Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Most Beautiful Body

May 20, 2013

    1. What companies would you say have the most beautiful bodies?

Sometimes I am blown away by the beauty of a body sculpt (the weight, the quality of the resin, the color etc) other times, the body sculpt seems more rushed (the joints are clunky, the resin is plasticky etc).

So I ask you, what companies do you think make the most high quality, breath taking bodies?

      xx

    2. I would say as far as bodies go, Twigling and Doll Chateau bodies are the most beautiful (to me). They both combine beautiful shapes and poseablity/function. Twigling totalley gets that in a doll. I'm also quite fond of Dollshe's auskly love body. The detail is lovely...

    3. I really like the Musedoll boy bodies.

    4. i love the bodies from soom <3 when it comes to guys they really know how to make them nice! <3 for girl's bodies i must say i love iplehouse

    5. I've owned a good number of dolls at one point, from various leading companies. So from my experience the pros and cons of some of those BJD companies are described below - [these descriptions are solely based on my experience with certain sculpts from each of these companies, dolls and their specific qualities can vary from batch to batch, so please do not quote me on this]

Volks - very realistic, aesthetically pleasing, heads are generally a bit larger (proportionally) than the bodies, very high quality solid resin
Peak's Woods - one of the best quality resins with a pretty pinkish hue to their NS, aesthetically beautiful, joints are great, gorgeous surface
Fairyland - great posers, ok resin quality (possibility of sand marks on the surface), joints are excellent, realistic bodies
Soom - good resin quality though not very solid, great pose ability, quite realistic, joints work great, smooth surface
Luts - good quality resin - not too heavy, poses great, joints are nice, moderately realistic, smooth surface
Blue Fairy - beautiful resin silky smooth to the touch, single jointed body poses very nicely, high quality overall
Dollzone - best pose ability I've ever seen with a double jointed body, though bodies are not as realistic, joints work great, pretty resin colours, not very solid or heavy but has silky smooth surface
Doll Leaves - very good pose ability with the double jointed body, WS tends to yellow quite fast, great price, lightweight resin, not very realistic, joints can shift sometimes during posing
Bobobie/Resinsoul - excellent price for the beginners, ok resin quality, lightweight, not very realistic, joints can be clunky

    6. I have to say Dollstown and Iplehouse. Only the newer, less He-Man looking bodies for Iplehouse. Also Supia makes nice bodies.

    7. Volks sd16 body, souldoll zenith, soom, fairyland.

    8. Granado nuevo male body is exactly what i was looking for. There are muscles, but not super definition. . . they have bulk w/o looking over the top hulkish. There sculpts look masculine instead of androgynous

    9. I'm seconding dollstown. Very graceful, realistic bodies. Ariadoll bodies were really lovely too.

    10. For myself, I think the Shinydoll body is the most incredible. It is perfectly balanced and engineered, and is so graceful. I can plop one of my dolls with this body down any which way, and they always look so languid and nice. Also I find this the most "cuddly " body, it's wonderful to hold.
Even though there is stylization on this body, it is the most natural looking one to me.

    11. I love the feel of Custom House and Volks resin.
As for form I love the DOT sculpts.

    12. I've handled loads of dolls, and I'd say these were the companies' dolls that most impressed me:

Volks, for their beautiful sculpting and amazing quality resin. The posing is great too if you enjoy locking joints (and oh, does Volks seem to love securely locking joints for some lines, which can be a blessing or curse depending on your preference).

Shinydoll, for their cute little bodies and unmatched posing ability -- they don't just have a good range of motion, they pose easily and naturally. Excellent weighty resin too.

Fairyland, for their well engineered bodies with such expressive posing and elegant hands (the magnets and the neck system are the icing on the cake). The resin isn't amazing or anything, but nor does it seem cheap.

And Souldoll, for their well designed yet not overly complicated joints and their nicely detailed sculpts. I thought some of their older knees were ugly, but when I handled a doll with them and realized how well the doll could kneel and how easy and smooth the joint was to use, I forgave this. xD

There are other good ones too, those are just my favorite bodies. I'm pretty picky though. :sweat

    13. Hmm fascinating to hear all the different opinions. Guess I'll give a few of myself:
I feel like Crobi doll would make excellent bodies, the head that I own is a lovely quality.

Love Oceanmoon for their weighty, old doll feel resin.

Luts bodies are very graceful, but I'm not a fan of the resin.

I love hearing what people think of the smaller companies I'm not familiar with.

    14. I'm chiming in with Angell Studio. I LOVE their bodies. They pose well, and look real too <3 and, their body blushing and faceups are to die for!

    15. I.O.S. 80, Volks SDGou, SOOM Idealian, Ringdoll Grown.

    16. I'm quite picky about doll bodies, especially with joint engineering. Joints have to look good and realistic, not just hold a pose well. I'd rather have a single-jointed body with tasteful looking joints and poses realistically, than a double-jointed body with awkward engineering and unrealistic posing, even if it has a wider range.

I adore Dollstown bodies, especially the (now discontinued) 15-year line. They may be single jointed, but the sculpting is so subtle and realistic. Limbs aren't mere cylinders, but have quite realistic muscle tone and definition; the bodies are idealized but not exaggerated; they stand very well, and are capable of quite realistic poses. I don't like voluptuous women and musclemen, so the more youthful yet healthy 15-year bodies completely fit the bill for me. And DT resin is heavy and substantial -- I love the weight in my arms, and I'm now quite spoiled because any less heavy body seems inferior to me!
And don't get me on how beautiful the head sculpts are... :XD:

I also like Volks bodies, which are a lot like Dollstown's -- heavy resin, subtle and realistic body sculpting, but in a different aesthetic.
And Shinydoll girls, they have some of the most versatile and graceful body sculpting I've encountered. I've been pining to own a Shinydoll for a long time... one day!

    17. To me Iplehouse has the most aesthetically pleasing bodies of them all. This from a viewers point of view as I have yet to own an Iplehouse myself.

    18. For boy dolls: Little Monica, Volks SDGr, Iplehouse, and Dollstown 18yrs are my top choices. For girl dolls: Fairyland Feeple65, Iplehouse nYID, Angell-Studio (double-jointed ver.), Limhwa 57cm, and Dollstown 18yrs are all gorgeous to me~ But this is all just the BIG dolls, thank god I'm not terribly keen on the smaller dolls or I'd have a lot longer of a list!

EDIT: I should note, I don't own any of these bodies yet, so this is based solely on appearance. I'm also REALLY picky about the way my bodies look! I love it when the boys are a little muscular but not big and buff (Iplehouse SID is the biggest, most buff guy I can tolerate, but the sculpting is still gorgeous), and I love it when the girls have wonderful curves, while still being somewhat realistic (for the most part, and with the exception of the 18yrs girl body).

    19. My favorite resin comes from Volks, and I do love the weight and general solidity of my SD13 guys... but I wouldn't exactly call their body sculpting beautiful. Dollstown's bods are nice, as others have said, and I'm very fond of the old CP Delfs. They're very graceful bodies.

For the *best* sculpts, though? Hands down, no contest... for me Iple's EIDs have to take that prize. They're just gorgeous in a very sculptural, very classical kind of way. Alas, the guys at least are mostly "form" with very little "function". 'Beautiful as they are, they're terrible posers.

    20. BlueBloodDoll.

The resin is seamless and has a bit of a glow without looking waxy or too translucent. The sculpting is beautiful (those HIPBONES!!!!) The hands are a good size and neutral pose. The posing is good, without awkward or clunky joints and the holes and string don't show.
