How many dolls do you usually take to a meet up?

Jul 10, 2009

    1. I was just wondering . I know myself I could only comfortably handle one or two at the most ( I'm 5'1 so my 60cm can get heavy)but do you think its excessive to bring more then say 4 ( providing no one has asked to see your particular doll?)

Or do you want to see all the dolls a person has in their collection?

Or would that be in bad form ,like showing off? But isnt that what we are there for to see each others dolls?

Or do you only bring your newest doll?

I only ask because the way I was raised it would be like I was showing off. If someone else brought a gangload of dolls I would be like "Cool! lets see them!" but for me personally I wouldnt want to seem like a show off not to mention have to lug them around.

Edit: and what about the second meet up with the same people? Do you bring only one doll with a diffferent look or ?

let me know what you do:fangirl:

    2. Well, I have friends who bring all their dolls and I do enjoy seeing every last one of them <3 However, for me I usually do not bring more than 2 and most of the time just one. More than just is just too much for me to carry (I have some small back problems and I do not want to push it).

    3. I took Reija and Bbub to my first meet, but now that I have a Bobobie and a puki pongpong they will come to all the meets too, I even got a better carry bag than I had to accomodate them!
my tallest is Reija at 44cms so it's not that bigger deal yet......

    4. Personally, I bring my whole crew. (10 or 11 I believe, mostly MSD so they aren't all that heavy)
I've fixed up a small wheeled suitcase to accomodate all of my crew, and normally at the meetups I go to, our dollies are displayed on tables so I don't have to worry about carrying them all around.
I like bringing everyone because it gives me the opportunity to take plenty of pics with my dolls and others. (We also do swaps at our meet-ups and I like having everyone there to try things on and such. (Plus, my Mother says "Stop playing favorites!":sweat)

    5. Depends for me. I hardly ever bring them all out. I have done that twice and it was far too hard to do and a lot of work. If I am bringing bigger dolls, I will bring 1-3 dolls. If they are tinies, I will bring more, say 6 or more because they are much easier to carry.

    6. I usually bring 2-4 of my kids, depending on how many fit in the bag and how many I feel like carrying around all day. :)

    7. I've only been to one, and the type of meet I would normally be able to go to is in 2 parts - one walking around a doll store, and another with a place with tables and chairs. At the one I went to, I took all 3 of my dolls at the time. I also had my cousin and sister with me, and they each carried one so it was one each.

If it was just me going, I'd probably take one or 2 (plus the Puki, once it's here) in to the first part, and maybe an additional one to the second part. My cousin would be with me, but she has her own to carry, now! It'd depend on if someone asked to see specific ones which I'd choose - I know I need to take Devon to the next meet, for example, and last time a couple people wanted to see Crow (since he's a less-common sculpt). I don't know that I'd ever take everyone again, unless it was specifically requested and I had help. Especially because some of mine are just heads most of the time.

I can only fit 4 minis in carriers, and don't have a carrier for Devon, so that limits me without help.

    8. I have only once taken four dolls to a meet-up and despite them all being minis at the time I still felt highly uncomfortable doing so. Not only were they alot to keep track of, but I do admit for having felt somewhat of a show-off, despite them being far from the prettiest dolls there.

As it is now I think I like to stick to only one or two dolls a meet-up and even then I hardly think I'd be willing to bring 2 60cms. I feel they're easier to watch over, to carry around and keep close (if you're paranoid like me and worry about something happening to them), and also yes, because it doesn't seem overly flashy. If someone was personally requested to bring many of their dolls then I think that's a different issue, but to bring a whole crew just for the sake of having them all there just feels a little excessive.

    9. If I want, I think I can fit about... 4SD's and 2 MSD's in my trolley (suitcase on wheels).
But truthfully... it depends on the meeting.

Parkmeetings tend to get a little hectic so I only want two with me. Perhaps three but only if there are plenty of people I trust with my dolls.

House meetings are most of the time by invitation only so I can take all my dolls, but again, only if there are plenty of people I trust.

Convention meetings I only take one. Since it's a hassle walking around with more.

On most meetings I go to I know people, netherlands has a small community, so I trust those people with my dolls so I don't always have to watch out for them since we watch out for eachothers dolls.
However on meets I don't know most people I want to watch my dolls. I don't like people posing my dolls in Yaoi/fanservice kind of ways or touching their face, undressing without asking and so on, so I tend to bring less dolls to control the situation more.

    10. Speaking as someone who doesn't have a doll yet and who would go to a meetup to see others' dolls -- I would not think it boastful to see someone with several dolls; I would be pleased to have the chance to see a lot of dolls and learn more about the different styles, makers and customization ideas!

