1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Is there a trick to buying girls clothing for guys?

Jan 4, 2013

    1. One of my boys (Winter, my RD Petter) is quite androgynous and I would really like to purchase him some clothing I have seen in the girls section on Alices Collections, but I am wary of them because they do not list the size of their models and I don't pay much attention to girls so I can't pick out the sculpts to try and hunt down their measurements online. For most items, they offer the 1/3 size and 65cm size for girls items (My guy is a pretty thin, gangly SD, he's definitely no E.I.D. or something XD) so my thinking was that if I ordered him a jacket, say, in 65cm size it would compensate for the fact that he is male and fit him, rather than it being too small if I order it for him in the 1/3 size. I'm not sure if that made sense or not. I know there are a lot of people here that dress their boys in girls clothes so I figured I'd ask if any of you guys who do this have a "rule of thumb" or something when ordering girl things for your boys.

Just for reference, I want to order this ladies jacket for him:

And this jacket and top set:

    2. I have not much experience with it but my daughter has a Dollove Brian. He is rather thin (but not so very) and she loves to dress him up in girls clothes. Up till now she buys him SD13 sized girl clothes and they fit perfectly. The only thing that's too small are girls stockings.

Here you can find a picture of him :

    3. I think you can also give Alice Collections your doll's measurements and they'll make the clothes to fit (I haven't tried this myself, though!)

    4. Ah yes you can for some of their outfits, I did that for this most recent order (Actually since Vin and Winter only have two measurements that are different, and not by much a cm or two, and I want the clothes to fit both of them I just averaged the measurements to get one that will fit both of them). I will see how it turns out, though the clothes I want for him don't have this customization option. I think I will just try making him the coat myself.

    5. Those Ringdoll guys are so twiggy. :chibi

Did you ask Alice's Collections about the measurements for the outfits you want? If you write to them, they should be able to tell you things like sleeve length, chest, waist, & hip measurements for both their 60cm & 65cm sized clothes. That way, you could make an educated guess which one you want.

I've never dressed a Ringdoll in girls' clothes before, myself-- but off the top of my head, I'd say always err on the size of larger. Even a skinny male doll's shoulders & upper arms always seem to be bigger than those of a large female doll. Sleeves will often run short & tight.

I sometimes buy women's clothing for my Volks SDGr & SD17, and I have noticed that an XL-female size (65-70cm girls) is generally OK on them. Ringdoll is skinnier than Volks, but even longer-limbed, so my guess would be the 65cm-girl size. But the clothing-type makes a difference; my boys wear strechy spandex & leather stuff, not nice tailored coats like you're looking for. So I'd still say write to Alice's, and ask them first - they'd be way more helpful than me! :)

    6. Thank you very much for the awesome reply, that really helped me out a lot!
