1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

How will the changes to US postal service effect you? (In regards to Dolly mail)

Feb 13, 2013

    1. So if you have not heard, the US Postal service will be closing it's delivery service on Saturdays, eliminating the one day will save the USPS $40 billion dollars over the next 10 years. The postal offices will still be OPEN on Saturdays and you can do other business type things at those places BUT if you do deliver mail there it will not go out until Monday. There will be no Saturday street delivery EXCEPT for those who sent express mail (which makes express an even more premium product.) So basically you wont be getting any mail over the weekend.

I know a lot of people in the states who only CAN ship on weekends, I live in Canada so the rule already applies, but I've lived with it, I've dealt with it all my life, but how will you? Does it even matter?

Please leave opinions and let me know how it will effect you.

    2. I've never had a doll come in on the weekend, for some reason it's such a big package where I am they keep it there and just give it back on business days express or not

    3. It won't affect me too much (most of the time) as I have a PO box, apparently they will still be filling PO Boxes on Saturdays. Before I read that I was like "Noooooo!!!" lol

I love USPS and have had much better experience shipping and receiving items with them than with FedEx or UPS. As a buyer (usually doll stuff) I'd dread it when a seller would only ship UPS or FedEx, because then I knew there was an 90% chance they'd drop my package (expensive items inside!!!) at my neighbor's down the street because they generally always transposed my old house numbers. >_< Argh!! Then they'd mark it delivered!! Very stressful when you see "delivered" and you don't have your $500 (whatever) doll!!

I guess it won't kill us to have to wait one extra day for mail, but I do feel sorry for people with weekday jobs who have a difficult time shipping except on weekends. I fear this will drive traffic away from USPS offices, and do them more harm because of this.

    4. I believe packages can still be delivered in Saturdays. Priorty and Express.

    5. The only problem I forsee is for folks like me who are busy during weekday business hours and have a tough time getting to the post office to pick up packages or being home to take a delivery. But you know...you learn to deal with these things. Yeah, it's a hassle at first, but if that's how things are going to be you have to adapt. Once I get used to it I can't imagine it being that much of a problem.

    6. Wow that sucks, it won't effect me directly but it's a shame.

    7. Well... Two extra days wait if a package arrives on Friday night won't hurt I guess, but in my small town, the postal office gets most of it's business on Saturday, so there might be a issue there, but there won't be much of an issue for me in a way.

    8. This shouldn't really affect me. I try to get the fastest shipping possible for expensive things such as dolls, so I would get express shipping which would still be delivered on Saturdays.

    9. I think it's a total drag. USPS is in a really bad position because of the way they were setup and the way they are run. This will definitely affect me as I often get packages on the weekend. Sometimes I send negatives in to get developed and if they don't make it back on Friday they will usually arrive on Saturday and I can go to the darkroom and print on the weekend. My doll arrived on a Saturday and that was exciting. The tough part is that often doll clothes that I buy from China or Japan often need a signature and I receive a pick-up slip. So Saturday morning is when I go to the post office and pick those packages up. I wonder if it would have been better for them to close on Monday and stay open regular hours on Saturday (and not the short hours they have now).

    10. Monday and Friday tend to be the busiest week days in my experience, but yes, Saturday is the busiest! I read that the only reason USPS is in trouble, is that they are forced by congress to pay all of their employees' pensions in *advance*. None of the other delivery businesses have this burden. I think they do it to try and break USPS, force them to dump benefits altogether or go under, for politically ideological reasons. It's a darn shame.

    11. I will probably still go check the mailbox on Saturday and be disappointed when nothing is there...

    12. I hate the fact that the post office is going to be closed on Saturday. It is more convenient on the weekends than during the week.

    13. This is my main concern as well. When I mail small items I bring them to my work, when I want to mail a doll I always take it by hand directly to my post office to ship it. I want as much control as possible over it, and I don't want to risk carrying it on the Subway to work when I could just drive it directly to the post office's hands.

I hope I don't want or need to sell any of my dolls again though :P so in the grand scheme of things hopefully this won't be a problem for me. I can see how it would be a problem for others, especially if they don't have accessible mail pickup at work.

Like others have said, I'm sure we'll adapt. Saturdays aren't really business days anyways, so it actually makes a lot of sense. In the professional world, Saturdays may as well not exist anyways.

    14. I'm pretty sure it's already like that here! Some of our post offices are closed on Saturdays too, and I worry mine will be if I have to go pick up Fly D:

    15. Packages will still be delivered on Saturdays -- and I believe that's any package, not just Priority/Express. So no worrying about having to wait extra time for dolls to come in. :3

That said -- the USPS press release specifically states that Post Offices that are currently open on Saturdays will stay open on Saturdays. So relax, you can still mail stuff on Saturday too. ^___^

Really, the new delivery schedule shouldn't affect the doll hobby much at all. For small parcels in bubble mailers, yes -- they'll be delayed by a couple of days. Everything else seems to be business as usual.

    16. As other people have already mentioned, they will still be delivering packages, which is basically all I care about. I flipped out when I saw this thread because I hadn't heard anything about this (and I consider myself on top of things related to the post office!), but when I Googled it the first thing I read was that it would be limited to normal mail. That's a relief.

You may want to edit your post to avoid any further confusion, The Count:)

    17. I love how in all its wisdom the gov'mint sees USPS is having problems competing - say w/FEDEX - & therefore makes the service EVEN WORSE.... ~sigh~
I have a P O box so it will only affect my ability to get stuff that's too big for the box. But its soooo annoying!!!

    18. Which post stations were to be closed on Saturday was determined and implemented last year. So no additional closures are planned at this point.

Also, if you don't mind paying a bit more, UPS stores are starting to offer mailing services now. I noticed they were offering Priority and had the flat rate boxes on display. You can call the one nearest you to ask if that includes regular packages too.

Frankly, I'm happy with being able to get out and started on the weekend without having to worry about mail sitting in my mailbox or on my front stoop!

    19. Actually, if you have a P.O. box, delivery continues uninterrupted as normal.

    20. As another Canadian, I'm also going "What? Mail on the weekends? What sorcery is this??" I don't think it will really effect me.
