Keeping Tiny Outfits Organized?

Jun 6, 2008

    1. Can ya'all share what it is you do with your outfits to keep them organized? I have some nice outfits, and right now the are tossed in a box. I find it very unsatisfactory and I'm worried I might lose a piece. I'm wondering what solutions people have come up with. There was a doll carrier thread that was emensly helpful to me in deciding what kind of carrier to get for my dolls, so now I'm hoping you all can help me with this problem. It's a big investment, clothing, and I want to protect them :)

One of the things I was thinking of is to use a notebook with card holders (you know, like Pokémon or baseball cards?) I was wondering if that works, if the items stay put, and if anyone knows where I might find those kinds of inserts??

Well thank you for any info!
      Ingie

    2. Depending on the size of your tinies, something like a notebook might work. Hobby shops and shops that sell baseball cards, and even places like Walmart would probably sell card holders. Those might work for the really little tinies, like Pukis or other Kelly-sized dolls. Or you can use larger holders like the kind for comic books, and put several outfits in one, or put outfits for larger tinies like Bambicrony in them. The baseball card holders would have to be soft plastic, of course, or you'd have a heck of a time getting the clothes in and out of them.

As for my tiny clothes, I just have the outfits for my Puki and my Souldoll Little stored in small plastic boxes I picked up in the dollar store (one for each doll). Keeps everything together and I haven't had any trouble with losing pieces to outfits. I put their shoes in little snack baggies, so they don't get lost, either.

The clothes, shoes, and wigs for my Bambicrony girls (for my MSD and SD sized, as well) I keep in plastic sandwich or freezer bags, and I keep their wigs in the wig nets they come with. I have a couple of plastic drawer bins on wheels and keep everything in there, where it's nice and organized.

    3. My teenie tiny kid is spoiled...he uses a jewelry box as his dresser/closet....I hang the hanging stuff up and the others get folded into drawers and a lil space for shoes...the bigger tinies get theirs ziplocked up and tossed into a drawer with the other clothing.

    4. recently I had them in a large Cosmetic case
now I have 2 plastic organizer boxs and
one with various compartments for shoes and another one for outfits ,
Im getting a couple more so I can separate the very tiny clothes from the Yo size clothes
      and my Moona clothes

    5. I got this small 3-piece box set from ikea. They are 6x2.5x3" with flip/snap shut lids and they are stackable. I'm going to get some more sets in other colours when I get a chance to go back. online

Right now 1 puki and her clothes are in one, another puki and her clothes are in the other, and all my lati yellow clothes, shoes and re-ment in the third.

When I acquire more clothes and stuffs, I'll re-organize and store all these small boxes within a larger box. ^___^

    6. hmm... I have a Tiny treasures book that shows you how to make Hangers. xD
But anyways.. I have a plastic bag of all my puki-tastic clothing. Oh yes I know.
      Im so organized. :sweat.

    7. Any outfits that have parts are kept in a ziploc bag, usually with a hole punch to let air air in; shoes are kept in tiny baggies, then one big baggie; other outfits are just lose; wigs are kept in tiny nets and then a baggie; all of that is kept in a hinged rubbermaid box. The little ones don't have NEAR the quantity of stuff the bigger girls do, so it works for now.

    8. I have tiny stuff in plastic boxes that I bought from Big Lots (discount store, for those outside the US), but I have so much of it that it is taking up a lot of space in my bedroom. I'm going out of town for a week soon and after I get back, I am doing a huge clean-out in my den so that I will have room for dollhouses and all this other doll stuff. I also need a space to set up my ag minis so I can get to them to take photos. Sometimes I think I should just rent office space somewhere and keep all my doll stuff set up. I could just go over there when I want to play without them taking over my whole house. lol

    9. See? I knew you all would help me! I don't know why my mind is so limited when the answers are there in front of me. What I just learned:

      1. a notebook would be limiting on size and quantity of clothing plus it wouldn't hold shoes or other such accessories
      2. I'm bound to get a lot more clothing for the dolls, and I should incorporate my other doll collections and their clothing into a neat system. So I really need to think bigger
      3. I can get plastic boxes for cheap if I look around enough, and maybe, with the boxes, the plastic sandwich bag approach may work better for me then (they slip and slide and get mixed up too much right now) If the boxes are cheap enough, I could get one for each doll (or type of doll), so that I at least will know which collection I'm going through!

