dream Valley, nowadays.
