Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Is it common to fall in love with certain dolls or heads?

May 28, 2022

    1. Hello! So I'm super new to the hobby and just bought my first doll! (Its only been a week and I'm still so hyped for it to come and it probably won't be here probably until fall for all I know haha!)

But is it common to fall in love with a certain doll or doll head? xD

I found this head that someone sold online which said it was called MiniFée scar shiwoo from FairyLand. Apparently it was a limited edition head from like 2009. Which stinks cuz I immediately had ideas for a character :love

Only bad thing is that I really don't want to own a 1/3 scale doll. I feel like they're just too big and too lanky for my liking. The doll I'm getting is a 1/6 Dream Valley doll which I feel is a perfect size for me.

Just stinks since this head looks amazing! Idk does anyone know of any good scarred heads like this for a 1/6 or 1/4th? :XD:

    2. I would say it's common yes. Like you, people get ideas for characters based on dolls or doll heads, or it fits with their collection or whatever other reason!

Sadly I don't know anything about good scarred heads for other size dolls.

    3. Minifee dolls are 1/4 scale, they fall into the "slim mini" category, meaning more mature proportioned scale. They're pretty small, about 38-42cm depending on the body you pick.

But I do think this is normal! I'm obsessed with sculpts by Migidoll and five of my boys (out of 7) are Migidoll. It just keeps happening that I need specific features and Migidoll always comes through for me, even if it means a sold out sculpt that I have to be on the look out for secondhand. Yujin is especially my favorite, and I admired other people's Yujin until I finally got mine two years ago. <3 If you are determined to get a specific head, I say don't give up! Check out often, and when you get MP access, check daily for new posts, or even post a WTB (Want to Buy) for the head.

    4. So, just wanted to note that the minifee heads are actually 1/4, not 1/3. The Shiwoo sculpt has been available in many sizes that are no longer available unless second hand, and you can currently buy a minifee shiwoo head from Fairyland right at this moment, but not for long.

    5. Yes totally normal- I only really look at Dollfie dreams but I stumbled across one angel philia head and just had to have it! How or what will speak to you is such an interesting part of the hobby

    6. DARN! I've been looking too but haven't found any yet either.

And ooh! okay, so they're not a 1/3rd giant doll. I think the 1/6th doll I'm getting is 28 cm with the head, so just a bit bigger than a Barbie all around. I'm going to definitely have to check the WTB later on!

It's odd how some things do just speak to you. I did find another doll that's similar to the one I'm getting from Doll Zone that I'm going to keep an eye on too :)

    7. Nope, not too huge at all! They're on the smaller end of 1/4 scale. Fairyland does make dolls in other sizes too. Their Feeple line is 1/3 scale, and Littlefee is 1/6. I don't think they ever made a scar head for LittleFee, but if done right, a good faceup can include scars without it needing to be sculpted onto the doll.

    8. Yes, very common : )
I have one on order but not yet on the way that I loved the sculpt of as soon as I saw photos for a couple years ago. Another doll was a wig model for someone's Etsy shop and I just finished her faceup a few weeks ago.

    9. Haha yes . It’s really common to fell in love with heads . I am the same . Fell in love with minifees too . Well I love fairyland . Minifee sia , minifee Lucywen , minifee Carol , minifee Dina , pukifee Ante , feeple60 carol . These heads I just want them all me fell in love with them . I love only fairyland brand .

    10. I'm new to the hobby too (I ordered my first doll this week too! So excited!) and from the little I've read, it is pretty common to fall for certain heads. And Fairyland makes lovely sculpts, they're popular for a reason. Since scarred Shiwoo is an old head, you might be able to get a faceup artist to recreate their look or do something similar?

    11. I'm slightly obsessed with the Switch boys sculpts and now find myself watching every month to see which ones are released. I would imagine it's quite common to like a particular brand of head.

    12. I like a particular brand of dolls as well. At first I really didn't like Switch, but after seeing them on doa I like them. I bought two heads and is waiting for them. I missed out though on some of the new heads. :sorry

I have a few favorite companies such as Peakswoods, Rosen Lied (defunct), Kana, Lemoon, SartoriaJ, etc. I really didn't like how SJ sculpts looked at first, but after buying one doll I ended up really liking their dolls. Their outfits are so pretty too.

      @Inka'sfriend
I missed out on Ryuzo and Doha as well. I can always look for them somewhere else later or marketplace once I get around to applying.

    13. I missed out too (was after Doha with face u[). The Switch Heads go so very quickly. I also like Kana and Loong Soul are beautiful dolls with wonderful clothing.

    14. I have five of the same RML headsculpt, and two of another RML head, and two of yet another, plus one each of tnother three sculpts by RML, so I'd say it's safe to assume that it's not uncommon to both fall in love with a single headsculpt, AND the sculpts from a partcular company.

The 1/3 sized Limited Edition CP Luts Delf Elf Shiwoo was the first sculpt I fell in love with - unfrotunately, they were already sold out before i even knew BJD's existed, thst was 17 years ago and I still don't have that Elf Shiwoo (though I do have a cute-as buttons Fairlyand LittleFee Elf Shiwoo, who I love to bits).

    15. I fell head over heels for aimerai's neo sculpt and miracle doll's little moth. Had to have them, was love at first sight haha. Miracle Doll is definitely my favourite company at the moment.

I've been lucky that I haven't fallen in love with any discontinued sculpts yet honestly, I tend to fixate haha.

I hope you love your first doll too, dream valley dolls are mad cute!

    16. Yay! What one did you order?

And that is an interesting point! I am so tempted to just get one on layaway, but I think I'll just wait too :)

    17. It’s somewhat common; there’s an Unoa on the secondhand market that I just keep coming back to after a few months. It’s been available since last year, and in that time I just keep coming back to it and imagining owning it, then fixating on something else, then coming back to it again. I’m really tempted to get it tbh, even when I’ve already finalized my doll plans of the year. :XD:

    18. I got MYou Doll's MSD Ling Wei fullset! I didn't originally plan to buy her outfit as well, but the bonnet and skirt were so gorgeous I ended up going for it. They fit my planned character well, too. Also, I wanted to have some clothes I knew 100% would fit her instead of potentially buying some and not having them fit, and having her be naked on my shelf for a while.

    19. I'd say it's a more common than not phenomena, honestly. In a way—it's almost to be expected:3nodding:

For me—I've certainly had those bjds that really stuck with me in that sort of sense. Dollshe King Corey is the epitome of that for me: love at first sight, that continued to grow even more so upon receiving him in person. He's definitely amongst my favorites. To a lesser degree I'd also say similar about Impl's Azalea (elf version) and Plaice (who I've been fawning over for years—and still have yet to obtain; he's on the short list though...), as well as Dollzone Raymond—fell in love with those refined cheekbones and that somber expression.

If I were to go beyond just singular dolls, I'd say that Dragonshell Doll's sculpts are my artist/company infatuation. The sculpts are so unique and positively quirky in a way I just love. I'm especially smitten with Snake (who I'm fortunate to have gotten), Dog, and Cat. I hope that I'll be able to one day manage to add them to my crew:kitty2

    20. GAAASP!! She's so pretty! The black and white with red accents = <3
