1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

If You Bought A Recast

Jul 6, 2013

    1. I found out about recasts a month after I bought my first dolls, but didn't really do any real research into them until I had the scare that one of my secondhand dolls was a recast. She wasn't but the scare left me positive that I should keep informed about what was happening with recasts so I could be a little more confident in purchasing items secondhand. These last few weeks I've been thinking even more about recasts so I decided to pose a hypothetical but completely plausible scenario to see how individuals would react if the situation happened to them.

      Scenario:
You purchase a doll secondhand that has been advertised as legitimate; the seller has also sold many other legitimate dolls that have come with certificates, original boxes and detailed descriptions. The doll you purchase has few pictures and little description, but you you purchase the doll because the seller has many successful transactions and no complaints and find that communication from the seller is then nonexistent. The doll is shipped promptly and arrives quickly. It is superbly packaged in such a way that no damage could occur during shipping. Upon opening the box you discover that not only does the doll have significant damage that wasn't listed, but it is also a recast. (You have know doubts because you have dolls that are from the same company and it's an obvious recast.) Based on the sellers other listings you realize that they have deliberately not disclosed the rather obvious damage as it could not have occurred during shipment. You then realize that as they had deliberately misled you on the condition of the doll they most likely knew the doll was a recast.

      Questions:
      1. How do you react to this situation and what would you do?
      2. Would you feel comfortable sending the doll back to the seller knowing they had deliberately misled you?

      1. This scenario to me symbolizes most peoples greatest fear with bjds. If it happened to me I'd be so so angry:evil: and probably wouldn't be able to think rationally for a few days. Then I would do everything in my power to get my money back as well as send the seller a rather scathing message. I wouldn't be able to accept that the seller didn't know it was a recast when they had deliberately not disclosed the damage.

      2. I wouldn't feel comfortable sending the doll back to the seller because I would be to afraid that they would sell it to someone else under false pretenses and would feel extremely guilty if that happened. I'd want my money back but wouldn't return the doll, in my mind the doll can be written off as a loss to the seller(I wouldn't be able to trust that they wouldn't do what they'd done to me to someone else. I would want to find a proper way to destroy and dispose of the doll so that it couldn't be sold to anyone else.

So what would you guys do, I'd love to hear what you think.

    2. I would probably be extremely upset, open a ticket with the site it was purchased through and paypal, but I would probably keep the doll as a base to modify off of to create my own sculpt (like remove the whole face and sculpt new features). I mean... i paid for the thing, why not mutilate it once things have been solved? I suck at sculpting the heads, have 4 failures at shaping a basic skull in my room now XD

    3. I'd be upset, obviously.
How else do you think people are going to react to being scammed?

    4. I would ask for a refund, or open a ticket if I had to so as to get my money back, but I would also send the doll back if possible. I would not keep it or destroy it if I got my money back unless the payment service demanded that and I legally had to. To me doing that would not feel right. At that point it is no longer my doll to do anything with. It's theirs once more and they need to decide what to do with it, not me. At that point everyone would likely know the doll is a recast anyway and I don't think that person would be able to sell it as legit again. But that's for them to wrestle with. It's their doll, their conscience.

I have had damaged dolls sold to me, though not BJD's. I always called the seller out on it and usually they did take it back. It's never been a major issue except once. I bought a doll on Amazon and the seller did not disclose that there was a lot of staining on her legs. She would not take it back, said that this was a problem with that particular doll, which was true, but I still feel she still should have checked the doll for it and mentioned it in her ad. Given me the choice of whether or not to buy it like that. But she didn't. Likely because she knew no one would buy it even at a discount if she did and I was very angry with her about that.

She would not accept a return so I wrote her a rather negative review and left it at that. Amazon much to my surprise rebated me a $30 gift card over the matter, out of their pockets I would assume since she would not have agreed to that. Someone must have read my review not liked it. I haven't seen any further doll listings from her so maybe they asked her to leave? I don't know but I sincerely hope that if she is still on there that she hasn't sold a damaged doll since. In any case that's now between her and any buyers she might have. They have been warned.

