1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Obitsu v. other brands?

Nov 26, 2013

    1. I'm not sure which form this goes in, so here goes.

I was wondering why people hate Obitsu dolls so much. Are they inferior in some way? I know they have much more pose ability than the dolls with the rubber bands. Can someone please fill me in here?

    2. Obitsu are vinyl and ABS plastic, versus the resin that other doll companies offer. They are built on an internal ABS skeleton. Only Volks also offers vinyl/abs ABJDs that are acceptable here. I have both resin and Obitsu dolls, and I like both. I don't need to worry about fragility of vinyl, and Obitsus pose better than any strung doll could, but there are also cons; vinyl stains more easily, and there is little selection in the way of hands. You can, however, put a resin head on an Obitsu body, and I have done that.

    3. I'm not sure where you get the idea that people hate Obitsus; I don't think I've ever seen a single person say something openly negative about them. Most of them are off-topic for the forum, but that doesn't mean people hate them; it just means we don't discuss them here. The biggest Obitsus are, I believe, on-topic, just as Dollfie Dreams are. There isn't anything wrong with them; the focus of this forum is just on resin ABJDs and the mods have to keep it narrow or things would get really out of control. There are other forums out there to discuss those dolls in. The larger Obitsus and DDs were on-topic when the forum was originally created, although they don't fit the current criteria; they were grandfathered in. Like Victoria Victrix mentioned, vinyl has its own set of issues, just like resin does. It all comes down to personal preference.

Resin dolls aren't held together by "rubber bands", either. The elastic is generally tougher than that.

    4. My first doll was an Obitsu and generally my collection is mainly vinyl...I love both Resin and vinyl especially now that I have a resin doll of my own. The material is essentially the same...

      It's plastic.

    5. My first "big doll" was an Obitsu that I've had for over seven years. He weighs less than a comparable resin the same size and he's taken a few dings that might have chipped a resin. If you're used to the smaller off topic Obitsus then going bigger may feel more comfortable. I've been around doll people and non doll people, he's been the first "Dollfie" a lot of people have seen and the first big Obitsu, no one has ever said anything bad about him.

You can pick the head, eyes, wig, face-up, skin tone, clothes, shoes, and all the other things for strung dolls.

    6. I've never encountered any negativity towards vinyl dolls in general or Obitsus specifically. Technically they're not on topic but are allowed because people own them who were here before the current on topic rules came into force. Vinyl has its pluses and negatives just as resin does, and their joints are different, but you can basically do the same things with them. I didn't even know the Gretels were vinyl when I first saw rhem, I just loved her sculpt.

    7. Thanks guys! Sorry if I offended anyone, I didn't mean to. I just really like them and am trying to choose which direction is best. Thanks for the great advice! :)

    8. I very much like my Obitsus. There is another issue with them, and that is parts of their internal skeleton can snap on you. But then, elastic for resins wears out and they have to be restrung, so both have their "internal" problems. The Volks Dolfie Dreams also have the same problem with snapping skeletons, but unfortunately, Volks does not make replacement parts and Obitsu does. I have to say it is something of a relief to have a doll you can haul around without worrying about breaking it.

    9. The next step might be what size you want? There's more than Littles and 60s. And what head? Painted eyes or glass or plastic? What wig? Boy or girl? Normal or white?

    10. I have two Volks DD heads on the big Obitsu bodies -- Obitsus are nice dolls and the larger sizes (mini sized and up) are on topic. However, because they are different from your standard resin bjds some people are going to love them and some people aren't going to be interested. I personally love the fact that you can get replacement pieces for the internal skeleton in case of breaks, and that there are many parts that are mix and matchable (for instance one of my girls is on the 60cm body, but I swapped out the legs for 55cm). They are also extremely posable. However, they feel different than a resin doll, and it's sometimes trickier finding clothes that fit right because of their tiny little waists. It really comes down to what you like aesthetically as to whether or not an Obitsu is going to fit the bill.

    11. I'm a fan of some of Obitsu's bodies, and I have a DD head on a Obitsu 50 body. I think the quality of this body is very good, and it's one of the most poseable dolls out there.

    12. I've got the 1/6 Obitsus which are Off-Topic here. I don't have any of the large Obitsus. But just because something is Off-Topic or just because I don't happen to own any--doesn't mean there's any hating going on. I've never heard anyone saying they hate them, anyway...

    13. Volks does sell replacement Dollfie Dream parts, but you maybe have to wait a bit, cause things tend to go in and out of stock often! :3

I got my first Vinyl girl (Dollfie Dream-01 Head on an Obitsu47cm body) this year and I just love her! She's so light and cute and compact (and squishy!*0*) and she poses better than any of my resin dolls! In fact I love her so much, I now have two other vinyl girls to keep her company! >w<~:aheartbea

I have read of people saying they're not a fan of vinyl dolls (mostly on tumblr and such places), but I've read of people disliking many types of dolls; realistic, stylised, cheap, expensive, this company, that company. Really, you've just gotta like what you like and not pay any attention to the people who might try to make you feel bad about your choices. They're not gonna be worth your time and emotions! :3

    14. I let my Obitsu 60 play Spider-Man. He gets to hang upside from things and go in to poses I'd be afraid to let a heavier doll that could chip easier do. And they have magnets in their feet and can use anything metal for a stand.

    15. Nothing wrong with Obitsu's. I have 2 big ones I got them when I couldn't afford and find other companies I love how they give you more freedom for customizing then companies like luts. I think there more underrated than hated. Especially with the little ones are great for starting out and learning to take care of dolls and you can do lots more with them. There are ups and downs I'm a creative person so I go with dolls that either fit what i want to do or what i want to make.

    16. I don't think people 'hate' obitsus, it's just off topic on DoA.

    17. :)I love obitsu's dolls. I would say go for what you like and the 40cm and up are allowed on this site. I do realy like the fact that every part can be replaced if needed.

    18. All three of my girls have Obitsu bodies and I love them a lot. I'm glad to see that I'm no the only one. ^^

    19. You are partially incorrect. Only the 1/6 Obitsus are off topic on DoA. The larger ones are On Topic.

    20. If you're worried about dropping your doll or have a medical condition that makes you worried you might then a big Obitsu is a great way to go. My guy got me used to carrying a big doll, I dropped him, knocked his head in to things, did all sorts of stuff that might have chipped his later resin siblings.
