1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Major differences between MSD and SD? Pros/Cons

Nov 3, 2013

    1. SD girls are so beautiful and realistic, but I'm afraid of the massive size! A lot of my flickr friends have SD's and they look like so much fun to pose and snuggle with :fangirl:
Are there any things you like or dislike about msds or sd's, especially Fairyland dolls in particular
      :)

    2. Not a big fun of Fairyland lately and I own only MSDs from them (so I can't really tell you opinion on their SDs).

Their poseability -although very natural- is quite limited, for example they can't slouch. My MSD boy can SLIGHTLY slouch and that looks super weird. My friend's girl won't slouch even if you bribe her or beg her. I really really dislike the "panty joint" as I call it (the lowest piece from their 3 piece torso) because it's 1) useless 2) looks ugly. The Moe-line didn't have one and that was awsome though~

What I do like about Fairyland dolls (which I think is the only thing they did right) is their magnetic hands (I believe only the Moe line has magnetic feet) The easy with which you can change hands -and they have a nice variety to choose from- and when you change clothes is just awsome.

Some people also like the head lock system thingy they have. I personally found it rather annoying and some people sometimes have been having problems with their event heads not fitting (I am not sure if this is the case for SDs though or if they even have that system because, like I said, I don't have SDs from Fairyland).

Generally speaking about SDs and MSDs though, I'd say SDs have more mature faces over the MSDs but I prefer the MSD as a size, because they are easier to pose, since they are lighter, and well...lighter LOL! I still have all kinds of dolls and you can start by MSD and go to SDs or the opposite too, so you can try both sizes and see which one you like best yourself.

    3. I got to hold a Delf Lishe one time and it made me really want one! In the end the only SD sized girls I have are Dollfie Dreams, though. I like the size and weight of SDs, but I find MSDs easier to hold and pose (and since they're smaller I can pose them at my computer desk). I have a Minifee, but she is a bit too small and thin to me compared to my other dolls.

One thing I really like about Fairyland dolls are the joints--they are the most aesthetically pleasing joints I've seen for the most part. The silhouette looks very natural, without chunky ball and socket interrupting the line. And they are good posers, although they can't pull their legs up to their chest, or bend a lot in the torso.

I prefer SD dolls for non-child dolls because the face sculpting looks more refined. MSDs, even when they are supposed to be mature, tend to look kind of childish or oddly proportioned. Plus there are just sooo many SD sculpt I love compared to MSDs.

That's just my input! I'd say, buy the sculpt you really love, whether its large or mini.

    4. I have 4 SDs of 71cms, 70cms, 65cms and 60cms and 2 MSDs of 45cms and 44cms.

      SD dolls:
Pros: Typically more detailed and mature looking clothing
      Easier to take photographs of
      More substantial
      Good for cuddling
      Usually more mature looking

      Cons:
      Heavy for smaller people
      Take up more space
      More expensive

      MSDs:
Pros: Light, easy to carry around
      Typically younger looking
      Less expensive
      Less expensive clothing
Easier to store, takes up less space

      Cons:
More difficult to find adult looking sculpts
      Less detailed clothing
      Less substantial
      More difficult to photograph

    5. Sd's are definitely a ball to pose and snuggle with, especially for various poses, like sitting them in your lap, standing them up, placing them on your shoulder, etc. Yeah, they're heavier, and they require more effort to pose, sure, but I'll take SD's over MSD's any day. I like SD's because they're generally easier to shop and sew for, and at the same time, they're more expressive with detail, their faces and bodies are sculpted better and so effortless to bond with. Plus, I think if SD's didn't exist, BJD's as a whole wouldn't stand out amongst other dolls much. What I don't like about MSD's are their proportions, since usually the heads are bulbous in ratio to the body. Fairyland is especially famous for this, and moreover, I'm not a fan of their MSD line with the heads looking childlike, yet their bodies look like they belong on muscle beaches and porn magazines. If these dolls are supposed to resemble children or preteens, why would the boys have six packs and the girls have boobs big enough to use as airplane pillows? I do, however, like their Chicline dolls, which is MSD scale, but they're built like fashion dolls, I'm not sure those are considered MSD though.

Personally I have never handled a Minifee before, but I hear they're similar to Kid Delfs, which I have seen and held. They pose fine, but I wasn't particularly impressed, though I'm pretty impartial to posability and I just don't care for MSD. I own a Feeple 65 doll, and while their arms pose great, they can't pose worth a shit, it's a chore getting them to sit upright, and getting them to stand is kinda bleh. I have a love hate relationship with the magnetic hands, it's great because you can make braces for them that fit well, but I can't tell you how many times my girl's hand will randomly pop off. Lastly, regarding Fairyland in general, I love the faces of their bigger dolls, but with as many as I've seen in person, or on here, they all [both SD and MSD] tend to look the same.
