1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Question - attaching hair to Elfdoll headcap

Jul 26, 2005

    1. Questions for those of you who have successfully made Elfdoll wigs...

What kind of hair did you use?

Did you use wefted or loose?

What are the slots in the top of the headcap for?

Where and in what order did you glue on hair?

How did you handle the top of the wig? If a part, was it the folded, stitched, pulled kind?

I have made wigs for tiny antique dolls from mohair but they were very simple - mohair piece glued front to back for bangs and back hair, then one long side to side piece with a "part" made by stitching the center of the piece to a strip of thin matching fabric.

I might try that but I would like to hear other ways, especially the use of the headcap slots if anyone knows.

      Thanks,

      carolyn

    2. Well, I remember there being instructions on the old elfdoll.com site on how to do it, and they started on the brims of the headcap, and the slot was used to make the parting without there being a gap or any glue apparent. I couldn't find the picture again, and I'm a bit unsure, but it sounds like it makes sense to me. XD

    3. Thanks - I will see if I can get them to put the instructions back up. Since they split the site into English and Korean I think the lost some content.

I figured the center slot might be for a part.

    4. Hi sweetie , I use a PVA glue , I like Aileens thick glue, and a good quality mohair
there is a tutorial on Rainmans site
I did have the make mohair , I will find it out for you and post the link

    5. I posted at elfdoll.com site asking them to repost the wig tutorial.

Did anyone make a full copy of it while it was up?

    6. Thanks for posting this -- it will come in very helpful!

    7. Yay! Thanks for asking them to put the wig making tutorial back online. It looks pretty easy

    8. For anyone who has followed the elfdoll.com wig instructions before to create a wig...

It looks like you stick one flat hunk in the center groove if you want a part? What do you do then - divide that hair so half goes down either side of the part?

Also interesting is the suggestion that by covering the headcap with plastic wrap (separately from covering the head for protection I guess) you could make many wigs that you could use on one headcap. Has anyone tried that?

I thought of trying something similar and maybe putting the loose wigs on the doll with a small bit of double stick tape?

    9. Sorry if this has been explained before, I can't find any for sale. It would be fun to follow the tutorial and make a bunch of them.

    10. Any what for sale?

      - blank headcaps are sold by http://www.shop4dollsandbears.com for $5 apiece though they are usually out of stock. You order some, they add it to their next order from Rainman dolls, and a month or so later they should get stock to fill your order. I did that and ordered some optional feet too, and I got them 4-6 weeks later.

      - I don't know if the hair they use in the demontration is real mohair or synthetic mohair. Various places sell mohair for doll wigs including Ebay. One Ebay UK seller has some nice straight mohair.

      - There used to be Elfdoll wigs available for order at shop4dollsandbears, each on their own headcap, but I have not seen them anywhere online for a while.

      - Davona of shop4dollsandbears said she received some new Elfdoll wigs - I believe she said that you must have one blank headcap to use the new wigs (I guess they install on a headcap in some removeable way?). Everyone is waiting for those to show up on her website.

      Did I answer your question?
