Long term dolly goals.

Nov 3, 2023

    1. Is anyone else thinking into the future regarding their collectiom? Beyond paying off a current layaway. I mean, like, planning the next, next doll.

Cuz I am lol I have this idea to turn a floating minifee Dina head into a boy on a motion line body. But not anytime soon. I'm thinking . . . 2025 :sweat See my reason is I have so many other projects to complete, bjd and other hobby related.

Then I'm also thinking of dabbling in hybrids. I have this idea of a Doll Zone Milky Tea head in a Xaga 28cm heart body. But I doubt I'd buy her until at least 2024. I'm waiting on my instock DZ Honey to arrive so I can get a feel for her stylized proportions. If I love her, Milky Tea might be my next purchase. :evilplot:

But then also I've been eyeing a Huajing Tian Ni. I just think she is so darn cute! But I'll wait until my Emilia fullset arrives. Not sure when that'll be but I'm guesing sometime in Spring of 2024?

Lastly, I decided to put money aside in case I stumble upon my grail. I feel like that will just sit there waiting a looong while lol

I feel I'm getting a little carried away haha But it's nice to have plans and budget right? :chomp:

    2. I've honestly been doing the same thing! My imagination keeps running wild with all the things I want to do! Some of my plans are doable, others are more dreams I'd like to fulfill years down the line.

One of my more doable goals is building my dream hybrid elf girl! I already have the head, a Dollmore Fashion Misia, which I need to mod elf ears on at some point. For the body, I'm also interested in Xaga Doll, specifically the X-F-43C body. Then I need extras like heel feet. I'd also like to get the Doll Chateau jointed hands. Then, depending how all that goes, I may need to do a full dye job. Then, I can actually start customizing her :sweat Now that I write it all down, it does seem like quite a process... but doable, I think? :XD:

Then, I have another boy to shell... still holding onto hope that I'll get my Dollshe Saint one day to make that happen, but I know it's probably unlikely. I found a seller on Etsy who can 3D model and cast a minimee of the actual character I'm shelling, so that's probably what I'll do instead. As for the body, I really like a muscled body sculpt from Miracle Doll, but I'm hearing the wait for Miracle Doll is potentially as bad as Dollshe, soo... yeah :sweat

Finally, I'd like to sculpt my own doll in the image of my OC in game I play. I can dream :XD:

At the moment I have no funds anyways so all these plans have to wait, but I have plenty of customization work to keep me busy with the two boys I do have until then :chibi

    3. Well we're completely out of doll space, AND about to lose some of the existing doll space to a large "fmily piece" of furniture that my husband has inherited, so trying to figure something out about that is a priority among my dolly goals at the moment. Fortunately, two friends came up with what looks to be a workable space for some of the displaced dolls, and others (from other places around the house) may fit there too, allowing a reorganisation of the existing dolly displays to better fit the rest of the displaced ones... although I have also identified a list of potential outgoing dolls who have ben neglecteed enough in the last few years that moving them along to more appreciative homes wuld probably be a good idea (as well as swelling the dolly fund coffers, and freeing up more space)

Having said that, I foolishly took on a layaway for a new doll at the UKBJD convention last month and while SD height, she's a plus sized girl who will need her own wardrobe as she won't be ablte to share (except hats and shoes) with any of my exiting dolls, sewing is the only option for this girls, so that's another goal, but I can't do that until she arrives. And, of course, she will need her own space in the already overcrowded house once she arives.

Other than that, my ongoing long term goal for many years is to get the full wardrobe of clothing together for each of my exiting dolls. Whihc involves both finishign existing sewing projects and probably taking on new ones to fill the gap since the right styles/sizes/fabrics/colours etc. are few and far between for buying their clothes. I REALLY need to work on tuff for the bys in particular, or save up and commission more for them, since I don't get as much enjoyment from sewing for the boys as I do for the girls, so they get left until last (A.K.A: not-got around to at all) and are the hardest to fidn ready made stuff for so are currently very much the "poor-relations" in the family when it comes to wardrobe options.

AND I need to get over my reluctance to spend out on footwear for them. Having had a huge number of faux leather boots and shoes crumble, deteriorate and fall part, I'm reluctant to waste money on replacements that might do the same in a few years, but there are few-to-no places that make the right styles in actual leather, so while it i a long term dolly goal, I'm a bit stumped as to how to resolve it.

    4. @Teddy Finding the right footwear is such a challenge isn't it? I feel the same way about the synthetic leather. A doll jacket I spent so much effort making a few years back began to disintegrate this year and I was heartbroken over it. I'm never purchasing or making anything with synthetic leather again!

    5. @Sanar It really is very offputting - I see some lovely dolly footwear on the market, but I'm so reluctant to buy if it's any form of faux leather, even though some I bought in the past have held up fine, there's just no way of telling in advance whether it will last or fall apart.

