Murphy's Law striking when clothes shopping for a certain size?

Nov 3, 2014

    1. Have you ever gone clothes shopping for your dolls, only to find that the perfect clothes doesn't come in the size you want? Do you find that when you browse the shops, they (somehow??) always cater to every other size but the one you want?

The reason I ask is because I've recently decided to only stick to MSDs and smaller. Problem is, I loooove the choice of shoes for SD and SD16s, and I originally got my SD girl so I could buy without worrying ;)

I know there are always options for each size, but that doesn't stop me being disappointed when I go onto Taobao haha!

Have you felt the same way? How do you deal with the disappointment when you can't find the item in the size you want?

I LIED, no poll for us :< Share your story!

    2. This is the story of my life right now. The girl I'm shopping for is 68cm... everything I fall in love with is either SD or MSD. I don't have a way to deal with the disappointment... I just throw my hands up to the heavens and ask WHYYYY?! I hope I never decided to buy another big doll again...

    3. This is the story of my life shopping for my Minoruworld Junior haha. He is an absolute pain to find things for. He is slightly taller and longer than a yosd, so leggings and sleeves are all short on him. Bottoms without elastic won't fit, because his butt is too big (I found out after buying some TTYA shorts, sobs). His feet are juuuust barely too large for 99% of yosd shoes.

I knew this would be a problem when I bought him, but it still is frustrating when I see all this stuff I want and know it won't fit :(. But I just love his size so much.

    4. Ahaha, oh yes! I feel your pain! Or at least have started to feel it. Originally I was dead set on a 1/6 sized doll and had all these beautiful clothes and shoes bookmarked. I then in a moment of impulse bought an MSD. I quickly realized the majority of stuff I love is in 1/6 or 1/3 scale. Every time I look at things I'm drawn to items that are inexplicably in every size but 1/4.

My doll is also "slim" or at least similar to slim (a la tiny fairy) and the shorter body, so I'm expecting some future difficulties. I bought a corset that is a little big in the chest (but still gorgeous) and I'm glad it works. I'm also waiting on a unoa sized outfit and I'm really hoping it isn't too small.

I also want a very specific type school girl outfit. I need a blazer, and am not really into sailor type uniforms but those seem to be the default for MSD size. Last year Sadol changed their MSD uniforms to something I don't like as much, but that doesn't matter because everything under MSD on their website is sold out! I would kill for an outfit like their original Go To School Series in 1/4 size. They have it in the other sizes just not the one I want. :doh

On the plus side there are still a bunch of cute 1/4 shoes. I'll just own all the doll shoes if I can't have pretty doll clothes.

    5. Ugh! All the clothes I seem to like are 1/3 size! And the clothes that I like that are MSD sized won't fit because Souldoll's NL bodies are so leggy and tall. So I mostly just end up making my clothes. It works just as well and I get what I like. (plus I like having a skill to improve on!)

    6. i can never find the right sizes. Even when they should be the right size it never works out in the end. Half gave up and figured ill just make everything, but sometimes theres those items you cant really reproduce (nor would i want to recreate someone's design) that is just not in the right size. I have to admit though i have a few pairs of shoes that were too perfect not to get even though i have no one currently to fit into them. They are still gorgeous to look at sitting empty though.

    7. I love the clothes they have at Iplehouse, but since my doll is a 5stardoll, they are always to big even if I buy them for the same size of dolls. I guess that is what I get for buying an elf while most of the Iplehouse dolls are 'human', their body types just don't match :P I'm thinking about either adjusting their clothes or get a second hand Iplehousedoll, just to be able to show off the clothes in their full glory.

    8. Haha, yeah. Especially since mine is a Doll Chateau, and he's honesty such a weird size and he mainly fits slim clothes.:sweat When ever I see average sized 1/4 clothes I get a bit disappointed since he may not fit, he so skinny. And other sizes are off limits obviously.

    9. I just had this problem. I have some 65cm dolls and I was looking for a fur or wool lined jacket for them. I can find similar jackets and coats for every other size but none of them seem to fit the dimensions of my dolls. I have noticed that a lot of people who have Iplehouse Elder Dolls have a jacket that will work but I can't find it to purchase. So, technically, the problem has not been resolved yet. I'll just keep searching furiously until I find what I want.

    10. I am so blessed that my MSD boy fits perfectly in Minifee clothing because shopping for my Hujoo was a nightmare. He has a slightly larger butt, so I do have to avoid denim and material that doesn't stretch well, but other than that, Avery is a nice standard MSD size. I can technically put my Hujoo in Blythe clothes, but they don't sit quite right on the arms because of the slightly longer torso. It took me 6 months to find something good for poor Ike.

