1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Hypothetically speaking... Would you take on a restoration project?

Feb 22, 2013

    1. ... Imagine you've finally found your dream doll being sold at a reasonable price on Ebay. You wanted the doll for aged but your debating whether or not you should get it because you know its going to take a lot of modification to get it 'back to normal.' You'd have to take the time to sand the doll, fill the cracks with putty do the whole body-blushing and the face up yourself. It's a challenge and your not to sure if your up for it yet. Will you take the trouble to restore the doll of you dreams? and why or why wouldn't you do so?

I had no other ideas for a title :...(

    2. I'd do it if the price was right. If I could have my dream doll and truly make it the only one of it's kind..Oh yes.

    3. Yes, in an instant. I like things that need a little love. Then again only if the price was lowered - I wouldn't pay the same price for it as a brand spankin' new doll.

    4. Me too. It'd have to be cheap though to make it worth my while, but I'd like knowing that I'd helped restore the doll to its former glory!

    5. If it's like sixty bucks and a total wreck I'm declaring it a great deal. XD For a restoration project at least.

    6. I wouldn't. I know the restoration would be beyond my ability and not enjoyable for me. It would have to be reasonable for me to buy the doll and pay for someone to restore her--if it was less expensive (or very close) for me to keep searching for my dream doll at a higher price in better condition, that's what I'd do.

    7. I'd go for the damaged one. I'm notoriously low on funds and I like a challenge. I found that even doing my own faceups helps me bond with my dolls, so a restoration project would be right up my street :)

    8. For me, absolutely, to be honest one of my favorite parts of this hobby is repair. I am lucky that I have a history in sculpting so I had a lot of repair compounds on hand, so when things go bad I'm the first one there with apoxie and some boiling water! (a friend had a doll arrive with a cracked torso once). I actually think that if it was a dream doll, that restoring it would actually be really meaningful to me, and make me bond a bit more with it. Knowing that bringing it back to its former glory was an act of dedication (and minimal swearing):)

    9. It depends on the restoration I'd need to do on it. If the modification take away what I liked of the doll then I will most likely not want it as I would never be able to restore it back to what i liked.

If what I loved was left untouched, then I will jump on it like a hyena on fresh meat. I would never let a chance like that go :3

    10. No o.o
I would probably only make it worse, and I have no patience. I would get really depressed over this project and would end up hating the doll.

    11. If it's a dream doll, it would totally depend on what I want the doll for. If I was thinking of modding the doll anyway, I'd go for it. If I wanted the doll for itself, without any modding needed, then I'd likely pass to get one in better condition. Unless the doll itself gave me good mod ideas, then I'd probably go for it if it's a REALLY good price.

    12. If it's the ooak dream doll I've been longing for FOREVER, and I knew, 100%, that it was a legit doll, not recast from a reliable seller......yeah, I think I would. Though I'm not terribly picky about bodies, so I'd probably hybrid and get a good body instead of modding it. I'd just work on the head. And I already do my own faceups and blushing, so that wouldn't be an issue at all. Only way I'd say no is if it was modded beyond all recognition and it would require being nearly resculpted completely.

    13. Hmmm... No. But only because I already have a few other hobbies that take up tons of my time (yes dollhouse, I'm looking at you) and I don't dare to take on yet another massive project.

    14. I love a restoration project :D however I don't trust something sold on ebay to not be a recast. I'd only buy it from a trusted member of DoA.

    15. Some companies have official ebays or ebay representatives, so..... ;)

But yes I don't see why not?? Even if I eventually felt overwhelmed with the restoration I know I could certainly find someone on DOA that I could pay to do it for me -- and STILL have it cost less than the original. (:

    16. But a company wouldn't be selling a damaged project doll...;)

    17. I don't think I'd have the skills to fix the doll of my dreams. I might get her to give it a shot or have her available so she can be fixed up by professional people.

    18. Noo!~ I'm terrible at modding and I faceups. I'm more than happy to give the extra money for the perfect doll.

    19. If I felt like I had the know how to do it, or if I had the money to send it to someone who could (in that second instance the price of the doll would have to be pretty low). I'm comfortable with faceups, restringing, tweaking posing but not jobs that call for a lot of sculpting and sanding.

    20. If the price was right, I'd buy it! I'd love the chance to do some serious restoring!
