1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Hybrid resins reacting?

Sep 16, 2021

    1. Hey guys! I recently got a doll body (Soul Doll) and wanted to put it together with a head from another company. However, I think I saw somewhere many years ago that if resins from two different companies touch, the resin will eventually melt/break. Is this true?
I know that when I had Pullips and had to mod them with obitsu bodies, that was the case (which is why we wrapped their necks in Teflon tape).
If this is true, how can I remedy this? :sweat
      Thank you!

    2. I have a hybrid iplehouse migidoll boy with no ill effects 12-ish years later other than the head yellowing slightly more than the body. I've never heard of this happening.

    3. Pullips are soft vinyl and, especially in the early 2000's, when hybridised with obitsu bodies, WOULD melt at the neck. But that is a problem with vinyl, not resin which is just elaborate, HARD, plastic.

So no, not true, you'll be fine, have fun!

    4. No, it's not true lol

    5. I have several hybrid dolls that are over 10 years old and this has not happened, nor have I ever heard of it happening...

    6. I think that's a bit of a BJD myth

I've got mostly hybrids in my large BJD family and some of them are around 15 years old with no signs of anything liek that happening - It can sometimes hapen between the vinyl and harder plastic parts of (off-topic) vinyl dolls, but I've never heard of it happening with resin dolls.

    7. It should be a very common operation to have different heads on the body. I've never heard of this happening.

    8. Polyurethane resin used for BJDs is inert once it has cured. It would not be chemically possible for two bjd resins to melt into one another over any length of time. Resin outgassing will continue over years and can do things like accelerate the oxidizing of silver jewelry worn by a doll or stink up your doll storage boxes, but melting or increased brittleness isn't going to happen just from two different resins being adjacent.

    9. Thank you everyone! It’s such a relief to hear that nothing will happen. Now I can’t wait to put her together :D
