1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

In-between size body?

May 3, 2009

    1. (I also posted this to the "Larger Dolls" forum - I hope it is not inappropriate to post to both!) This may be an extremely naive question, but I'm an extreme newbie to BJDs, so that's my excuse! :) I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my DZ Mo girl (MSD-size). I have also recently acquired a Ninodoll Um.Pyo head with plans for him to be Mo's secret admirer. My question is, are there any BJD bodies that are between sizes? I'd like Um.Pyo to be taller than Mo (who is 45cm), but shorter than the standard 60cm SD size, because 45cm - 60cm would be too great a size difference (i.e. the human size equivalents would be approx 7'1" Um.Pyo to 5'4" Mo!). Um.Pyo is NOT a basketball pro! Do BJD bodies exist that are @ 50cm tall? I've looked on many, many sites and not found any, but on many sites, I've been unable to locate measurement information at all. Any insight/advice/referrals would be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

    2. Zaoll Muse and Zaoll Luv (both girls, available at Dollmore) are in-between-- 50 cm-ish I think. I think they are proportioned more like a SD than a MSD; they just have shorter legs but I think they can wear most SD size clothes-- although pants would be too long. Their heads are more MSD in size and they wear 7/8 wigs. (I'm eagerly awaiting my own Zaoll Luv so I did some research on these dolls). Hope this helps! :daisy

    3. OMG, those are beautiful girls!! They are 52cm - exactly the size I'm looking for, but I need a boy body. Gives me hope, though, knowing there are dolls out there in that size range. Thanks so much for the info, and I hope your Luv arrives soon!

    4. Well, I've seen several Zaoll girls modded to boys. So that's an option.

Bobobie also carries a 50 cm boy.

Another option you could check out are the Lati Blue boys - they're listed at 47 cm, but to be honest, they come closer to 49 wigged and clothed, and that's with their itsy-bitsy head. I'm sure they'll pull 50 with an MSD head. Lati Blues are still MSDs, though, so the proportions would not looks as awkward. =)

There are also Volks SD (SD10) boys, but I think they are 54 cm, and have rather childish bodies.

    5. Thanks for all the great info, Lelite! I found Bobobie 50cm dolls, but only girls. The Lati Blue could be a serious consideration, though....I also found a D.I.M. boy that is 47.5cm, so between some more web searching and the help of the good people here at DOA, I'm identifying a few options. Thanks again!

    6. The Junior Iplehouse boy body is listed at 46cm tall, not sure how they actually compare though. I thought Obitsu did a 50cm body with a male torso option but I can't find it now (maybe it's off topic?), that's a vinyl body though so it might not be quite what you're after.

    7. The JID Iplehouse boy body is rather large, and towers over MiniFees. I'm not sure how MiniFees compare to Dollzone bodies, however, and no one local has a Dollzone.

    8. The new DIM Happy body is 47cm tall... He's about a head taller than my Luts KDF, and about half a head taller than my Dollmore kid. But I don't have a DZ to compare him to.

    9. Thanks, everybody, for the great info! I'll have to check out the Iplehouse - that's one I haven't seen yet! The DIM Happy is the closest to what I want size-wise - of course resin match is a whole other issue (I expect I'll have to overcome that with some major body blushing)! Don't know what I was thinking....being a newbie, I probably should've stuck with complete dolls for a while, but the second I saw Um.Pyo, I knew he was the guy for my DZ Mo! Sure appreciate all the wonderful people here at DOA - what a great community! :daisy

    10. Oh...I don't want to disappoint you...but Um.Pyo's head may be too big for these bodies...he's a full blown SD sized head that requires an SD sized neck to carry it...I'm not sure about the DIM Happy body, but looking at the pics and knowing that he's a mini the neck may be too small to work...

I think the 50cm Bobobie boy may be your best bet (here's a thread with pics of him...though...looking at the comparison between him and the Shiwoo - who's Um.Pyo's supposed bodysize - it may be still too small...) or...if the Iplehouse JID boy has such a thick neck compared to the usual minis as their EID guy compared to other large dolls...that might also work (but you'll have to ask someone about measurements, because the one they have on their site - 1.5cm - is obviously incorrect :sweat)

Generally everytime someone was looking for an SD sized head on a mini sized body the answer was that they wouldn't look proportionate...(think of a bobble head...). Maybe you could look around (or start a thread in the Picture Requests subforum) to find someone who can take some pics for you of a SD sized head on a JID or DIM Happy boy body...

    11. Well, better to be disappointed now than after I've ordered/paid for a body that doesn't work for him! Alas, I believe I really have gotten in over my head (really bad pun intended! :doh ). I got a little carried away with this new addiction! You make some very good points (that I had started to think about already, but was trying to ignore!). Soooo, difficult as it is, I'm going to practice patience and wait for Mo to arrive before pursuing any further. It may turn out that the difference in head sizes would mean they'd look ridiculous together, anyway. Thanks for your message....this overzealous newbie needs a reality check now and then! :abambi:

(P.S. interesting re: the 50cm Bobobie boy - he's not on their website - only 50cm girls listed there!)

    12. About the Bobobie boy, his name is Elliot and I believe he is sold through DoA member comicbookartistboi. :)

    13. You can try e-mailing Bobobie, they did say they were going to sell their 50 cm boy on their own website too.

However, if the head you ordered is indeed an SD head, I think you'd want to go with a Volks SD Boy body.... Which is 54 (55?) cm tall, so it wouldn't look as bobble-headed, although depending on the circumference of the head he may look a little child-like because of the proportions. I think Bobobie's 50 cm doll have really narrow necks, which may increase the bobble-headedness.

Orrr, you can get either a Zaoll or a Girl SD body and mod it to boy - they're really petite already, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem. They'd be a little shorter - though again, I'm not sure about the neck.

A word of caution though... Dollzones have heads on the smaller scale of MSD heads... So it may look a little strange in comparison to the SD head, though again that depends on the size.

    14. Oh, this is so similar to my question I quoted the whole thing! I want to get my second doll and my first is a Yomo from Secretdoll who is an msd. I too thought a 60 would be too big and wondered how people choose the next size. and how do you tell which size or doll fits with another? sorrry for being so vague but I'm new too.
I understand basic sizes but how do I find one that is similar to her age? she's probably a young girl, gently prepubescent and that's what I'm looking for. I apologize if this is not the place to post this question.
      :)
