1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Keeping Dollies Safe In Florida Heat

Nov 26, 2021

    1. Hi all! I know some resin doesn't take well to high temperatures and humidity.

Do any Florida-dwelling BJD collectors have tips on keeping your dolls cool in the spring and summer months? Mostly in reference to taking them outside for photos and taking them to meets.

    2. When outside, keep them out of direct sunlight (unless taking a very quick pic). Meets in the shade are a must for both humans and dolls. In the hot months, inside meet-ups are great; dolls can hang out on tables or open floor areas so there’s no humidity or heat to worry about.

The rest of the time mine live in my air conditioned room, away from the windows, so no problems for me. I’ve had BJDs for almost two decades and haven’t had any issues with living in Florida.

    3. I have not had any issues having dolls in FL. Same rules apply for everywhere: try to not have them in direct sunlight, keep them clean, etc. I am less careful then some collectors just because I like to play with them a lot. I take mine out for photo shoots all times of the year and do not stress a whole lot about where the sun is or humidity level, but I do not leave them outside for hours either (Maybe two max at meets?). Have not seen any problems with any of my dolls (resin or otherwise) if they are kept inside out of direct sun (majority of the time). I have been collecting bjds for over 10 years.

    4. Thank you both! I appreciate the info :-) My first baby is coming in soon so I'm gonna try to set up a cool dim place to display them~

    5. Mine too! This info is good to know because I can’t wait to put her on display and do shoots. I would love to keep in touch with FL peeps in case there are any events or meetups in the SF area.

    6. I have taken a couple of mine out for photoshoots in the FL sun. I usually try to go out early in the morning where the sun is not blaring and it's a little cooler. I also have drapes over my windows to block out as much sun from my room.

    8. I don't live in FL, but the city I live rains often(really damp) and very hot in summer.
-Daily restoration: stay way from sunlight usually, no matter where you are. Put your BJD in a humidity control box if you have extra budget.
-Meet: choose an indoor place, i.e. coffee house/ shopping mall/ photo studio......
-Outdoor photo shoot: prepare hat/ sun glasses/ sun screen/ sun-protection clothing...for yourself. BJD? Well......your BJD is more stronger than you at high temperature( if you insist on protection, put up an umbrella). Finishing several photo shoots in this summer, I suggest it's better to go to the mountain than the beach( if you want to stay outside and be cool and comfortable).

    9. This is helpful to know regarding in door storage! Definitely an air conditioned room to help and away from sunlight for me :XD:

    10. Oh man, I plan to move back to a hot state one day and never even thought about how the weather could affect BJD’s. :sweat Glad I read this post before!!

    11. I’m originally from Florida and my best advice is to display in a closet or otherwise dark place with A/C and if you're taking them out watch out for posing them in places near water or lots of foot traffic (I avoided the beach and tourist hotspots usually). Meet-ups in Florida should be indoors mostly (not only for the dolls sake but also the people, heat stroke is not something to disregard) but in the case of outdoor photoshoots then make sure there's a shaded area and place the dolls on picnic blanket or table or something.
