1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Reactions to your collection?

Jun 13, 2014

    1. I see all the time people saying their dolls being called freaky or scary, I'd love to hear your experiences good and bad

      I don't think i'd take them out with me but I don't hide them if people come to visit so Ive not really had many reactions, I've been asked,

      "what' with the doll 'thing', explain to me?" lol

    2. Honestly, I've mostly encountered curiosity and fascination with them, though I don't really take them out much, honestly. Some coworkers have asked to see photos of them, though, and one who's come by to feed my cats has seen them in person (she was very interested up until the point of the price tag!), but I don't really advertise them too much.

      I do take them out to the conventions I attend, and generally like to double-check with those I'm rooming with that they aren't creeped out by dolls so I know whether they can sit out for the weekend, or should be tucked away; the last one I was at, when I asked one of the guys in the room about it, asked if he'd be allowed to look at and handle them, since he was curious about them! I've also had one over at the local Games Workshop, and the manager at the time found him fascinating and was enjoying looking him over. (The new manager is also really fascinated, though hasn't seen any of them as I've just been ducking in for supplies.)

    3. I always have my dolls out on my desk when people come over as well as have pictures of them as my background on my phone.
      The reaction is always either fascination and wanting to touch them or calling them creepy.

      I've only ever had one friend that really bugged me about them but he apologized the next day.
      I've found though that as soon as the matter of price comes up, people (no matter whether they liked them or not) are shocked and start telling me all the better things I could have spent the money on. :<
      It's gotten to the point where I just try to change the subject...

      My best experience was when one of my friends discovered them and decided she wanted to buy one.
      She came over to see mine and spent a bit of time just posing one and trying to get her to stand. xD

    4. I've only brought one of them out to a small con before, a lot of people thought that they were really cool and beautiful and someone even said "I know how expense those things are! I'm staying over here!" Which I thought was really funny. I'd really love to attend a meetup so that I can take them out more but there aren't any in my area ;;

      When I told my best friend that I started to collect she immediately said that they were creepy and weird and that their owners are way too attached and wow... that was just a bad experience.

      The only other reactions I've really gotten are from my family, my mom really loved them but she told me not to tell her the price of them xD, she keeps urging me to show my grandma, who is a collector of porcelain/bisque dolls. My sister thinks its amazing how they can be customized but sort of passes the hobby off as another weird thing that I'm into. My dad is hilarious and completely ignores their presence, he's never commented on them, even when I was doing a faceup in the dining room when he came home from work XDD

    5. Most reactions I got have been positive, some exceedingly so. Granted, my father disapproved at first, but he disapproves of everything that costs money unless it's something he would do too, so I don't think he counts ... that, and he almost kinda sorta got the point by now. But everyone else has been fascinated by them. I've been complimented on their clothes, faceups, posing ... everything. The ladies at the craft store (where I usually blow what little money the dolls leave me) flat-out demanded that I show them every doll in my "collection" - which means, one more doll gets to take a trip tomorrow :)
