Playing Favorites

Jun 17, 2013

    1. Okay, so I was thinking today and I realized that I appear to "play favorites" with my dolls in certain situations. Angelo, my first doll, is the only one I really imagine taking out in public. But, Lily, my second doll, gets way more photographs when I do photoshoots than Angelo. I guess I'm not playing "true" favorites, but is there anyone out there who does? Which doll gets more attention? Or, does every doll you own get the same amount? Do some dolls get more attention depending on what you're doing with them? Do you only have one doll because you don't want to play favorites (that was totally me for a while!)?

    2. Absolutely! Sometimes I feel like I don't know how to not play favorites, I think some people are just more prone to doing so and have a doll that we just like the most no matter what characterization or wardrobe we give the dolls. I do love all of my dolls very much but I always seem to have a favorite for each size I own and it's very apparent because they're the primary ones I take out, get considered for wardrobes first, etc. I'm this way with everything, not just dolls; in MMORPGs I constantly have a "main" and can't get into having an alt(s), or in The Sims I can't do a legacy challenge because after my first sim who I adore most deceases, that's it for me, the list of my signs of favoritism can go on and on. I think I've gotten way better over the years though at least with my dolls. :)

    3. I don't really play favourites. It's true that some dolls have more clothes than others or get more photos taken or whatever, but that's for other reasons, like they have a style that's easier to shop for or they're more naturally photogenic. It doesn't mean I actually love them more. Sometimes I have anti-favourites, where I like a doll less than the others, but that'll be because I haven't bonded with it yet. But once I've bonded to a doll, I love it just as much as I love the others, for their own different reasons because they're all different dolls with very different characters. I don't love my dolls because their my dolls, I love them (it sounds really ridiculous) for who they are... if that makes sense. In terms of their characters. And so no, I don't play favourites ^^

    4. I don't really have a 'favorite'. Some of my dolls are easier to take places than others, as it is either a couple of MSDs or my Soom Heliot. For the same reason, my MSDs get more photos taken of them, though I have also had Soren for the longest amount of time and taking decent photos of him is easier for that reason. Sure, at certain times I will feel like hanging out with a certain doll. Right now, I am watching movies with my Soom Heliot, just because he is the biggest and I enjoy having him on my lap when I watch movies. I suppose each of them is my favorite for a different reason or my favorite to do a certain activity with.

    5. Hmm thats interesting, i really prefer playing and taking pics of my prefered doll, others never gonna have like the same place in my heart. The most important doll maybe is the one that you find harder to get, the most beautiful, the most special. I have my favorite doll, and even if i try right now i dont feel like i´m gonna love others more than him.

    6. I definitely play favorites. My first doll is always the one taken with me to cons, out in public, etc. Might be due to the fact that she was pretty old and yellow when I got her, and even more so now, so I don't really have to worry much about her skin tone or anything. More likely, though, it's just because I've had longer to bond with her than the others,

    7. This is an interesting thread- I only have one real bjd doll, but am getting another one very soon. I know I will still adore my first doll, but it will be hard not to leave her to one side and go crazy over my new one. If I end up loving my new doll more I think I may feel a little guilty  Oh well, I will cure that guilt by buying her more stuff I guess

    8. Amir and Loki (my first two) are by FAR my favorites! I don't even try to pretend they aren't. I've had them for 5 years and the rest of the dolls were bought as a result of those two (as family, friends, co-workers, lovers, etc). After those two, I have about 4 others that sort of rotate for next fave, but Amir and Loki undoubtedly get the most spoiling.

    9. I play favourites...but it's a rotating game of favourites  My favourite doll is the one I'm particularly drawn to out of my collection for a period of time and then I'll usually be drawn to a different one after a while.

Rupert has the distinction of always being my favourite boy doll because he has the privilege of being the only one ;) With the girls it's definitely on rotation.

    10. Parker will probably always be my favorite just because he has a custom face up and now he looks EXACTLY like his character...but I'm trying to be fair. :...(

    11. Glad to know I'm not the only one who struggles with this a little. But, I do love all of my dolls. I've also noticed that it's Angelo's face that I stick everywhere. Of course, I've had him for almost two years, but have only had Lily since February. And, well, Tessie isn't even here yet! Maybe that's why I tend to gravitate toward Angelo a little.

    12. I totally play favorites... my first doll is super spoiled. Plus my girls get way more attention than the guys. It is fine with me 'cause well, they are dolls and cannot know. ;)

    13. Well for me right now, it's really easy because I only have one doll so far. However I do kind of play favorites between her and my other types of dolls as far as photography goes because honestly, she is the best.

