1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Reaching out to the BJD community through blogging?

Mar 14, 2015

    1. {If this is the wrong place to post this, I apologize. I couldn't find a thread similar to this one.}

Hi, fellow DoA peeps! So, I have a doll I really love currently being made, and I've been thinking about starting a BJD blog when she arrives as a way to get involved with the BJD community more. The problem is, I don't really know where to begin in terms of active BJD blog communities. In all honesty, the only thing I know for certain is that I want to stay as far away from Tumblr as I can, with all its negativity. Does anyone out there who runs a BJD blog have any tips for me? I'm currently looking into Wordpress, and it seems interesting.

    2. I use Google's blogger. I have been for years. It's a pretty solo thing though, mainly an art gallery and dolly biography. I'm not sure what you mean by blog community. Blogger is nice and simple to use. Not any bells and whistles, but suits my needs just fine.

    3. I've been on tumblr for about 3 years now and I have yet to have any issues at all. it's a pretty nice format for posting pics. Other then that all I ever used was wordpress and i loved it BUT it's really hard to get ppl to see your stuff. it's a fun site to use and all but it's not a place people seem to just hang around on but I havent used it in a long time.

    4. I'm doing fine on Tumblr, before that I was on TypePad, moved because of cupcakes.

Where ever you post there will be "negativity", it's just out there in the world, don't get bogged down by it. You can't fix stupid but you can ignore it. Post what you're going to post and be the kind of person Mr Rodgers knew you could be.

    5. I'm afraid most of the action is on Tumblr, so if you are in it for comments/meeting people, that's really where you will need to go. There used to be a large bjd community on Livejournal a few years back, but t's mostly gone now.

    6. My doll blog is on tumblr. Because I think tumblr suits the format I'm going for with my blog.

    7. Oh, I see. Well, that stinks. I guess I'll go create a Tumblr. Thanks!

    8. There's still a few of us holding out on Deviant art........

    9. Sadly, it does seem that most activity is on Tumblr. Although I have an account there, the formatting is something I simply can't get used to as it seems unsuitable to really get to know people and communicate.

I created a blog through Blogspot (can find it in my sig!) as a means of reaching out through the hobbies I'm interested in, especially as I love reading other blogs. To me, blogs through Blogspot and Wordpress feel like what an actual blog should be, while Tumblr feels more like Twitter-a place to post pictures and repost other things. I greatly dislike referring to them as blogs as the way they are set-up is so quick and doesn't leave much room to go back through someone's archive to read or learn more about them.

    10. I have a blog on Wordpress and one on tumblr. I used to really like Wordpress because of the better feature set, tumblr feels more like it's for simple posts like "here's my lunch". But as Wordpress has "improved" they try to push you into other things like checking out other blogs or social media stuff and so when you login now it's like five clicks just to get to your blog and start a new post. So it's gotten pretty lame. Tumblr is easier to use and more direct (and of course everything lives or dies by tags). The thing is on Wordpress I used to get more comments while on tumblr mostly I get "likes" or reblogs. But unfortunately Wordpress has gotten pretty spare with the comments probably as people get fed up with their crappy interface and flee. The unfortunate part of all these things is that people tend to center in search "ecospheres" so they search tumblr through tumblr or WP through WP etc. Etc, etc....

The sad part is that I think what we're probably all looking for is more of a dialogue but the vast amount of shiny objects on the internet means that ain't gonna happen. So a quick "like" tends to be it or perhaps someone "follows" you.

Long story short, I agree that tumblr is the way to go at this time. At least until the next new thing comes along....

    11. Yeah, I'm seeing that. I'd like to actually get to know other BJD owners, not just like/reblog things and be done. :S

    12. I have a blog (see sig.) where I've gotten to know a lot of really nice people. I use Blogger, but I can follow other sort of blogs as well ^^
For me it has been a great experience to create a blog for my personal rants. I've not become less active here or on my local board, but I just like having a place to put all the stuff about my own dolls. So if that is what you want, I can totally recommend you doing it! :D
(If you do decide, let me know ^^)

    13. For blogging, I would definitely recommend Blogger or Wordpress. Livejournal used to be really good, but I'm seeing it less and less of late. I've used all of the above and then some over the years. I personally prefer self-hosting with Wordpress, but I like having total control. An option for you, though without self-hosting will take a couple more steps, is to multi-post. Choose a blogging platform you like the most, say Blogger or Wordpress, then post teaser posts on microblogs such as Tumblr or Twitter or mirror blogs you might have that link back to the full post on your blog. This helps branch out to areas where users frequent most, but to also bring them back to your "home." Self-hosting gives you the option to have all this mostly auto and even allow comments from other blogging platforms, but it can take a bit of set-up at the outset. I do see a lot of users using Blogger atm for BJD blogs, so that would probably be my biggest suggestion to start at.

Whatever you choose to do, just relax and enjoy. ^_^ And don't get discouraged if you don't get comments and the like. A lot of people tend to be lurkers, lol~

    14. I use google + the people on there are very nice.

    15. There's two things you can do to help avoid negativity on Tumblr - block blogs that are routinely negative (I have most of the "confession" ones on my ignore list) and use something called Tumblr Savior to black or white list key words (amongst the ones I've black listed are variants on Bridget Jones' Diary - they're not usually negative, but the title sometimes gets shortened to BJD, and really, I don't want to read about it… )

    16. I use wordpress and have it on a domain I own.
I just started it but it is something I have wanted to do for a while.

    17. Yeah, that does sound like a good idea. I'm finding I don't like Tumblr's setup much, though. It feels more like Twitter than an actual blog, and I would prefer something more involved.

    18. I recommend blogger too. I, too, have gotten to know some really kind people. :) So far I haven't seen much drama.

    19. There is a very active community on Tumblr, so disseminating and receiving information and such is quicker there. However, if you prefer a real blog where you can just jot down your thoughts and BJD, I see a lot of people who use Bloodspot or Wordpress for BJD blogs. :)

    20. I will sadly vote for tumblr too... It can get hard but don't let negativity discourage you. At first I didn't think I would use it either but I ended up liking it plus, nothing limits you from using it as a regular blog too. x3; it's a very neat format to keep pictures, text posts, stories and pretty much everything as well if you ask me plus the community is pretty active on there.
