1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Jointed hands for YOSD or smaller?

Oct 30, 2012

    1. Do they exist? :/ I looked around and I cannot find them, yet some sculptors make such small dolls.. surely this is possible...

    2. Some dolls have "optional hands" in different positions, (like Littlefee, Teenie Gem and SQLabs) and you can reshape fingers by boiling them; but erm, I don't think there are any jointed hands you Yo's, or if that it's even possible! Have you seen how tiny yosd hands are? :aeyepop: And even if they did exist, I bet they'd be a nightmare to restring!

    3. Come, now. I think it IS possible, that's why I'm looking for them. I am not some random curious outsider looking for 1/6 hands for no reason, either - I actually want them because I'm a YOSD owner. -_-

    4. Come now, no need to be snippy.
I haven't seen any hands smaller than 1/4-size being sold, and even that is a lot more limited than 1/3 hands... and for good reason.
Having previously owned tinies, and I have a few 1/3 jointed hands in my possession, I don't think 1/6 are a feasible idea. The pieces, even in SD-sized hands are tiny and delicate, and the elastic is *really* fine-- I fear breaking the elastic to restring it, or even when hooking the hands onto the doll's arm. The stringing channels in the fingers themselves are really small, even in an SD-size hand.
Looking at an SD-sized jointed hand makes me amazed that MSD-sized hands are even a thing to be honest!

    5. I've been getting treated like that a lot lately.. and isn't boiling just common knowledge? Not as mad as I sound. With YOSD hands even being small, working with a magnifying glass and tiny clamping tools might make it possible.. It'd probably be similiar to working with small beads, if I understand jointed hands correctly. I'm not sure about how thin elastic can get before it's too delicate to string that tight, though. I at least know it's possible for tiny action figure hands to be fully jointed, but that's not something I think will ever exist - action figure style hands which attach to BJD's that are professionally cast in resin.

    6. Check these guys out... These littlings are what I was thinking of when I said they can get 'so tiny' Dragonling and Octoling... That little wrist is ridiculously small.

    7. A lot of things are thought to be 'common knowledge', doesn't mean everybody knows it. Common knowledge is subjective, anyway, depending where you are/where you come from. Bandersnatch was just offering the information just in case you happened not to know it yet, and for anybody else reading the thread who's interested/doesn't happen to know it yet. It's nothing against you personally.

Also, with those, the wrist may be small, but it's still bigger than an SD finger, nevermind an MSD or a YOSD finger. ;_; The joint slit in the fingers of an *SD* hand are barely wide enough for me to wedge my thumbnail in. The strings of my jointed hands are thread-thin as well, which is why I'm forever terrified of snapping them haha.

Action figure-style hands may be a better alternative though, as they'd be pin-jointed rather than strung, which would work a lot better for smaller scales! If you find anything that would work, please keep this thread updated as I'm sure it would be helpful to other YOSD owners who want jointed hands for their tinies. *v*

    8. In reference to replacing the end of one of my (SD13) doll's fingers, I had to wear my 10x magnifier visor to be able to see the S hook to bend it back in place and then to see well enough to place the hook in the tiny elastic loop. Wow, I was thankful to have my magnifier and tiny grab tools, they made this problem quick and easy!
I wouldn't know where to buy teensie tiny tools for YoSD's. I would have to do a Google search.
But yes, I would love it if they made them and if they had smooth joint movements. I also would love it if they made jointed feet, toes included. And while on this topic, I would love it if they corrected all the jointed hands to include the third joint in the thumb they left out; yes, they would have to cut a another slit, but at least the hands could pose normal. Hands are very expressive and really important to me. I just think it would be wonderful if in the future they would up-date and improve their sculpts to this degree.

    9. Sorry I misunderstood the intention there... I'm maybe used to a lot more disorganized forums, where users are constantly spamming question threads with 'juvenile' advice and replying without reading the actual post... that type of thing that's rude to the OP since it's a different kind of community. The idea of putting on a dialogue for other members is kind of strange to me. If it's to help other people though, I'm sorry for that again. If I'm looking at that doll correctly, the wrist looks to me to be the width of my YOSD's thumb. Maybe instead of thinking in terms of very small elastic, very thin resin parts. Or a combination of both.. I can imagine that a lot of people would go for pin-jointed hands, but a lot of others would be annoyed that they aren't done with elastic. Metal pins wouldn't look right on a ball-jointed doll in my opinion... but if they looked lifelike enough, maybe with resin pins, I'd go for action figure hands myself.

    10. Wow, I'm sorry if you took my opinion as juvenile, uninformed and flippant; I didn't mean for it to come off that way... u_u; I was just stating that I've never ever seen jointed hands for tiny dolls as it seems impractical (if not impossible), and was giving you some alternate options. If you didn't like what I suggested, you didn't have to snap at me...

I think pin/hinge jointed hands [like this] would be the most feasible idea; maybe not as pretty but probably easier to manage than microscopic hooks and elastics. Perhaps with 3D printing it could be done~ o_o

    11. I did ask one person who does 3D Printing about doing YOSD-sized hands and she said no-way.. she doesn't think she can do it. Hinge hands would be completely possible if someone commissioned them.. I still suspect that strung YOSD hands are possible though... If the tiny elastic broke in a pair of those, though...

    12. This is from the Xagadoll Tinies thread. Same jointed hand as the one Shinku_Rhapsody posted.

    13. Thank you for the update! These are excellent. :celebrate

    14. np im planning to get them for my 30cm boy ;-; i just hope that they'll somehow fit him. please do tell me how well they work out for you xD and if the stringing is hell

    15. I'll have to wait, personally.. Moving soon. Argh, I misbehaved in this thread, looking back at it. I am sorry, Bandersnatch. I was getting frustrated with people outside of this forum treating me like a no-nothing at the time and was becoming extremely touchy, expecting everyone to have a condescending tone. Ive since tried to improve my attitude and brush certain folks off. Im sorry I vented that here of all places. You were just trying to help me get whatever intended effect I was after by suggesting the boiling, but I was too bull headed to admit that. Thank you.
      ..
Four years later and I contradicted myself anyhow.. I got a hinged sd "mechanical" hand from ringdoll. I do not reccomend it, though. I broke the thing in two places transporting my doll to a meet... I would not get hinged hands in yosd or smaller just because of how easily I broke the larger ones . (I've never broken a doll in any way prior.)