    6. Ahh my wishlist is a bit..... long..... er....:aeyepop: I have plans but no funds yet lol. These are the dolls I am planning for next year and (far) beyond: my first SD girl will be a Withdoll Vera. Already decided on skin and faceup, she'll be similar to the default store look, with completely different clothes and wig. I'll only be able to order her in about 5 months from now though, with a very long layaway, so I'll only see her in 2025.

I also want a event minifee (them pretty elves are my grails), and I might just never get one. I just have a hard time buying outside of long layaways, so I'll have to plan and save up for a long time and hope I find one. So I can only see one in my far future, if that makes sense.

I also want a DZ Antu fullset one day. But not sure when. And a Withdoll Ruby.
But I keep leaving those for later cause I'm always eyeing new limited fantasy releases and second-hand market for pretty heads :sweat And I really really want a Soom Rudy but I think it'll be difficult to find and pay for (for me) for quite some time.

Aside from new dolls I also want to learn to sew for them xD I started a dress a couple of years ago (before pandemic) that I need to finish.

    7. I never had goals of getting more resin BJD, I did set a limit back when I discovered these around 2003. However, my goal was never to own more or even reach my limit. Which I thankfully never did, and seriously don't believe I will.

I do however, have had future goals from the very beginning, of completing the dolls I already own ( not just these but also OT ones and action figures). However, that goal seems to be an unreachable goal for me, as I am a bit nitpicky about a lot of things and no longer willing to buy certain things.

I don't believe I will ever complete most of my dolls/figures, but I want to keep trying. For most of the resin BJD, it's been more than twenty years waiting for me to complete them. In my defense though, I (am a hoarder and) keep adding new projects to my never ending list of fan-art custom dolls/figures I want to customize. Because most are based on Japanese licenses, they are kind of a pain to get just right (fooling no one, I know!). DX

    8. No more doll buying planned, but between now and the end of next year, I’d like to get the current lot presentable with plenty of wardrobe options, and maybe take the little one to Tenshi No Sato :)

    9. @ashiya Sewing is such a fun skill to have! I hope you can finish the dress one day :cheer

@Enzyme I, too, am on my own personal quest to recreate specific characters in doll form! I wish you continued luck on your quest! :cheer It can be hard to maintain focus with so many projects. With any luck, both my boys will be 'completed' in the following year... but I keep creating more projects for myself (like fun, alternate outfits) instead of focusing on the things they need, like eyes and wig :XD: I have a ventilated wig in progress that I haven't worked on since I started it :abambi: I did make some eyes a while ago but they don't look... right, with my doll now that his faceup is completed. For now, perma-closed eyes and bald doll he be :XD: Maybe I should make a simpler wig for him to wear temporarily just so that he isn't bald for every photo :sweat

    10. I have one more body I absolutely need, but my financial situation has deteriorated significantly in the last half a year, so I'll wait on that. He will be the last in my set of fantasy RPG characters I've shelled. I am looking at actually selling a couple of dolls who don't fit into any of the groups that have evolved. And I have tons of dolly sewing, wig-making and cobbling to do, so I'll be plenty busy.

    11. just a huge (and growing :doh)wish list of dolls and my next doll is basically dependent on whenever my monies and the availability of my wish list dolls line up. (and also of course taking into consideration of my time & energy & space. Im running out of space for my dolls ahhhhhh!!!)

    12. I think my plan in regards to my collection is two fold.

      1) I want to buy all the dolls that I wished I could own when I was younger and did not have the option to do so. This is mostly older/rare models (at this point) that I loved from afar circa 2006-2012.
      2) Purchase back some of the doll molds that I owned when I was younger but had to sell to get out of an abusive household. A complicated story but I regret on so many levels giving up my collection. But at the time it was necessary and worth it.

I dont know if that makes sense for some. But for me that is where I am at for what I want to do going forward. Sure, there will be newer models that I fall in love with and have to have. But I want to let my inner child have the things that they could not. Which is why I got back into the hobby in the first place after a 10+ year hiatus.

    13. My imagination also runs wild! I have so many ideas for characters and their outfits. I literally had a hard time falling asleep last night cuz my head waa buzzing with ideas *_*:whee:

But I say go for your big project!! I've unstring and dyed 5 dolls. Mostly tinies bit one minifee as well, us their extra hands. It's so much fun! I have an eye mod plan for one of my dolls. I just have to buy a metal file tool. And DC hands are so lovely! It's one of my fav things about my DC girl :chibi

    14. @lully.lullers Yeshh! :whee: I had the same thing happen last night :XD: I be a tad sleep deprived today~

Oh wow! I'll be asking you for advice on how to dye when I get there :thumbup Already can't wait! :whee: And yes, the DC hands are so beautiful! I'd love to see photos of your dolls with them!