Apparently I'm not the only one who's had this issue with a seller. There's other reviews now besides mine warning people to ask about staining before they buy on a couple of those dolls. To be fair it is a legit problem with the early dolls but I still think anyone selling a doll with staining is obligated to say it's stained even if they do discount the doll to try to get rid of it. That's a pet peeve actually, staining or yellowing or other damage not disclosed. Sometimes I'm fine with it, but I do like to know so I can make that decision not be snookered into buying a damaged doll regardless. In terms of this particular doll I might have actually paid more from a legit doll store to get an unstained doll.

As for the doll whatever else she might get put on her that doll wears tights now. One of these days I may try the zit cream treatment thing on her but I doubt it and I have come to accept that she's not perfect and I love her anyway. It all turned out well in the end. That doll and her sisters (I have a *few* of them now.) is part of the reason I am on this board, why I am now into BJD's. That vinyl BJD she was my gateway doll into the world of resin. I liked her so much that I decided to get a resin doll or two....

    5. 1. How do you react to this situation and what would you do?
I would be really upset ofcourse. I hate lies and I more or less got lied right in my face in that situation.

      2. Would you feel comfortable sending the doll back to the seller knowing they had deliberately misled you?
No, not with confident. But I would have to if I don't want to be a theif. It is illegal to not ship the doll back when you have recieved a refund. And I wouldn't want the person to be able to buy new recasts out of my money.
But, if it would be a dealer who sold it I would tell everyone about it, include pictures and what not. I would contact the company who makes these dolls too so they would be informed.
If it was a private person on the market place I wouldn't be that open about it, but I would show pictures and inform the moderators tho. I can't leave negative feedback to someone who is banned so there is it.
I would still always inform the company who makes the doll, because sometimes they're not aware of their dolls being recasted.

    6. I'd assume it would be close to the way I felt when my doll went "missing" for 2-ish years. That sick sinking feeling following by flushing, sweating and then nausea/ shaking. I would make sure that their account here was banned from the mp until I had my money back.
Unfortunately not all companies give certificates when they sell you a doll (in fact I don't recall ever having a doll that had one), and when dolls are split the papers (if they exist) usually get lost in the shuffle. Ways to avoid getting scammed: always request pictures if they do not provide enough for comparison and ask questions. BE INFORMED on the doll you intend to purchase and look at user pics. If they react in an odd manner to a standard question then you have your first sign not to follow through. In the event that you are scammed, contact the mods (they can at least stop them from scamming other people) and open up a problem transaction thread. Take pictures and show all paperwork regarding transaction. As for other sites and ebay, never used them, but they have a section for that kind of stuff. You could try to pull the money back from paypal (if you used it) but the sellers usually withdrawal the money so there isn't any in their account. Not much else you can do unless it's major dollars and you attempt to sue? Not sure how that would work (with different states/ countries involved).
I wouldn't send the doll back until they completely refunded me the money. After that, I have no problem sending it back. The problem transaction thread will still be there and their feedback would get a major negative review. You can't keep the doll and your money. Bootlegs are constantly being made so keeping it serves no purpose, it won't protect anyone from being scammed.

    7. I would demand a refund, but I don't know what I would do if they didn't give my money back. I'd have to send the doll back, but I would also make it very hard for them to sell another doll, like warning everyone here and other sites about the seller.

    8. paypal claim paypal claim paypal claim. And do everything in my power to warn other people of that seller and hopefully get them banned from here so nobody else could suffer in the same way. It would be so devastating to open up a doll and have that sinking feeling.

As for what I'd do with the doll itself - well, if the terms of the refund stated I had to send it back, that's what I'd have to do. If I could keep it, my response would depend on how I'd feel about the doll. If it was purely bad feelings I'd probably smash it with a sledge hammer which would probably quite exciting. If I felt OK about the doll I'd use it for modding practice. That may well involve smashing it with a sledge hammer, knowing my gung-ho modding attitude :/

    9. Paypal claim, end of discussion. Unfortunately, in that case it's my understanding that you'd have to file under 'item not as described' and you would be required to send the doll back before a refund would be issued, so personal preferences are a bit moot. What you're describing is a pretty serious scam though, so I'd assume really public negative feedback is also in order so the person can't resell the doll.

    10. be upset get in touch with paypal defo return the doll recored delivery so no come backs and also contact the site i bought it off