    14. I'm fond of all of my little resin minions... I wouldn't have them if I wasn't... But, yeah. I absolutely do have favorites. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Unlike children, dolls aren't really going to complain about their owner liking another doll better than them.

    15. Lord yes I play favorites. With a crew as large as mine, there are some favorites to be sure.

    16. I love my entire crew of resin roommates and they all get attention, but I honestly cannot deny that Tyler is my favourite. I nearly always take him with me when I'm travelling and there are easily twice as many photos of him than of any of my other dolls. He's shamelessly spoiled, far more than the others. In general, I think I 'play favourites' with my boys. I tend to give them much more attention than my girls. I really don't have any guilt feelings about playing favourites, though. That's the beauty of dolls. Unlike people and pets, they do not get jealous and won't hold it against you if you blatantly favour one over the others.

    17. I definitely have favorites, and can rank them easily by most to least. My most favorite is my first doll. She's the most expensive, I spent the most time planning for her before purchasing, she has the most stuff, she's the easiest to faceup, and she's also the easiest to shop for by far. I like her weight, feel, and aesthetics the most. I prefer to carry her out and about to places like cons or friend's houses.

My least favorite, though that's a bit of a sad way to put it, is a tie between my newest little girl and a gift doll from a friend. The gift doll was the hardest by far to find a look and concept that fit her, so she was increasingly frustrating and guilt-inducing for a time... but I think I might have finally nailed it down when pushed to my last straw and I just started modding her and changing her concept uninhibitedly. I've been liking her a lot lately because of it. The other is very cute and I'm very happy with her because she looks great as a matching pair with my other girl, but she is still the newest, and her face wasn't quite what I expected from the company photo. I'm still really happy with her and I love her dark skin, but I'm considering attempting a slight facial mod later on after she's settled in for a while. I hope I like her more then.

So, right now, it's easy to have an obvious favorite because my first doll has just about every reason to be my favorite, haha. The other two dolls I've bought are dolls I bought primarily because of their cheap price, and though I still find them totally adorable, they take a very obvious lower priority and lower attention than my first girl. They're also a lot harder to shop for on top of that, so they don't have many things and they probably never will, but I'm fine with that. The gift doll's aesthetics were never particularly appealing to me, and since I never planned on getting other dolls that went with her, I didn't want her to become a big money sink. But I sort of viewed her as a challenge too, of how much I could use everything else like clothes, wigs, mods, shoes and faceup, to bring out her potential.

But once I get the next two dolls I plan on, I'm not sure I'll have a 'single favorite' anymore, since these next dolls are also what I consider more 'main additions' to my collection.

I like having it this way, rather than all my dolls being favored the same, because it gives me a bit more freedom. It's nice to have dolls that I don't have to feel really worried about 'ruining' with a few risks like mods or taking out and about, but I also like having some higher-quality dolls that I consider more precious and worth really spoiling.

    18. It depends on my mood who I spend time with, but I like to look at it as...there are some who I don't have to worry about because they take care of themselves, and then there are those who need more attention.

That said, I do have those I tend to hug a lot and those I just pat in passing, and those who I don't really do much with unless I made a new outfit, need them in a shoot, or need to compare measurements.

My sprite family is sorta hands off. The stay next to the bookshelf in a little fold out bed. I talk to them sometimes but I don't pick them up near as much as some of the others.

Asher and Celadon I think would be seen as my favorites. I most often have them with me and they sleep with me on the dolly side of the bed or in my arms.

It's not so much the doll that gets the favoritism but the character. :3

    19. Hands down, Moswen is my favourite. I don't even pretend otherwise. Yes, he was my first doll, but that's not the sole reason. There's just something about him. I always smile when I look at him, he's got the most clothes, pictures and photostories.

Oddly enough, one of my lesser favourites is a doll I won in a contest I entered on a whim. I hadn't intended to keep him but after only a few days with him, there was no way in hell I could sell him. Having him resulted in my buying his 2 lovers and in a round about way, planning for 2 more dolls that are part of the world he lives in.

    20. I love all my dolls, I really do, but I can't pretend like I don't have favourites. The thing is, my favourite rotates constantly. Just in the last few months it went from being my minifee Mirwen to my F60 Lishe to my minifee Nanuri 13. Right now it's my minifee Rheia. I guess as long as the favourite keeps rotating that means I love them all!
