1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

It's my dolly and I need it NOW! (questions about waiting for a doll to arrive)

Apr 23, 2011

    1. Inspiration for this thread:

I'm currently looking for a body for one of my floating heads and I found a body I love at the right price through an agent on eBay but I wouldn't get it until MID JUNE! (it's April 22nd today). And I'm not sure if I want to wait that long for a body! But the alternative is stalking DOA and Ebay until the right body pops up and who knows how long that would take. (I just bought a body off of DOA and now I believe I'm spoiled by not waiting anymore!)

      So here's my question:

Does wait time influence the doll that you want to get?

    2. Nope, I'm not influenced by wait times at all. If I want a certain something I'll get it no matter how long it takes me. I am a bit influenced by availability though, specially since so many dolls and items are limited in this hobby. I waited almost two years to save up the money for my first doll, then I waited 3 months after ordering her for her to arrive and it wasn't a hard wait at all. I'm also used to being involved with pre-order dolls and items, which can be more testing on the patience since most times you don't even have a clue when the items will be ready.

I've waited 6 months for dolls before and then over a year for some eyes/wigs. Most of the time, I'm too busy doing labor-intensive work to spend too much time thinking, specially about things in the mail. I suppose that is a blessing and a curse, as I sometimes have things show up on my doorstep and I'm like, "Oh, I forgot all about this!"

    3. I think that wait time has the ability to make me less eager to get a doll.

Then again, that's because I'm more likely to get inspired by a different doll and want that one more instead of the one I'm saving up for! That's why I like layaway, because if I'm already paying on a doll, I focus only on it. Right now I'm just impatient about shipping, but that'll pass. XD I should have my next doll sometime next week.

ANYWAYS. If it's something you REALLY want, go for it. If the reason you can't get it until mid june is money... see if you can do a layaway? Or, if the reason is because they are low on stock, make a note you want it and put your money aside for it. And if you see a new doll you want, then start saving up for it!

And DOA is awesome- have you put up a WTB thread? I've gotten PMs from sellers before just by letting people know I want a certain doll!

    4. Oh if only there was a JG Wentworth for dolls XD

But yeah wait time does effect my doll purchases. I usually buy on DoA second hand so I can have faster shipping. I will buy a doll at a more expensive price if it means I get it faster.

    5. No, wait times are irrelevant to me. If I like and want the sculpt, the wait time will be worth it, no matter how long. Of course, if I can get it on the MP or from a dealer that would shorten the wait, I would!

    6. Wait times don't really affect my buying choices unless it's something like extreme company backlog and the ilk.

Though it is nice to buy dolls when they're in stock, I wouldn't put it as a high priority.

    7. No, it doesn't.

In a roundabout way, I blame Soom for this.

My first dolls -- I ordered two together -- were from Soom. They were MAs, from the MA order period when Beryl was released. The unexpected order volume they received from Beryl altered the expected wait times considerably from what they had posted then.

Was it frustrating? Sure. But those were the first two dolls I saw that were precisely what I wanted. Their wait time didn't change that, and had I known what it was? It's not like it changes what the doll looks like, or how appropriate it was.

    8. Lol yes I got it from the JG wentworth commercials!

    9. Nope-- however long it takes, that is how long I must wait. Why should I refuse to buy the doll I love, merely because he'll take X months to arrive? He's here when he's here.

I got used to 3-month waits as soon shortly after I started collecting. Iplehouse LEs = 90 days almost like clockwork, back then! To this day, anything faster than 3 months is a breeze to me.

I have waited as long as 4 months, or maybe it was 5?, when DD-Anne (a one-woman studio) ran into casting problems & delays during the second Lotus Near batch. But I followed her progress along on her blog, day-by-day; watching the whole process as it happened caused me to not even think about the time that was passing. Watching the problem-solving happen alongside the design was fascinating.

But still, the best purchases have been from local friends who live near me-- I agree to buy, they bring the doll over to my house the next day, I hand over a check, we split a bottle of wine, everybody happy. :)

    10. This isn't really a hobby for a person who lacks patience- luckily I have a vague and loose grasp of the passage of time!
Hand made goods made to order always take a while, so I am accustomed to the wait while they make me a lovely dolly just for me. Sometimes I'm lucky and something's in stock, but other times, that's the game- Waiting.

    11. Not particularly, but if I'm looking for a certain doll and I see the mold on the marketplace, I'm more likely to get the second-hand one. That's not necessarily because of shipping, though it is a plus, because I feel like if the doll already exists and is available why have a new one made. /we need an emoticon of a shrugging blue guy

    12. I am generally a very impatient person and I was initially pretty put off by the estimated wait times for dolls, but after doing a bit of waiting, I've found that it just gets me more excited as the anticipation builds and gives me more time to make plans. Besides, I can always distract myself by ordering more dolls in the meantime. ;D (OK, maybe not the best coping strategy...)