    11. Gosh, where do I start?
As I'm attracted to odd sized dolls, finding anything that fits is hard! I have five yosd's from DZ (now discontinued), three boys and two girls, all on the same slim body. I was searching for matching boys and girls school uniforms, and couldn't find any! I know I saw some when I wasn't interested, but the minute I need something it's gone, lol. So I ended up sewing my own school uniforms -but.....still no shoes... All that exists is tennis shoes or girly shoes, nothing suitable for boys, in their extremely hard to find foot size, appropriate for a school uniform.

And...my FL ChicLine Rou -40cm of hard to dress resin. I think I might just start a bjd nudist colony!

    12. I've somehow ended up with a collection of dolls that are incredibly hard to shop for. My AE girl has a big butt so she is usually in skirts or dresses, my DF-H boy is tall and also has a big butt so pants are hard to find, and I've started shopping for my first yosd sized doll and everything I like for him is easier to find in MSD and larger. So far the easiest I have to shop for is my DDdy because she surprisingly fits into a ton of clothes (SD13 boy and stretchy girl, SD16 fits her bust and hips perfectly, and all of the Dollheart DDdy )

    13. Murphy's Law seems to hit me with "At the time you have the money for item X, it will be gone forever, no matter the time frame."

That perfect pair of SD13 boy motorcycle boots? Gone.
That perfect suit for Dollshe Hound? Nice try.
Casual mature clothes for you slim minis? Ha-ha.

Shoes seem to really be my pitfall. Any time I find JUST the right pair of shoes, they're gone when I get my wallet out. ^///^

    14. Tell me about it. Just got a Zaoll luv, and I'm worried the poor thing would drown in most SD-sized dresses and such. She's such a lovely size, but there really aren't too many places that make clothes for her short little legs!

    15. I'm currently having this problem with ALL of my girls.

My sister bought me this really gorgeous bra and panties set for Christmas, and it won't fit ANY of my 5 girls! The IslandDoll and Mystic Kids girls are so slender, it falls off. The AoD has the right breast size, but her torso is too slender. The CustomHouse girl's torso is closer, but her breasts are too small. The Iplehouse SID girl is so large, there's an inch gap in the back where the bra won't hook. >.< My solution? Buy a new girl that can wear it! :D (But she's a 2D Doll, so her hips might be too large for the panties...)

I sometimes have these issues with my boys too. My 64-65cm boys are too tall/long limbed for SD/SD13 clothes, but too slender for 70cm. SD17 clothes are hit and miss, and not all shops sell that size. My 55-58cm boys are too short for everything. My AoD and Volks boys are too chubby for a lot of standard 1/3 clothes. My 1/6 boy is actually 30cm and super chubby, so standard 1/6 or yoSD clothes and boots don't fit. And my MSD boy is a standard Volks MSD....slim mini stuff won't fit, and a lot of the stuff I do find is old fashioned, girly or dressy. I need typical 6 year old boy clothes to fit him!

    16. Yes! I found the pérfect shoes for my Cerisedolls Ombre, but they were sold out. So I was about to start a WTB thread and go on a quest for these shoes because they were perfect, when a fellow Ombre owner told me they'd never fit, even though they're MSD, because her foot shape is kind of odd and they don't fit all sorts of shoes. So...I got different shoes. Sad, but oh well! Better than to have super fabulous shoes after a long time searching and then finding out they don't fit!

    17. I feel your pain! It is so hard shopping for Pukifee/Lati Yellow small size. Sure, there are cute things for them, but the things available for the larger sizes makes me green with envy. I have been shopping for the last few days for my Pukifee and have run into this problem constantly. I understand that it is harder to make things for their smaller bodies. Still, I can't help but drool over what I can't have. It makes me wish that I had skills of my own so that I can just make the outfits myself.

    18. I have a 46 cm doll and haven't really shopped for too many clothes, but I do have that issue when browsing for shoes. There are such lovely shoes for larger dolls and sometimes I even see shoes that I like that are in the 1/4 scale, but they are a half inch too small...

I only have 1 pair of pants that my boys will need to share and it is kind of short and a bit tight. It closes, but it's still sort of tight since I believe it was meant for a doll that is more in the 44 cm range. I hope this isn't a recurring problem, but I have looked through "how to make pants" tutorials, so I'll tackle those if it is. :)

I want a black vest that looks like Shizuo's, but I have only seen that type for larger dolls. I did find a vest, but the style is a bit different. I might be able to find the perfect vest if I search hard enough though.

    19. I don't think this is a fair comparison to "Murphy's Law" (which is "anything that can go wrong, will"), but I suppose it's pretty disappointing, to say the least.

I think the worst I've encountered is that there's a beautiful outfit on Luts's site, that would perfectly fit the doll I want to, and stylistically is absolutely ideal for him... and it was limited, and sold out before I ever even considered buying the doll I want it for. For the rest, I've been learning more and more how to hunt down or make what I want for them, but that one outfit... sigh.
