Non-BJD shoes on MSD-sized dolls?

Jan 24, 2010

    1. I got irritated surfing eBay for a pair of very simple, flat, 'pattent-leather' maryjanes while thinking 'This style would be so easy to find for a child-doll like an 18" doll.' And then I thought 'Why not?' and looked up a shoe-size chart and American Girls feet are just shy of a centemeter longer than a Junior Ai's, and I started wondering if anybody has tried out shoes made for more traditional dolls on BJD feet. I know Momoko and Barbie shoes are pretty much interchangable, but I'm wondering about minis particularly because I have a little girl coming in this month.

Anyone experimented with American or European brands of doll shoes? Are American Girl shoes too big (particularly too wide, I'd guess) for MSD feet?

EDIT: Has anyone tried "Lark,Piper,Wren,Raven" shoes on an MSD? It looks like it would be a tight fit for a Junior Ai, but a possible...

    2. American Girl shoes reeeeaaaaally dont fit very well. If anything, you might be able to get away with using them on an SD, but they'd look kind of ridiculous on an MSD. While the length is close, American Girls (and other similar 18inch dolls) feet are significantly wider ^^;

I don't have any pictures right now, but if you want i can take some a little later

    3. I really don't think that they'd fit. American Girl dolls are the same height, but they're plumper, chunkier. I'd imagine their feet are much wider than MSD feet.

You should take a look at Dale Rae's shoes. She has several MSD styles to choose from and the price is good.

    4. I haven't actually seen this particular brand, but I bought a pair of Monique shoes made for a 'child-doll' I guess you'd call it. Anyway, I got them a bit short, but they were still way too wide.

If American Girl feet are around a centimetre longer, then I'm going to say that they are going to be WAY too wide and long for MSD feet.

Of course, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they're going to be too big.

    5. Yeah, I'm looking through other brands on eBay, trying to get measurements as I go, but most of them are for 18" dolls and have the wide baby-feet. Chatty-Cathy's got a better proportion (length to width) but her feet are also really big...

And also about 80% of the doll shoes I turn up on eBay are for American Girls.

    6. My Twin have perfect foot proportions, unfortunately they're a 1/2 scale doll so they're huge...

No, wait, I guess they are SD sized, they just have huge feet. Better for ballancing, I suppose...

    7. I only have slim minis, but I have some shoes that are meant for other dolls that fit my girls. I have two pairs of the bow flat Mary Jane shoes that are meant for the vintage Crissy dolls. The are a little long, and a little wide, but not too bad. Regular MSD shoes look clunkier on my slim girls than these do. I haven't tried any of the other styles, though. I have several pairs of Teen Trends shoes. They barely fit. I recently purchased the Tonner Laura Croft outfit for my Narae, and was suprised to see that the boots that came with the outfit fit her perfectly! This doll I guess has flat feet, and are bigger then the usual shoes that come with the Tonner dolls. I was actually quite pleased with them, because they don't look huge around my Narae's ankles and calves, like most boots made for MSDs on the slim minis. American Girls definately will not fit minis, though. I have a Samantha doll from when I was younger, and her feet are twice as wide as my minis.

    8. Ruth Hartley in the UK makes shoes with her daughter, Lisa and sells them at this site:

I have found them to work on some of my MSD dolls. If you send her the measurements she may well be able to help you.

    9. I've had good luck with 2debsadorables on ebay. Her website gives measurements for all the shoes she carries (this is a huge help) and some of the sizes have been compatible. I've had good luck with shoes for Lark, Piper, Raven and Wren and also Seasons Kish dolls for MSD's. I haven't found anything for my SD because Deb's shoes of that length (3") are for much fatter feet.

    10. I have purchased shoes from Deb's Adorables on eBay as well, and the Kish Lark size fits my slim mini (Asleep Eidolon)--just barely. The shoes I purchased do not fit my Volks MSD feet.

    11. Ellowyne Shoes Fit very tight on Unoa chibi and Volks 60cm fit well on Elder and better on Chibi. If it's sandals they fit both very well, closed shoes might not fit Unoa Elder. I sadly cant find shoes I like a lot so I'm gonna try make my own shoes.

    12. There's a discontinued doll called Lorifina whose shoes are slim-MSD sized. You can often find them on Ebay, and there's a very cute thread about it on DoA: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/s...-DC-Bella-ShD-Hikali&highlight=lorifina+shoes

American girls are super chunky, and none of their clothes/shoes fit any BJDs that I know of. However, their props (like books and dishes) and furniture often works with SD and MSD sizes.