I don't think I would be too put off by a long wait time if I really wanted a particular doll, though I wouldn't complain if there was a much faster option.

For your example, if the body was exactly what I wanted, I would probably be inclined to buy it even if it does mean waiting until June - after all, it could take even longer to find another body you like as much.

    13. I tend to buy off the MP (or from dealers if it's just not coming up on the MP), mostly because I like getting a deal. So I guess time does not matter, if in exchange I can save money! I don't have much money but I love my dolls. If I wait, then I can feel better about my dolls because they were what I wanted and I waited for a good price. I certainly don't "need" anything having to do with this hobby, that's just silly. Will resin feed me, clothe me, house me, love me? No. Then it is certainly no "need"!

For the times where I have had to wait, I'm pretty good at distracting myself with other things.

    14. Wait time doesn't bother me any. Virtually everything on my wishlist is older discontinued stuff so it's a matter of stalking until one turns up for sale for the right price.

I just finally got a doll I've wanted for several years. :)

    15. Wait times don't bother me if I know ahead of time that I will have to wait (which is the case with most of the dolls I have gotten). On the other hand, if I bought a doll and was not told that there was a wait time, I think I'd feel frustrated.

Waiting did take some getting used to for me, though. I'd never been interested in something that wasn't immediately available (or within a week). I do think that the long waits for a doll can be fun in their own way. It can give you time to gather wigs and eyes and clothes and other things so that when the new arrival does arrive, you don't then feel like you have to scramble and get all of it like NOW, lol!

I agree with others who have suggested that you make a WTB thread. I had amazing luck with one I posted. I got a response in half an hour :) 'Course, the other one I posted never got a response, but it can't hurt to try!

    16. Time does, indeed.

I might be considered a 'bad' hobbyist, but I'm a very impatient person when it comes to certain things - one of which is the BJD hobby. If a particular doll is going to take more than a month to get to me, I just don't feel it's worth my time. Yeah, maybe I am missing out on a lot of other dolls, but that's ok. I just cannot see myself waiting 3-5 months (or more) for a doll, or anything. I sort of find it odd that most places have you wait two weeks for a blank head.

But there are ways around it. You stalk the marketplace, or you go to distributors in your country, like Junkyspot or DD (for me). It's less expensive, and quicker.

    17. It shouldn't.
I'm a little worried that it might though. I have to wait until the end of June to get my first two BJDs. I'm crazy about getting them soooon. I found another gorgeous doll in the mean time and she would get to me by next week. I'm a little worried I just like her because I can have her soon. She is beautiful, but I'm not convinced by her body. Normally when I'm not convinced by something I would just forget the doll all together, but I can't forget her. It sounds like time is affecting it a little, so I think I'm gonna wait it out until I get my two on the way. If I still want her after I've gotten them then I guess it wasn't time XD

    18. I'm unsure. I'm perfectly capable of waiting 3-5 months for a doll to arrive but I really prefer not to though my reasons usually are more to do with nerves than simple impatience. For example, I put my DiM Alpon on a 4 month layaway through DenverDoll and although by the end of the 4th month I was getting a bit antsy and excited for him to be shipped to me, it wasn't really all that big a deal since I absolutely knew DDE is a reliable dealer and he would come once I paid him off. However, when I waited around 2 months for my Glorydoll Mitsuki I was seriously impatient and wished for him to be shipped 'NOW' because I was such on edge about dealing with such crappy communication and was very stressed about it.

So, I'm perfectly ready and willing to wait on another 4 month layaway for some future DiM dolls from DDE because I know I will eventually recieve my doll. However, waiting that long or longer on a doll that is fully paid from a company (not only Glorydoll but many companies seem to wait until the last minute in announcing delays) would probably cause me to hesitate, weigh my options and I'd likely see it I could find it second hand first.

    19. I don't know if this is true but maybe the reason time might affect me is because I don't have one yet?
I think once I get my first one I'll calm down and be more patient, it's having at least one BJD that's making me yearn for one so much.
      Maybe?
I dunno, it could be interesting if others who don't have their first yet could comment on this as well. Maybe it's just me X3 Normally I am very patient though

    20. Getting your first doll is ALWAYS the worst wait ever. However, please don't buy something just because you really want your first BJD. Get something because it's perfect, because even if you have to wait a while, it'll be worth it, and you know you'll be happy with it. If you get something just because you want your first BJD, you may end up regretting that decision.

I remember waiting for my Azzy (AOD Jimi) was torture. I'd like to tell you that feeling gets better, but it totally doesn't. I still get the same jitters I got waiting for my first doll as waiting for my fifth!!!!
