Is it boring to have only one brand of dolls?

Nov 3, 2014

    1. hello there,

I wonder how you feel about it: sure some of you got a favourite brand but despite of this sure you got various brands.
Somehow i wish to buy another doll of another brand but I get back to Iple the most time cause its so natural and realistic looking
and I know how to pose the bodies

What about you? how many various brands do you got in your collection or do you only collect dolls of one special brand?

    2. I have a few dolls from all different companies. I'd get bored with only having dolls from one company I think. I can see why some people do only buy from one company though.

    3. I'm in love with Fairyland because they have so many and wonderful sculpt But I like to have some more of other brand from other companies like Doll Chateau and some French Artists sculpt ( Nobledolls, Lillycat Cerisedolls, etc ):aheartbea

    4. No, I don't think it's boring. You buy your dolls for you and if you only like dolls from one company, well you only like dolls from one company :) Boring doesn't come into it anywhere!

    5. I also don't think it's boring. . . I'd be quite happy with a collection solely from my favorite brand. With that said, after I joined DOA I started seeing so many lovely pictures of other companies' sculpts, and the different ways they were customized, and started to fall in love with them too. So they are definitely on my wishlist as well.

I guess I'm saying I agree with beatnik, it depends on which sculpts/brands you love. And if you love them, you'll never consider it boring, even if your collection is only from one company.

    6. I have dolls from 6 different companies. I can see why someone might like a company enough to get several dolls from them, but if it were me I would get a little bored with it. I like having different types of resin, different types of bodies, different feels and weights to my dolls, etc. It's exciting getting a doll from a company you've never bought from before.

That being said, if you like one company enough to only buy from them, that's not a problem! It's just me that might get a little bored with it, if it's what you like, I don't see any problem with it.

    7. I think it's everyone's personal choices! Boring doesn't really come into the factor at all, I mean, we're all a bunch of doll-crazed people who make up entire personalities and characters about our dollies, I don't know if it can get boring ever. :P

    8. I don't think it's boring, but it might be limiting! For example, if you like elves, but your favorite company doesn't make elf sculpts.

I have nine Volks, eight Dollzones and six Dollfie Dreams. I like having dolls whose looks complement each other so well. But I also have many BJDs who are each the only one I have from certain companies (Elfdoll, Bobobie, Migidoll, k-doll, etc). I'm careful to choose ones that I think look good with my Volks and Dollzones.

    9. I have dolls from six different companies: Soom, CP/Fairyland (does a CP Delf count as Fairyland?), Souldoll, Dreaming Doll, Dollzone, and Unidoll. I don't think I'd get bored of just having one company, if that was the aesthetic I like. Soom's dolls are gorgeous, and so are old Delfs. If I didn't like the other dolls I have I think I'd be happy with just Soom dolls because they have such variety, but I have characters that just would not work as Soom dolls.

    10. I tend to go for different companies. Most of my dolls will be hybridized as well. I do have favourites, but they don't always have what I'm looking for.

Though I have to admit, I'm a bit envious of people who buy all their sculpts from the same company. They don't have to worry about cohesion among their dolls. I didn't think I'd be so picky on this matter :/

    11. It is not boring for me...I'm not going to say which companies I buy from because most of my dolls (SDs and MSDs) are hybrids so the heads are from one company, the bodies from another company and so on.

But I have only tinies(Yo-SDs) from Soom and I wouldn't have it other way :) I love Soom teenies!

    12. Interesting question! Most of my dolls are from the same three companies (Elfdoll, Supia, Granado) but they all tend to have the same look. I like them to be cohesive, so I guess I don't find it boring. :)

    13. I'm really picky about my dolls looking like they "belong" together. Even if my SDs and MSDs aren't in the same story, I still like them to look good sitting on the shelf together XD
So almost all my dolls are from either Fairyland or Luts, because it's a style that I enjoy. If I find another company that looks like they'll fit aesthetically I wouldn't hesitate to jump in. I do have one PeaksWoods girl that I adore! Her head doesn't look too out of place but I decided to try something different and got her on a 65cm body when all my other SDs are around 60cm, so she towers over them all. I want to get her a shorter body and then I think I'll be a lot happier with her.

