Pets and BJD

May 30, 2014

    1. So I recently got a Withdoll Eliza, and I have two dogs, both of which have never had a problem with the previous 1/4 dolls and my current 1/3 dolls...But for some reason my poodle is deathly afraid of Emily (my Eliza's name)!

So i ask you all: Have your pets ever been freaked out by a BJD? Or do they love them? Or are they (as my other dog is) completely indifferent?

It's so weird, she won't even come in the room with the doll. She only gets marginally better when I take off the head and put it away. And it's not the smell, because she's never minded before...Or the resin, for the same reason.

      Weird?

    2. Dog doesn't want anything to do with the dolls, only with me incase I have food.

    3. My dog is always curious when I bring a doll out and will sometimes sniff them, but when I start posing them (especially when they're being kicky!) he backs off and will avoid them until they go back in the closet. He usually stays in the room, though, and has never seemed particularly bothered by them. That's really unusual that your dog only reacts to that doll.

    4. Yeah, my dogs don't really even know they exist. I keep them in my room up high and the pooches are technically not allowed in my room (I say "technically" because there are times when we bend the rules a little) ;)

    5. My kitten wants to eat/play with my doll wigs. He hasn't seen most of my dolls yet because I packed them away before he came home. I was worried that he would damage them while he's getting used to his new home.

    6. @dolls&tea I have no cats, so it didn't even occur to me about eating them...I bet he'd do a number on them, probably a good idea that you put them away for now!

@keiko-chanYeah it's so weird. Like, I've had this doll for a while, and she freaks out every single time I take the doll out of the box. Even if it's just sitting on a table with no people around, my dog won't go near it!

@Arashi Uchiha Yeah the other one doesn't even know they exist even when I put them near him, he only knows "FOODFOODFOODFOODPOOPFOODPLAYPOOPFOOD" while the poodle has more varied interests, like being afraid of dolls and getting white break stuck on her paws when she doesn't catch the food i throw at her xD

@FairyPrincessCouture Yeah the poodle won't even come into my room now (they aren't allowed in my bedroom either lol, but I let them break the rules too sometimes).

    7. My dog doesn't really mind my boys. He sniffs their shoes or legs and then leaves them alone. Even if I pose one of them next to him, he'll just sigh and go to sleep like there's nothing there.

    8. My dog doesn't notice their existence. She is a massively relaxed dog though, and not afraid of anything. I sleep in my bed with her and my dolls - she won't touch them because she knows they're my toys, not hers. My cat doesn't notice them either, which is a problem because he is very clumsy and would knock them off a shelf if I wasn't careful...

    9. @Asta you sleep with your dolls? You are a brave woman! I'd be afraid of breaking them!

    10. My dog tries to nuzzle my guys occasionally which is dangerous if they're just standing around or just anywhere they can fall off of.

    11. My dog sniffs them and sometimes tries to snatch their wigs to play with. He has no fear of them at all. I have posed several dollies sitting on him and he doesn't mind it one bit. :)

    12. My dog does get mad sometimes when I play with my doll. She will bark very loud until I put my doll down. Every time she bark while looking at me, I have feeling that my dog probably need some love from me. :XD:

    13. My dogs could care less about my dolls, they do get a little curious if I host a meet and may sniff a doll or two but they are more interested in getting petted :) my cat doesn't bother them either, that being said I never leave my dolls unsupervised with my pets, they get put away if I have to go bc I'd just rather not take the chance

    14. My one parrot is terrified of my off topic 1/6 dolls, and the other lovingly grooms them. I'm betting the same will hold true with bigger BJDs.

    15. My dog mostly ignores my dolls, and I often leave one sitting on the couch with her if I'm in the room. She usually is indifferent, but I have caught her covering Justin with her blanket, and trying to curl up in Kier's lap! Mostly, though, she just doesn't care.

    16. @ThisOneIsMein that's kind of hilarious. I kind of want to see a pic of a parrot grooming a BJD now xD

I'm going to try to get her used to my doll, because they are gonna be around lol. I wish she was indifferent, that'd make my life easier.

    17. My Shiba, Kismet is interested when I'm playing with them and comes over to sniff them. She doesn't really seem to think one way or another about them just a "Whatcha doin mum?" Type thing.

My parrot on the other hand is like "PRETTY SPARKLEY LONG HAIRED THINGS MUST BE CHEWED UPON". If I let her have her way with them the eyelashes would be gone, face-ups chipped off, wigs fully groomed and only she knows what else. This bird is serious trouble.

My parent's Shiba, Koji would just take em and throw em.

My Pompom, Fizz couldn't care less.

    18. My cats seem to really like my dolls. They're both aggressively affectionate animals but when they go to nuzzle any of my boys (usually at their feet dangling down from the coffee table), they're very gently and seem to be trying their best not to push them over. They'd probably try to groom their hair if I'd let them.

    19. I used to be really afraid that my two cats and dog would destroy my dolls. As I slowly tried to introduce them to the dolls though, I realized that they were completely indifferent, which is really nice since I don't have to worry about leaving dolls out. I've had two incidents though where they did scare me. ^^;;

The first time was when I first got in a new pair of cat ears for my msd. I tried them on her, and they were great. Then I thought to myself, "I know cats sometimes get scared when they see people wearing costumes with cat ears. I wonder how they'll react to the doll they ignore?" So since they were right there next to me I turned the doll towards them. I immediately regretted it, as they were absolutely terrified >ω< I don't leave cat ears on that doll when it's out!

The other incident was with my smaller cat of the two. She likes to steal tiny plastic things like contact cases and bat them around the house and chew on them. Because of that I was really scared of her getting a hold of some doll shoes and chewing up the plastic soles. I had recently made a closet for my doll clothes and shoes, and put them all in there instead of leaving them in the plastic container I used to use. Since I don't have my wooden clothes hangers in, yet, I used pipe cleaners instead. When I was folding the pipe cleaners, she tried to sneak off with one but I wouldn't let her. I told my husband that night "I really hope she doesn't get in there and eat any of the shoes. That would be the worst!" Sure enough, the next day I get home from work, and the little closet door is open and shoes and clothes are all over the floor. I panicked, and ran over to see what was destroyed. All the shoes were fine and everything was accounted for...except for one pipe cleaner hanger -.-

So I've really come to trust my pets. It's nice to be able to leave my doll stuff on display :D

    20. @lemonlime That's funny that they only react to the ears! And I'm glad your shoes were okay, and that the only causality was the hanger xD

The only thing that the male dog does to my dolls that I hate is that if I leave them at a low enough height he'll try to lick them. I was worried for a while he'd lick the faceup off if I left it there lol.
