    1. (I didn't find anything like this posted before, but please say so if there has been)

I've been wondering this for quite a long time: how much do you care about the body sculpt when you decide whether you put a doll on your wishlist? As in, if you loved the face sculpt of a doll, but didn't care much for the body, would you still consider the doll gorgeous?

For me, I think I might care about the body scuplt more than the face (:o) I think that, with the right faceup and perhaps a little modding, every face mold could look absolutely stunning because faces are so versatile, but body sculpts are less customizable. I am just in love with Unoa, N-dolls, and CP girls, and I fell for the body before the face. But while reading some posts, I think for many people, body isn't as much of a factor as the face.

So I was wondering if I was the only body-oriented person. : o) *ponders*

    2. I agree with you! More than even the headmold the body sculpt matters to me! In fact, there are some dolls out there that I would love to have just for the body!

I also fall for unusual body sculpts. Which is probably why I would like a modded Rasendou or a Doll+ someday... and I also like girl bodies with lost of curves... Ah, the options~!

    3. I've always said ever since i came into the bjd hobby that face comes first.

I mean the face is what makes the doll!
      ^_^

    4. I'd argue that point myself... a face is a large part of the doll, but the body is also a large part. How the doll poses, holds itself... all of this helps make the doll what it is.

This is why I don't bond as well with floating heads... I just can't see them as complete until they are on the right body. And this is also why despite thinking of doing it I haven't switched Chiharu to a swarrico body... I don't feel she'd be the same to me if I did.

    5. I'm so glad there's someone like me! Sometimes, I seriously think of buying a doll that has a phenomenal body even though I don't care much for the face :)

Riven- though, I do think the face is what give the doll the specific personality. That's why I'm always back and forth on a few dolls. It goes "Love the face = BUY! but then again, the body... but the FACE!" Lol

    6. I hate doll bodies that flop or don't pose... it drives me to distraction! I big part of it is that my dolls are also models for my clothes, and so they have got to be able to stand in it without looking like an old man peeing. Which was a problem I frequently had with my old SD13 boy. X3 I hate underwear joints too, it looks like.. well... underwear. :/ I prefer middle joints, but only if they DO something. The sd13 boy could bend a little and go side to side. The souldoll boy body middle joint didn't really serve a purpose- which frustrated me. I like the way that Narae 60cm and 42 cm girls pose the best. They bend smoothly at the middle with a nice catch.

They're also a lovely body sculpt. Since I sculpt myself, when there's a blatant anatomical anomaly it really really bothers me and I feel the need to fix it. It's one thing if it's aesthetic to me, like dollshe body's rather cadaverous sculpt. It's another if it's just wonky.

    7. for me it all has to be right....

I adored Corpse straight off, but Devin (yder elf) I thought his face was so gorgeous, but was disappointed in his body. over a short time I found myself liking him less and less, then I put his head on a Duncan body and wow, back in love with the face! the right head an the right body, I mean wow, that decides it, but it has to be both for me. Hence 3 of my four current dollies are frankendollies

    8. Bodies are important to me. If I don't like a body, it won't be staying in my house. I have a couple of CP dolls planned, and will only be purchasing their heads and placing them on Volks bodies since I hate both the sculpt and engineering of the CP body. I really, really hate hip joints and having one automatically removes the body from my keeper list.

I fall for faces first and bodies second, but for me to be entirely happy with my doll, their body has to be just as pleasing to me. I often leave my dolls naked because I love looking at them. What's the point of having a doll that I can't stand seeing unclothed? It's why I will never have a Dollshe doll even if I like the heads, the body totally turns me off and there are no alternatives.

    9. Both are important to me... and if either the face or the body isn't pleasing to me, then I'm a lot less likely to like the doll over-all.

I love everything about my CP guys, for instance. They have bodies that I find attractive and easy to pose, and their faces are appealing. My Hound, on the other hand, is a little more problematic.

I love Seimei's face sculpt, and I like the lines of the Hound body when it's clothed... but I absolutely hate the way they look naked or even bare-chested. The sculpt in its raw form just isn't attractive to me. So, to make peace with him, I have to keep my Hound dressed in a certain way that disguises the short-comings of his body. Otherwise the badly proportioned legs, freakish joints and exagerated ribs will really bother me. 8P

    10. Face, definitely. But I care quite a bit for the body sculpt too. If I disliked the lines of body sculpt but liked the face, I'd sell off the former. It's also important to me that the body sculpt isn't too different from the "normal", so as to make it easier for purchased clothes to fit.

    11. Like Kim, I fall in love with a face first, but the body is really what seals it. The joints have to be appealing, the resin has to be a perfect match, and the head has to sit nicely on it. I'm also very interested in Volks history, I find their different bodies and all of their quirks fascinating, eventually I would like to own one of every single SD body style made. Oldskin and Pureskin, every kind of knee, male, female, angel, and all the skin tones available with each style :D

    12. I notice faces first, but the body has to make sense with the face. I've seen some gorgeous faces on bodies that just aren't right. For example: I love the Secretdoll Yomo head, but it wasn't until they offered the "innocent" version of the body that I *really* wanted to get one (though I'm still without one, she's on the wishlist). I usually like mature-looking MSD-sized dolls, but this was a case where I really expected a younger body to go with the head.

    13. The body sculpt can throw me off of wanting a doll, actually XD; And I agree that certain head molds do not belong on the bodies they're on - in my humble opinion. Like Iplehouse Louis. I want one badly T___T; But he looks like he needs to be short and curvy and girly... not buff like all Iplehouse boys are.

The same goes for the new Afghan-on-Hound-body. I loooove Afghan as a boy, but I'd want him on a shorter, girlier body.

      Maybe that's just my preferance for girlyboys XD;

    14. Yes, bodies matter to me. I hate non-jointed torsos. With a passion. It's a downfall, but it helps when picking dolls. I may like a head sculpt, but if the body bugs me, I will no longer want to buy that doll.

I was really disappointed when CP changed their female bodies. I really, really hate their new one. The breast are just too fake looking and they have the waist joint of the male CP dolls. I loved their old body, but I dislike waist joint soooo much.

      No Lishe for me now.

I'm not fussed on whether they or not they are completely realistic, and I actually prefer a little stylism, but I just can't have a waist joint. It just doesn't look nice at all for me.

    15. Yeah. The new CP bodies make me weep. And I really liked the look of the old ones too!

    16. Personally, the head is at least 85-95% of a doll's appeal to me. I pick and choose my guys based almost entirely on that - if I don't like the body enough, then I might try and swap it out with another company's if possible, otherwise I put up with it. Then again, (as I always mention) all my guys are based on pre-existing characters, so it makes sense that I care most for how closely a sculpt's face echoes the image I have in my mind.

    17. I'll put a doll on my wishlist no matter the body. I'm not opposed to hybridzation, so I know that I can always buy them a different body after selling their current one.

I don't like the Volks bodies other than DD and the boy bodies, so my Volks girl heads are on CP and DD bodies.

    18. For me, if I love a head enough, but hate the dolls default body, I'll make the effort to get it a new body.

For instance, I really don't like Angel Region LF bodies - so if I do eventually get the Cien that I so adore, I'll get him a different body ^^

    19. Face is a very important part, but if you have a beautiful face with a body that looks too small for the head, or hands that lack detail it can ruin the entire doll.

    20. I care about the face the most, but the body is still important. The sculpt needs to match the age of the character and posability is important to me as well. If a particular body really doesn't work, I'll just get a different one for the head (I did that recently for a character that was supposed to be shorter than the CP body his head came with).