I do have one exception to my rule though, and I do have one Volks Dollfie Dream. Owning a DD has always been a bit of a pipe dream for me but various things happened and now I own one! She's absolutely perfect and I adore her and all the ways she's so different from the resin dolls. She doesn't belong with them at all, but it doesn't bother me the way I thought it would. She's completely separate and I don't really display her with the resins. As a result she usually gets to be the one to hang out with me when I'm on the computer or sewing or something XD

    14. I was surprised to discover that I am really interested in dolls as dolls - and this in spite the fact that I rolled into BJD-land simply because I wanted doll versions of a few of my characters. I quickly found out that I'm curious about how dolls are constructed, what the different resins are like etc. There are some companies that I really like and of which I have several dolls, but I quickly discovered that I couldn't stay with just one. I'm simply curious about other companies!

All I can say for sure is that I couldn't stand having multiple characters (that aren't twins) on the same body. It would bug me horribly. So even if I had managed to stay with one company, I would have bought different body types for different characters.

    15. No its not boring at all. If you like the style of a particular company then stay with them. Like you I'm a big fan of Iplehouse dolls, so far all my dolls are from them.

    16. I think that depends on the kind of collection you want to have, really. If you want dolls that all look good together and match closely, or if you really love a certain company's aesthetic, then you probably won't get bored with them.

And sometimes there's such a variety between sculpts just within one company that it doesn't feel like they're all the same. For example, I have a lot of Soom dolls. Like, an embarrassing amount. But to me, they all feel very different from each other, even those in the same size group. Sphaler looks nothing like Puss in Boots, and Iv looks very different from Bygg, and a Rosette Fir is so different from any of my other MSDs that it's hard to believe they were produced by the same company!

    17. The truth is that although I am a follower of more realistic BJDs, I dont have a unique house that I look, rather depends on the personality I´m looking for. :)

I love Supiadoll girls, they are so pretty!, each with her own character and the body is beautiful!. Iplehouse also have the realistic style that I want, but certain molds that I like more, like Yur, I love how she looks with that makeup with freckles. Another female BJDs house that I really like is Unoa Quluts of Volks, I am a big fan of Unoa Zero, I love the expressions on her face!. As for men, my favorites are Dollshecraft (especially 70cm), I love David Kuncci!!!, although Gran Philip is also very attractive, Venitu of 5th Motiv too!. Granado have also another interesting male BJDs, Detective nico interested me at the time XD, but it's huge!.

Other interesting house are Ringdoll, Luts, Dreamingdoll.
I also like cats in Dearmine and Pipos, get a little of topic but as fan of cats I can not help it. XD

    18. I started out only getting Volks, from which I now have 9 dolls and 2 heads. It wasn't for any special reason except liking them, it just happened that way.
I wouldn't say it's boring to have many from the same company, it just makes them look good together since they're close style- and scale-wise.

Recently though I've felt like I wanted more diversity, so within maybe a year (?) if I go with my current loose plans I'll probably have dolls from 5-6 different companies.

The most important thing is to do what you feel is right for you :)
It took me some serious thinking to decide I wanted to branch out a little more, and actually put those other sculpts I like on my wishlist.
I'd say if your favorite company doesn't have what you're looking for, just go on a search and find one that does :)

    19. Personally I would be bored only having dolls from one company :P I just see way too many beautiful dolls from different companies. I also don't have an extremely particular taste and I don't care if my dolls look good together.

I have a Fairyland doll and a Volks doll. Currently waiting on a Doll Chateau Doll and a Dollfie dream. So all types of aesthetics here ^^

I'm also very interested in Peakswoods girls and Doll In Mind ladies.

      Soooo many beauties <3

    20. Interesting question! I don't think it's boring at all to buy only one brand of BJD. There are so many BJD companies and sculpts out there that it's really overwhelming! As a newbie, I've definitely latched on to a particular brand. It's much more manageable to research and shop for one brand than many. :) I'm sure that someday I'll find dolls from other companies that I'll want to buy, but for now, I'm sticking with one doll line until I'm more comfortable with the hobby as a whole. And I agree with Motiko; dolls from the same line will look nice together in photos. :aheartbea Starting with one brand is just easier, and you can always branch out later!
