La Legende de Temps - Ahaz

Mar 2, 2013

    1. Looks like she's working on another head which isn't exactly a variant on Ludwig, but I find him rather more appealing in his sourness. I can't find any reference to these photos in Julia's blog, but she posts stuff so randomly.
Here's a link to the Russian BJDs news post about Ahaz:
      http://llsonya.diary.ru/p185875522.htm?oam#more1

Since I have no great desire to buy a whole doll, I'd totally go for this guy as a head instead of Ludwig if it becomes an option! I love being spoiled for choice...between a bunch of dolls that aren't available. ;)
I'm not at all bothered that she's been working on heads as well as the body. It's probably confidence boosting to rough out another awesome face while dealing with the frustration of making a body for the first time, expecially when the body has to live up to those faces!

    2. Interesting ... with the high forehead, narrower nose and face, and distinctively shaped brow line, he (Ahaz?) looks like Julia's interpretation of Tom Hiddleston to me, haha. She is, after all, quite fond of his role as Loki in the Marvel films. The lips seem to still have a bit of Ludwig in them, but otherwise ... hmm ...

    3. Well, I'm afraid that would make me like Ahaz less because I've never understood the attraction to Hiddleston, but fortunately I'm not seeing too much resemblance! And why would she specify that he was Arab in that case? He does make Ludwig look positively stocky in comparison.
I expect there will always be a little bit of the faces she paints in the faces she sculpts, but she only seems to go as far as a specific caricature in her personal dolls like Benedict.

    4. Fair enough! You make some good points. It was just a first impression on my end (and now that I look again, only from one particular angle), and I'm not an especial Tom Hiddleston fan either (though I do like and respect him plenty as an actor). The name choice of Ahaz is certainly an interesting one, though I'm not sure about Julia's intent in terms of ethnicity, if any. (Unless I missed some additional information about the head?) At any rate, I think Ahaz is a very attractive sculpt, and reflects Julia's typical exceptional caliber of work. With that said, barring any more significant tweaks, I think I still like Ludwig a bit more ... so it may be time for me to settle down for another year of waiting, haha.

Also, thank you for the Weibo link! There are some great photos of her gorgeous Edria that I hadn't seen before, too.

    5. She identifies him as an Arab character in her blog post, though it's hard to tell what else is being said through the wrecking ball that is Google.

I'm still in no hurry for Julia to release anything this spring due to lack of funds, but it's heartening to know she's still able to work!

    6. He is another interesting fellow (wonder what happened to Lapis?). I do like her strong facial features. And I love the "natural" face up she's worked out, though so far it doesn't sound like it'd be a regular offering. Still, there's a reason other doll artists have version 2 and 3 of their bodies. You can always make it better given enough time. At some point, just release the best you can make right now. You can run your hobby as a business, or your business as a hobby. The latter doesn't tend to last long.

I'm beyond broke right now, but so help me if Ludwig or Black came out this spring/summer I'd find the money.

    7. Ok ... OK! I guess I'll just go on saving up more money so I'll have some spare money after Ludwig to get that Ahaz head, if she releases it. And/or Pearl, if she releases that one. Good thing I was so adamant about saving up money. And that I didn't get anything "big" for my 35th birthday last year. That way, whenever she releases Ludwig (and/or any new heads), I can always go "oh, it's for my 35th birthday - I know that was some time ago but it wasn't finished, then, sooooo ..." *gg*

    8. Ah, I see. Thanks for clarifying!

    9. I'm loving Ahaz so much I really hope he gets be cast :fangirl:

    10. Julia has stated that Ahaz is planned for release in 2014. Since he is not intended for the body she's working on, there is a good chance that this will actually happen. :)

    11. Thank you St.James :) I'll be watching and waiting for Ahaz's release.

    12. Ahaz more up on her flickr! I am absolutely dying for this head.

    13. Holy ... o.O Bye, Ludwig, I think I'm getting Ahaz instead!

    14. Whooooooa could it be happening at last?! :D

I also notice that the, er, Resin Modesty Leaf is also on her instagram, with her comment "For the body ;)". I hope that means she's going to include it with the doll because that would totally make my day.

I hope it's attached by magnet. O mighty Ahaz, he of the mighty magnetized loins! The attraction is irresistible (especially if you're a fairly small object made of metal).

I'm trying to rein in my excitement as I recall plans for release being delayed quite a few times before, and besides I'm guessing his price will be pretty high.

If it really happens this May though, I may be tempted. Julia is so talented, and I think this is her best work to date.

    15. Yeah, who knows what he will cost, though they have been consistent about saying layaway will be available.
Hypothetical release dates almost don't merit a mention anymore, but I like seeing new pictures of him. :3

    16. Oh, I SO hope for layaway!!! Ahaz as a whole doll? That's the one variable I did NOT see coming. *frantically looks around* I'll need more space. Much, MUCH more space ... *mutters under her breath* Of course, once I decide I don't want Ludwig all THAT much anymore and just buy Ahaz's head and go and get that second SD16 body, Ahaz is released as a full doll ...

    17. Julia just confirmed that it will be the same body for both guys and he'll be available in FOUR skin tones. :aeyepop:

    18. A tan Ahaz would be amazing!

Oh no I may have to change my plans. I had just about decided I wanted to save up for a Dia/F65 boy hybrid, but if tan Ahaz is a thing... on that gorgeous body...

I really hope she will show pictures of Ahaz with a faceup soon! And pictures of the body posing. I have a feeling I'm not going to like how the knees look when fully extended (I'm not a fan of the hard-edged segmented look; I like joints as rounded as possible). But on the other hand that's a puny quibble in light of the brilliant sculpture here. Detailed, but not too veiny or with made-up muscle groups; muscular, but not clunky; what a beautiful, powerful flow this body has. Perfect balance.
