1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Is It Rude To Ask About Props (Etc) In Shop Threads (Like Etsy)?

Jan 26, 2015

    1. If there is a duplicate topic somewhere, please direct me! i'm not even sure how to look. lol

i've been scanning through Etsy today and will see an absolutely gorgeous doll and click eagerly only to discover that the thing that drew me to the posting isn't what's even for sale! Yes, the doll's headband is lovely, but where did you get the dress?

Is it rude to contact a shopowner and ask where they got something other than the item they're selling?

    2. I think some people might see this as rude... I'd not get offended, but it seems some might.
      Really depends on the seller.

    3. I agree with SlaveDan (Hi SlaveDan! It's me! Arthur, from tumblr!). I would ask, but say you're sorry if it's rude to ask, and if they're offended, apologize again and don't push the matter. That should be okay. If they get mad beyond that, though, I'd ignore them because that's p out of line IMO. Honestly, I feel like they should list where the other stuff is from in the pics to credit the original creator in the first place. So go ahead and ask!!

    4. Thanks, guys! It's seemed like the people here on DoA would take such a question in stride, but i wasn't sure about in other places or if that's some sort of... unspoken etiquette about it. lol

    5. I wouldn't be offended. Some people might, but I've found out about some of the best items/sellers just by asking! I try not to put much of anything in etsy pictures that isn't included, but with handmade clothes/accessories, you do need a doll model to show fit, so that usually involves showing wig, eyes, faceup, maybe other clothing pieces as well that aren't included. (Like if I'm selling a shirt only, the doll isn't going pantsless for the pic!) As long as they asked nicely and weren't insulting my item, I wouldn't mind.

    6. Sometimes what offends people isn't the question itself but how it is asked.
      Just be cordial and polite.

"I really love the styling of your doll featured in photo X, may I ask where you purchased Y?"

    7. I wouldn't think it'd be seen as rude to ask. I PM people here all the time asking where they got a certain item I see in a photograph they've shared. I would think that other places, the people would be just as kind.

    8. I get questions like this. It's not rude to ask where it came from.

    9. I think if you are asking where they got it and not asking "Hey can I buy (unlisted dress)" They wont mind letting you know.

    10. There are dolls shown in pictures that I really like and I've already asked some etsy shop owners who their model is. One shop never responded and I'm still wondering who the beautiful girl is!
