How many people think of their Minis as adults instead of children?

May 30, 2013

    1. I'm curious because my Minis are adults, even though they're typically supposed to be children or teens. So I was just wondering how many other people have adult Minis. Personally I think I view mine as adults because I'm really short and have a sort ofbabyish face, and relate to Minis in that way.

    2. :) My girl witch is a obitsu 45cm girl is a child and the other one l have planed is a teen so l think it's up to the person that likes the MSD size.

    3. My MSDs are 17-20 :P

    4. I have a pukifee(taking the size down a tad more :D) and I dont see her as a child, Im 5ft 5 and I see her as a young adult too:)

    5. I think it depends on the doll. Volks MSDs are intended to be younger because they're sculpted that way. Their bodies aren't mature and their faces are very youthful. Fairyland MiniFees, on the other hand, are intended to be young adults. Their bodies are sculpted to be far more mature than MSDs.

My Unoa is an adult, but my Volks SDC (a doll the same size as MSD but more mature) is a teenager. I think it's partly down to sculpt and partly down to the owner - I don't think I could be convinced that a Volks Nagisa is an adult, but other MSD sculpts like Toppi or Mihmi have more mature faces and could be believable as an adult or at least a teen.

When you get to YoSD and smaller, I think BJDs start to have a more 'ageless' quality, and it's easier to believe them as chibi versions of adult characters.

    6. For my doll group, MSDs are children, ranging from 7-11 years old, therefore I prefer the more childlike sculpts by Volks, Bluefairy, Dollmore, old Angelregion, etc. I tried some of the more mature minis, but was never happy with them. However I understand why some people prefer the mature mini -- there are some lovely sculpts out there. :)

    7. I agree it depends on the sculpt. I have a Resinsoul MSD, and since she's a slim mini with mature proportions, she's an adult. But I also have an MDD, and although she's about the same height, her proportions are definitely more childlike, so she's 10. I think of my RS as being a 1/4 scale adult, but my MDD, as a child, is still 1/3 and uses 1/3 props. :)

    8. The only mini I have that I consider to even be close to an adult is my Minifee Elf Shiwoo. Mostly cause he's an elf!

    9. When I had my MNF Shiwoo I always thought of him around 19-20, thought it was a stretch for me. I do wish more MSDs looked like adults, otherwise I'd collect them instead. It'd be a tad easier on my wallet.

    10. My minifee Nyne is 21, and I'm saving for a JID Boris who will be 25, and I also want to get another MSD to be around 24/25. Even with the less mature bodied MSDs I still see them as over 20 - I've a lot of adult female friends who are petite and have thin hips and small busts, so even though I prefer more mature sculpted dolls, I don't have a hard time seeing an 'immature' bodied doll as being an adult. At the same time, one of my SD girls is 23.

    11. I think of my MSD as a very petite child-like... half-woman. Not necessarily teen, but not really a woman. She's more like between 14 and 17. I like that she doesn't talk. That makes everything nicer.

    12. Mine are all adults (the youngest is about 18 or so); they're all on more mature sculpts, and I tend to stick to the mature-looking sculpts to keep them in a cohesive group. I don't have any large sized dolls, so that might make it easier to view the minis as adults, too.

    13. Nope, mine are between 9 and 14, but that's because they're not adult shaped, they're sculpts are very child like.

    14. My Dollzone minis are adults with kids of their own. They have grown body shapes, I was able to see a girl Dollzone body before buying and if she had looked too young I might have looked elsewhere or it would have made their daughter a baby instead of school age. And their daughter definitely has a child shape.

    15. I see my MiniFee as a young adult. I guess I am just comfortable with her size. Also her body is more mature, it has all the mature features of a woman. (:

    16. Like others have said, it really does depend on the sculpt. If you have a doll with a mature body, then they look like teens/adults. If they are more childlike, then I see them as children. How people portray them also has an influence but the sculpt of the body is the biggest factor. It's harder to sell a big-busted Unoa or MNF as a young child, or one of the more childish-bodied sculpts as an adult. You can tell me that Unoa is 10, but if she's got the big rack, I can't buy into it.

    17. That is how I see my yo-sds. Ageless, sort of on the mature end of the spectrum. I don't have any MSD dolls, but I think it depends on sculpt and on the owner. That is a good question, as I was wondering the same thing about owners of yosd dolls.
I don't see my yo's as babies or children, and I will not refer to them directly as children. I feel they aren't.

    18. I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with the idea of Yo-SDs being mature. Yo-SD sized dolls usually have soft faces, chubby limbs and rounded, childlike bodies with little or no secondary sexual characteristics. All characteristics of children, and very young children at that. There are a few exceptions, but the general rule seems to tend towards childlike.

Now I can buy them as a "chibi" version. Chibis are generally depicted as short, cute and sexless so a Yo-SD could fit those parameters quite nicely.

    19. I have my chicline Ineffa and my chicline rou who i view as around 27 and 29 ish.

And my Unoa chibi, who i think if i had to give her an age is around 21

    20. That's why I said "it depends on sculpt and on the owner". I was referring to the owner part in my response. The characters I portray in my yo's aren't children. I don't see the character as children, but rather ageless and mature. Like little people/fae or something of that sort. Maturity has nothing to do with physical appearance in this case, but instead with the personification of my dolls.

I hope that wasn't as confusing as it sounded. XP