    15. Well at some point I'd like to buy Volks Reisner the Scarface, although that may be far, far off in the future. For the more immediate future, I'm planning on getting 3 outfits for each of my dolls. Having finally figured out each doll's individual style, I know what I'm looking for. Two dolls already have 3 outfits, so I'm only on the lookout for a few outfits. So far the most difficult has been looking for dresses for my Soom Mylo, because I am SO UNBELIEVABLY PICKY about dresses. This is why she's the only doll that only has one outfit right now. The other doll goals I have is to get a wig I like for my Migidoll Ryu and a pair of urethane eyes for my Migidoll Mu. The last two are probably the most complicated, because I don't know what style of wig or what color eyes I want. I'm probably going to have to do some experimenting, which is going to be annoyingly pricey. At least I can just get cheap glass eyes to figure out what color I want.

    16. Sorry, I typed a message to someone here by accident

    17. I have plans to complete my "sets" of OCs, most are pairs but one is a group of 7 SDs. I have 2 from that group already complete, one head in possession, and one head on order. I'm sorting out what order to acquire them in but that mostly depends on available money and sales. I am trying to finish the SD group before anything else but it gets hard when I find a sculpt or body I really like. I recently put LS Little Jiao Mu on my buy list, he is adorable, and Fatemoon's new genderless body I want for one of my dolls. I am trying to focus on the 2 dolls, 2 bodies, and 1 head I need to acquire (the head is floating because I have his twin and will maybe get a whole other body eventually).

After, Maker willing, I finish the SD group I have 3 MSDs I want to get; 2 Withdolls, Kyle and Theo, and a Luts MDF Raven. Then I need a Souldoll Jacob head to replace a doll whose head I don't care for; after which I will get a Souldoll Saka. I have no expectations that everything will happen in this order, but hopefully I just get most the dolls acquired in the next couple of years; then spend forever making outfits for them. I won't get into the all the auxiliary things I'll want to acquire for my dolls but I do plan on getting a resin 3d printer to make accessories and props.

    18. I'm going to be selling a doll, a body and some heads soon, so my plans involve wiping faceups, unstringing bodies, cleaning them, and restringing with fresh elastic where applicable. I'm also expecting a Birdcube Fuguir head sometime soon and need to pick out a girl body and a wardrobe for said doll - hopefully with funds from the sales. And get her a cute girlfriend. I'll also need to modify/buy hands for my newest boy because he's supposed to have four-fingered hands instead of five-fingered hands. Unfortunately, these plans will have to wait until I get a bit more free time in my schedule. :sweat

    19. My long time plan is to not buy more dolls... or at least not many more in the coming years :abambi: (who am I kidding, I know I'll slip). I think I've been collecting a little too fast this year and need to slow down given the space I don't really have and how money needs to also go into other things. I'm pretty content with the number I have, anyway.

I do plan on getting really good at making clothes and other crafts for them, though, that's definitely a lot of work without more dolls coming in anyway :sweat

    20. For me, buying/completing dolls and their appearances are my short-term/mid-term goals. My doll buying goals are to receive my outstanding doll preorders (I have a body and a full doll on the way), buy a body for my final floating head, and complete their appearances. Not to say that I'll never buy more new dolls (I learned to never say 'never' in this hobby), but being tempted is not a goal, and right now I'm quite contented with the dolls I have/am getting.

My long term goals are all to do with my existing crew. I currently have two...

One long term goal is to dress my dolls in 'alternate universe' themes. I like having my whole crew wearing the same kind of clothing 'theme' at the same time, and I think a lot about what kinds of colours, styles, fashions, etc, each doll will wear within that theme. Currently I have a kimono theme and a casual modern theme for them. My next 'theme' is smart business suits, which I've started buying - I don't have ability to sew tailored clothes right now but I hope to achieve that level of skill one day. The bigger 'theme' is cyberpunk - I've worldbuilt a whole cyberpunk AU for my doll characters to live in, and I've planned their outfits already which are all quite specific to each character. I'm going to slowly accumulate all these clothing pieces, either by buying or sewing. I'm a sewing newbie and one of my aims is to sew as many of those cyberpunk pieces as I can instead of buy. It's gonna take a while for me to skill up, but that's why it's a long term plan. I'm sure I'll come up with other fashion 'themes', in which case, it'll be a project to dress my whole crew in that theme.

The other long term goal is what I call the 'flight studio'. I love taking pics of my dolls, and I've always had a dream of them doing action and fighting scenes, especially of the wuxia/martial arts type that I watch in East Asian cinema. (in other words, I want my dolls to fly.) I did very, very early prototyping of a stand/photography setup and it has potential, but I want to figure out how to implement it reliably to take photoshoots. I have no set building or construction skills, so I think it'll take me a while to set up. I wanted to start on the flight studio this year but got busy with other BJD goals, so it's gonna be a project for next year.
