1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Pagans, NeoPagans, Witches, and their Dolls

Nov 14, 2013

    1. I haven't found another thread for this, but if there is one, feel free to delete this one.

I'm a Wiccan and have been for ten years. I'm a solitary, preferring to work alone rather than in a coven. I really love this religion and classify myself as eclectic within it.

And so I was setting my Mabon, or fall equinox, ritual up about a month ago, and thought, "Hey, Raz is so tiny and cute, but he totally fits into the whole 'things are dying and going to sleep' idea that fall brings." Raz is my Yo-SD Honey Delf XD and that got me thinking, what about incorporating my dolls into my rituals?

I wondered if any of you are Wiccan or Pagan, or even if you aren't, but what are your thoughts on letting your dolls be a part of your rituals or spellwork? Do you think it would mess with the doll? Do nothing? Distract from the ritual? I have yet to actually try it, but I really would like to know what other people think about it.

    2. I'm Heathen (or Asatru...basically, think Odin, Thor, Loki, etc. but NOT the comic book/movie versions and you have a good starting point for understanding what I do) and...I really can't see my involving my dolls in any rituals. I think it would be a little distracting, and I would be too worried about something like knocking a candle on to them, spilling something on them, or knocking them over. I see too much potential for them to get damaged or dirty and I think I would spend so much of my time and effort focusing on make sure they weren't damaged that it would be hard for me to actually focus on the ritual. Plus if I ever go to a group ritual I would have to find a way to transport any dolls that I wanted to include, and since most of mine are bigger and I find them hard to cart around, that would get really annoying really fast.

    3. i think it depends on the doll and the ritual. i know of several trads that use cornhusk dolls or something similar in rites. depending on what kind of pagan you are you may want to do a "cleansing" before hand and after if the doll will be used for another purpose. for example i have a pumpkin mercury glass style candle holder i bought as a halloween decoration. i used it for my holiday altar but will most probably give it a de-energy wash when i take it off my altar. i find something appealing about a more permanent "doll" used for ritual works, but personally if i wanted to use it for more than one rite i'd buy one specifically for the purpose.

(as an aside i really like these questions because they're making me think.)

edit to add: mostly celtic, primarily solitary over here.

    4. What ever spiritual journey your doll goes on if it's filled with love and goodness there isn't room for anything else. Because they are representations of human beings it's easy for a doll to absorb spiritual energy of all types and after any deep experience a cleansing might be in order.

    5. I have put my drawings into my rituals with my mother and taken pictures of my MSD on our Mabon alter but I never incorperated my actual dolls into the ritual..I'd feel really worried if I was meditating and they fell and I never noticed. I do plan on making my mother a custom doll to represent a witch for her to keep on her alter but I never thought to use my actual dolls...My mom doesn't mind if I set them on things like that since she thinks it's awesome a majority of my dolls are witches/warlocks/sorcerers/elves so it fits...But I've never actually done it myself. owo Interesting though. If you do, do that let me know how it turns out.

    6. I must admit I'm not brilliant at remembering to do rituals but I can't see myself using my dolls in them. It might be cute to make robes for them and have them as dolly observers.

    7. My dolls (some of them) shell characters that are Pagan - as am I. I've got some 1/3 scale ritual stuff (just like I've got 1/3 scale temple items LOL). The only doll I actually use in MY rituals is a Voodun Priestess doll from Haiti (70 years old).

    8. I'm pagan, but my dolls have no pagan influences nor do they "take part" in any pagan stuff.

    9. Since this is more about religious paths and Den of Angels is a forum about dolls, this thread will be closed.

This subject would make a great topic for a personal blog though!