    11. Oh, let me add something to make sure that didn't sound wrong -- I wouldn't be looking to rip off other people's customizations, but just to see and be inspired by the creative things people can do with their dolls. I'm looking forward to a meetup soon just so I can see more of these dolls in real life and not just through pictures on the internet!

    12. My GF and I usually bring two, sometimes three each. It's pointless for us to have a car in SF so we get around by public transportation and walking. More than six dolls by bus would be ridiculous. I choose which come with me by figuring out who hasn't been out in the longest time and/or who is dressed and ready to go. New dolls tend to get first dibs on going to a meet-up.

I don't really notice if someone brings one doll or 10 but if a single person always brought all of their dolls I'd find it odd. It's seems a lot of effort and possible dolly damage with little pay off. I do go to meets to see more dolls but most of the time I don't even have a chance to see everybody's dolls because I'm too busy socializing with the actual people.

    13. If I can, I bring them all. Lately I've only been bringing two, because they're easier to manage if I'm moving around a lot. But I did pick up a small stroller at a thrift store, which fits my two big boys, and the third if he doesn't mind getting snuggly. :) The MSDs can ride around in my backpack.

I love to see everyone's dolls. Since not everyone can make every meet, it's nice to be able to 'meet' them for the people who couldn't make the last meet they went to. I'd be sad, I think, if some got left at home, even though I do it myself at times.

    14. Two times I took two MSDs, and all of the other times I only took one SD.

I'll probably take one SD from now on unless it's a ZOMGHUGE meetup.

    15. Well, I haven't actually attended a local meet yet, but I must say, when I do, I hope everyone brings as many dolls as they can! I have been watching the local meet thread in my area, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the dolls of local owners! When I am able to attend my first meet with them, I hope they bring everyone they can!

    16. Major meet up (20+ people) and conventions I bring all of them. Smaller meets I try to limit myself to maybe 3 or 4 depending on which dolls I've been asked to bring. Right now I'm at 8 dolls with the majority being Yo size and smaller so it's far easier to bring all of the tinies opposed to the MSDs and tinies. I know once I go into the SDs the limit is gonna get strick with me. It's hard to lug them around in their boxes to meets.

I don't feel as if I'm showing off by bringing all of mine to a meet up. Perfect example was in our Chicago group at one point we had 3 YoSD Hinaichigos from Volks. Now you think by having 3 of the same doll they would all look alike, but they didn't. I had changed out the eyes and wig on my Hina, same as another, but the 3rd was left default everything. Those 3 looked real different as there were even subtle differences in the face ups. It was real interesting to find out for sure.

    17. I only have two dolls (a third on the way) so I don't really have enough not to bring all of them with me... but I will say I like it when other people bring lots of dolls to meetups. It gives me a chance to see lots of different sizes, sculpts, colours, faceup artists' work, etc. I suppose it can come across as showing off, but it's also sharing those dolls with everyone else there who can see what they look like in person! :D

    18. I love when other people bring as many of their dolls as they can! :) The more resin, the better! It gives me a chance to see other sorts of dolls than my own, and it's cool to see other peoples' collections in person, no matter how large. It definitely doesn't seem like showing off by simply bringing a bunch of dolls.
I do have a limit for myself, though. Due to convenience XD For meet-ups and conventions, I bring one doll only (usually my SD). While walking around (especially at cons!) carrying a doll can be a hassle, especially a 60cm+ doll. I carried one of my old SDs around for about an hour once, and as soon as I set him down, my arm couldn't stop shaking. Any more would probably have made it fall off! I would consider taking two, maybe three, if I had a carrier I could put one in while I carried the other. It's all about what you can handle. If you can manage to bring four or five dolls with you, go for it!
And as for second/third/trillionth meet-ups, I don't see any reason to not bring as many dolls as you did to the first if you want to. I'm sure everyone would want to see your dolls again ^__^

    19. I am one of those people who takes all of their dolls to every meet, usually because I get a dozen PMs asking "oh can you bring that mold, i really want to see one" and there are just certain characters who MUST go, I can't leave them behind...but in all honesty the real reason is I simply can never make up my mind who has to stay home.

Now I just stated I take all of them (or all that i have in the country anyway) but there is now an issue...my collection is getting a bit silly, and I DO feel like I am showing off, or more that people may think I am. I am not, I know I am lucky to have so many, but I worked DAMN hard to gt them so iam proud of them and I love the pleasure others get from them. Of course the 20+ I have now is getting hard to manage, I can usually handle 10-15 in a decent suitcase (I am an expert packer) but still....

As for conventions, well If I go to a convention or show I normally take one if I have no bag, and up to five if I use a shoulder bag, three SD and two mini in that case, usually one of the SD will belong to my SO, I just get stuck carrying it

    20. I'm pretty much like Chopsticks, I love to see other people's dolls, so I don't mind if they will be more. But as for myself, I can bring only one or two, they are too heavy for me. :)
