1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Plastic surgery to look like your doll?

May 23, 2013

    1. Mod, please remove this thread if it is off topic

I'll be bringing two BJD heads to the doctor's office in a couple of weeks' time (I guess I'll be the first patient to bring in a "3D model" for reference ). I'm getting my eyes, nose and mouth done, probably not all at once, but I'm not going for those really invasive procedures involving bone structures) Reactions from my general friends and family has so far been okay but my friends in the doll hobby have been really negative and I'm not even sure why. Perhaps, it's about me being sacrilegious to their ideals or something. I don't know. I guess that for some people it is down right ridiculous for me to want to be as pretty as my obviously male dolls though I don't feel that it's an issue at all.

I believe that I'm not the only one here whose idea of beauty has been heavily influenced by my time in the doll community, yet I can't help but wonder if I'm the only one going so far to pursue such an image

      1. When did the idea of getting a surgery to look like a doll first cross your mind(even for a second)?
      2. Which part of your BJD/BJD which you've planned to buy have you considered getting plastic surgery to look like?
      3. How did the people around you, including the doctor if you have already had a visit, react when you have told them what you want for the surgery?
      4. Did your doll friends react negatively?
      5. If applicable, how did the surgery/ies go and were you satisfied with it/them (as in, did it really look like the doll image you want)?

Please don't simply reply with "it has never crossed my mind" or "ewww that's gross".
I hope I can get some proper replies .__.

    2. To each his own, I guess...As much as I like my dolls, but I would not like to look like any of my dolls using such methods.

    3. I've never thought of it, but I'd be interested to know how the doctor reacted in your case, and if he thought it could be done?

    4. I think that's really awesome that you're pursuing it if you truly wish to have features similar to your dolls. If anything, I think the cosmetic surgeon would be grateful you have a 3D representation of what sort of look you wish to achieve versus other patients potentially giving a mere verbal description that can be interpreted in a myriad of ways.

No matter the reaction of others whether negative or positive, ultimately you should chase your dream if you've thought it over and decided that you genuinely want an aspect that your BJD boys demonstrate in their sculpt, and more power to you - at least you know what you want in your look! :)

    5. I haven't considered this myself so this is not the sort of answer you're looking for. I'm going to be boring and remind anybody who is considering cosmetic surgery that:
      - there is always risk attached to surgery
      - even if the surgery goes well, there is no guarantee that the result will be what you imagined
      - even if the result is what you imagined, your taste is likely to change and in a few years you might regret the whole thing.
      - If you're doing it to feel better about yourself, consider seeing a therapist to talk things through and help to predict whether it will actually have the desired overall effect. Actually, I think with many surgeons patients have mandatory counselling.

Enough boring stuff. I know that cosmetic surgery can be a great help. If you decide to go through with it, I wish you the best of luck with it!

    6. *zippp* no comment

    7. This is off-topic since this is more about a very personal decision than it is about doll collecting.

On a personal note, any surgical procedure is risky and procedures on a person's face might not turn out in the way that they wished. Sometimes it's better than they hoped, sometimes it doesn't match the picture in their head (or the face of the doll they look at and dream about.) A reputable surgeon should recommend counselling to discuss this and make sure anyone considering a cosmetic procedure knows about the risks as well as the benefits.

Ultimately, it isn't a decision to take lightly and perhaps it might be more rewarding for you to talk this over with your friends in the doll hobby who know you personally. That way you will be able to find out why they have reacted negatively to your plans; if they are truly your friends, they may feel quite concerned for you, especially if this is something that has only recently come up - you may have been considering this and planning it for some time, but to your doll friends it may have come completely out of the blue.

For anyone considering this route it would be best to talk this over with your family, friends and your doctor who can offer you personal advice, rather than a general discussion where people don't really know your circumstances and may offer you advice that inadvertently causes more harm than good.

      Best of luck!
