1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Mensajero RnD dolls?

Jan 21, 2007

    1. I know that the RnD Angels are considered OT here because the mods decided they fell more along the lines of fashion dolls, but I just saw these new guys:

      http://www.rnddolls.com/mensajero.html

I think they're really cute, and will probably get one anyway, but I just wondered if they'd fit the criteria? Supposedly the RnD Angels are made of polyresin, so I figured these guys probably are, too, and they seem to fit the overall stylistic look of the BJDs here. They mention having removable wigs, too, but I'm not sure if the eyes are removable.

If there's already been a thread on this, I apologize, I really did do a thorough search :sweat Also sorry if I should have posted this somewhere else- they are mini-sized dolls so far as I can tell (16 inches)- maybe the same size as OD Tae.

    2. They are resin and bjd, with removable eyes and wigs.
For the money I love my Gabe, but I do agree they are more fashion-proportioned then traditional 43 cm scale.

    3. Kinda OT but: Mensajero means messenger xDDD

    4. just to let you guys know, we're discussing them (amoungst the mods) right now so we'll get back to you asap. :)

    5. I saw these in person at IFDC (I think?)... anyway, they look awesome! And I can't say enough nice things about the RnD guys. :-)

    6. Again, for the price, I feel I recieced a great small-scale doll.

He is not extremely posable, but does look great sitting in a chair or on a motorcycle.

I think for those who are used to a higher quality (and more expensive) doll, you may be disappointed. But I also know you can't get the same doll at 150.00 that you can at 250.00

His hands are a bit stiff to pose, the wrist joint doesn't rotate smoothly, his feet are fine however.

If I could ever figure how how to embed a picture here and we get the okay, I will post some.

    7. When you say that he's not as high quality--it it because of the posability, or is he more fragile? I'm very curious--they are definitly cute little guys.

    8. He's NOT more fragile, he's not as nicely finished, I guess is what I am saying. but even that statement is stronger then I really mean.

Obviously his backside. I had this shot in the archives, but can take more tomorrow if interested.

See, it is a nice body..:>

    9. BTW, the mods have conferred (I'm picturing us all sitting around at a table in a darkened room, speaking in reverent murmurs, hehe!) . . . and the Mensajero dolls are permitted on DoA, since they fit all the criteria (most importantly, they're "ABJD style," as opposed to the RnD Angels, which are fashion-doll style despite fitting many of the criteria.)

These are very neat dolls, I look forward to seeing more of them -- and I agree, they'd look especially great with the Orientdoll 1/6 dolls!

      -- Andi :>

    10. I think that's great that they're allowed, but I still don't understand why the Angels are not. *scratches head in bewilderment* These dolls are very similar - just male and female. My Angels sit with my Tae, and so will the boy if I get him. What makes one BJDish and one not? They both look "fashionable" or "not", depending on how they're dressed and posed and what character they have. I don't see a distinction and wish someone could explain it. Thanks!

    11. I'm not a mod, so I can't say for sure, but It hink these boys fit the bjd aesthetic more then the girls. They are slim, quite youthful/ adroynous looking and have long wigs as their defaults, something i've always seen as a abjd thing then fashion doll thing.

Whereas the girls have small eyes, a fashion doll shaped body, etc. and generally don't fit with the style of most female abjds

    12. First, a dressed shot in a chair. Currently he cannot stand unassisted and I have not tried re-stringing or fixing his knee. (Explained below.)

Next, here is the nude boy:

Here's the knee issue. It appears that the upper leg on his right side was too long and not trimmed back. It does keep the leg from setting properly to stand. I know it's a minor adjustment on my part and I have not informed RnD.

Here's the good knee, and next the 'bad' knee
      [IMG]

      And now his measurements"

Head: 13 1/2 cm or 5 1/2 inches, but he wears a 4-5 wig. size 5 is a little loose.

Chest: 17 cm or 6.5 inches

Waist: 13.2 cm or 5 inches

Hips: 17 cm or 6.5 inches

      Inseam: 17 1/2 cm or 6 5/8 inches

Across Back: 7 cm or 2 3/4 inches

Let it just be said that I really do enjoy him, wish I could find shoes that truly fit, love the details to his body and am surprised at his weight every time I pick him up.

And as of yet, I haven't found (but I really haven't looked) clothes or shoes to really fit well.

Yes, you can change eyes and his headcap is held on by elastic and hook.

    13. Thanks for responding! But I can only say that "aethetics" can apply to any BJD. Lishe can look like a fashion model. So can Hound! And aesthetics shouldn't be the deciding point on this. The boy and girl Angels are the same in how they are jointed and they pose similarly. The boys eyes look the same as the girls, to me, and they even have the same little smile! Wigs can be changed on any BJD. This whole "fashion" thing doesn't make sense to me...but then it never did. And so, deciding that the boy doll is ok as a BJD really seems odd to me, when the girl isn't ok. My Angels aren't runway models...they are characters with faces and names, and they wear clothing. How does that make them a model? I don't know...it's just bewildering...

    14. Good news that he's allowed- a cute little Tae size guy!

StephG- I think you can sorta see the difference in the sculpt intention. What I meant to say is, you can see the inspiration.

While it's true that Lishe can look fashiony but that's not how she was intended, she was intended as a BJD

The Angels have the small eyes and other features which are in keeping with the BJFD style.

I can't remember for sure, but aren't the Angels sold as BJFD? If I'm right, that puts them very firmly off topic.

    15. Re: "I think you can sorta see the difference in the sculpt intention. What I meant to say is, you can see the inspiration." You know, I really don't, and wish I did, see the difference. Actually, I'm not sure what you mean by sculpt intention. To me they're the same doll, just male and female - their faces are remarkably similar. Am I the only one to see this? And I believe that any BJD can be a fashion doll, actually. I wouldn't care so much, except it doesn't seem right that the male is considered acceptable as a BJD and the female isn't... Perhaps this is a gender-profiling issue? Because she's female, she's a "fashion doll"? Not sure...

    16. I can see what you mean, personally I think that the Angels are close enough to ABJD that they could be allowed, but I can also understand why the mods might decided to allow the Mensajero and not the Angels. Their faces are similar, but in abjd the female sculpts generally have bigger eyes then the male sculpts, like in anime... Whilist in fashion dolls, the male is usally very different looking to the female with a strong jaw line etc, not like this... They don't seem to be intended as the male version of the Angels, they are part of their own line with a different name, and are listed seperatley on the site. Obviously, it's a very difficult thing for the mods to judge. I'm not sure what I would do if I was in the same situation.

    17. Steph, it was a close vote -- the body and face style of the RnD Angels are more "fashion doll cast in resin," whereas the Mensajero dolls appeared to be more like Volks and Obitsu 1/6 dolls, cast in resin as ABJDs.

Also, initially, the RnD Angels didn't have interchangeable eyes, which are a criterion for DoA inclusion.

    18. I posted about this weeks ago and told me that I'm OT. since I found this thread it kinda confuses why other mods didn't know aobut this. my thread was deleted. I'm glad that mensajero is already accepted on this forum.

here are some of the pics I took:

    19. In light of further consideration, these dolls have been ruled off topic for DoA. We apologize for any confusion. However, in fairness to the criteria we hold our forum to, we cannot allow a misjudgment in the past to overshadow the fact that the dolls should not have been here in the first place.

These dolls are off topic for several reasons, the most pressing being that they are indeed fashion dolls, intended not for customization but to display clothing. The bodies reflect the lower level of detail and range of mobility that we expect from dolls created in this genre.

Again, we apologize for any confusion or disappointment, but thank you for understanding our ruling on this matter. This decision is final and is not up for debate.