Well, thank you all again. I do feel like I have a direction to plan in now :)

EDIT: OMG, I just realized that I had bought these plastic tower drawers for my two eldest kids years ago, but they never really used them, they're almost unused in my youngest's room (because that's what older sibs put things when they don't want them anymore, LOL and the young ones don't know they could throw it out, hee hee hee) Anyway, I'm snatching them up! No money spent! Having just cleaned up my bedroom, I even have room for them! Tada!

    10. I use fishing lure boxes from Walmart for shoes and wigs for the wee ones (similar to the ones for embroidery floss). The slots are just the right size for BC/Yo shoes. I have clothing divided by size, then placed into large Spacemaker pencil boxes that fit into most shoe cubbies (about twice as tall as normal pencil boxes for school, but the same width/length). So far it's worked well.

    11. PICS! Show us what you did!

    12. as you can see in the pic below, I transformed an old make-up case into a room, and behind the curtain there is a wood skewer used as a rod; I made a wire hanger for each outfit, which is then covered in plastic wrap; I also made a long box below, that houses smaller boxes, made in origami, for the shoes; in the ottoman, under the Tv, I put the accessories, glasses, eyeglasses, cigs, etc. All the wigs used to be in the case, but now they are too numerous, so the are in a different box ...

    13. LOL Gracia, that's great!

I haven't done anything yet, just know now what I will do :)

    14. I think you've seen my storage boxes. They are like drawers inside a box. See the shelves above the 'stage'. I also have other boxes under my large stage for the dollhouse things. I could be more organised, but this will do for now. I forgot to mention, that the clear glass jars on the left, hold barbie shoes in colours for Berri. She has far too many things! LOL, but then she is a model.

Sounds as though you've found the solution. Look forward to seeing what you've done.

    15. Very inspiring, Gracia and Valli. I love seeing where you keep your dolls.

    16. i have three of these boxes from ikea:
      http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/10073345

i keep all my tiny wigs, shoes, eyes and clothing in there in ziploc bags and also my pullip stuff. they are soon full though so i need to get some more soon!
they are great because they come with dividers so you can make the compartments as big as you want. :)

      edit september 2008:
i went back to ikea to get some more of these boxes and suddenly they didn't carry it anymore, ikea still carries it but not my local ikea, and it can't be ordered online either. should have bought more back when i bought the first ones. hopefully i'll be able to stop by another ikea sometime.

    17. The plastic drawer set that my kids have are like Talis' at the end (the tall one) and if I use that much space, I won't mind the sanwich bags I guess. They were being too fluffy and taking up too much space in the box I got as my doll carrier. This will be good storage, and it's on weels, LOL

Valli, I love the way your desk has storage space above and a "stage" for your dolls! It has perfect lighting under the shelf for the stage too! That's soooo cool! I don't think that'd be easy to beat!

EXCEPT maybe the compact world of Gracia's Banji. One must admit, it's a dang cute room and to even have a starlet's closet in there, pretty amazing, LOL!

    18. I really liked Gracia's solution, too.

    19. So no one actully owns a doll sized free standing closet? with hangers and what not? I've been thinking of buying one for my girls many dresses, but seeing as no one uses them, is there a particular reason? are they not big enough, or somply to hard to find/expensive?

    20. They aren't big enough for all the things I have. I can store so much stuff in my boxes. I have them separated into tops, bottoms, dresses and lingerie. It would be lovely to see them all hanging, but I just prefer to rummage in the drawer. *grin*

If that's what you want, go for it. We all have our own solutions.
