Recieved a doll in error and feel super bad about unboxing it.

Dec 10, 2021

    1. A while ago, I ordered Luna from Ringdoll. The normal version with lilac hair. Yesterday, I recieved Bi Lou Chun.

Luna has two versions, one with long brown hair and one with short, lilac hair. I saw Bi Lou Chun's long, brown hair and thought I must have ordered the other version of Luna by mistake. The outfit was really pretty so I was like, "I'm not even mad, this version is way prettier" and put her together. In the box was a short, blond wig which I thought was the short lilac wig from the other version. I don't know Luna's story but I assumed "the brown haired one must be her before she died or something, and that's why she's so pretty and flowy." Mind that it's been a very long time since I actually looked at Luna's store page. :(

I feel super bad. I'm not beating myself up too much, because I was poorly from medication withdrawals and all over the place. But she's so drastically different from Luna, it's like... night and day, looking at the two pages next to eachother.

I contacted the retailer, who was super apologetic. It seems like the doll's intended recepitant ordered both versions of Bi Lou Chun and they were shipped seperately by Ringdoll and one was mislabelled as being my Luna doll. I only realized the mistake once I was explaining the doll to my grandmother and realized that she wasn't even vampire adjescant. I double checked and immedietly felt so stupid.

I put all her bits back in their bags, redid the bubble wrap, etc. The eye-tac is balled up and the Ringdoll envelope (with stickers and postcards) is opened but it's ALMOST as if nothing happened. It's definitely not as neat and tidy as when RD first shipped it but hopefully the magic isn't lost on whoever her actual owner is.

The retailer organized for UPS to pick her up, and sent the shipping thing for me to print off. Now, she's all taped up and ready to go. I feel bad for messing with somebody else's doll and my grandmother is disappointed because, for once, she saw me unbox a regular human doll and not some scary monster :XD:

How would you feel if this happened to one of your dolls? Either somebody else unboxed it first, or you recieved somebody else's on accident? I'm hopeful that I'll get my Luna soon and I don't know how I would react if one of my dolls was opened preemptively.

Btw, this doll is seriously gorgouse. The store page and my pics don't do the details justice. It seems like the person didn't order body blushing on their doll but she's still so pretty without it. The little bells actually jingle and everything :D[IMG]

    2. She is very sweet. Im glad all the confusion didn't stress you out & upset you. It must have been disappointing to not have your doll yet after all the excitement of the box opening.
Sounds like you were careful with her in the unboxing & nothing for you to feel bad about in this unfortunate mixup.

Hope your doll arrives soon!!!! <3

    3. as someone who has been involved in a company caused shipping snafu, i very much doubt that this will "ruin the magic" for the other person, please don't worry about it. :)
it was really weird because the doll head i received was basically the opposite of what i had ordered and i was still like "huh..... he looks really different in person" for a minute LMAO! i had ordered a boy in paper white skin who had a sweet expression, and the head they sent me was a girl in tan with a very dour expression. i'm faceblind (though doll collecting has actually helped me with this a bit!) so i was kind of blaming it on myself for a minute until i checked the CoA and confirmed it was a different head.

so don't feel bad at all, it's not your fault. in fact, despite it taking some extra time to get my head, i had fun emailing and writing a little letter and shipping off the head to exchange with the person who received my head. it was nice to connect with another collector for a bit.

regardless, i hope your girl arrives soon and you can have a lot of fun unboxing her too!

    4. If someone else received my doll in error, I'd be thankful they were willing to return her in as pristine a fashion as possible. I wouldn't sweat this, @babytadpole

    5. thank you, this makes me feel a lot better!

    6. thank you! to be honest, it has been kinda fun in a weird way. Obviously it sucks but going back and forth with the retailer is nice, too, somehow :3nodding:

    7. it definitely has been a bummer, once all the excitement of putting things away was over I was a bit sad, haha. The retailer doesn't know if my actual doll is shipped yet or what but we're both hoping she'll get here before xmas. Thank you!!!

    8. I agree with @saraquill ; whoever she belongs to will just be grateful you are willing to to return her and get her to the right home. You took the time and care to repackage her and reach out to the retailer for help. Hopefully your girl comes home soon.

The magic isn't ruined especially since so many of us buy second hand. All second hand dolls have already been opened and played with. As long as they are new to you, it will feel magical no matter what!

    9. Agreeing with the above. If someone else received my doll in error and returned her in pristine condition, I'd just be grateful, not bummed. I just hope that you get your own girl soon!

    10. It is not your fault. And an honest error by Ringdoll. You have no reason to feel guilty or bad. It is admirable that you were sweet and kind enough to return her in the condition in which she arrived. And don't worry if any of the packaging is not perfect. I'm sure Ringdoll will unbox her and check her over before sending her on to the rightful owner. They will most likely re-do her bubble wrap, etc.
With so many people putting in orders for the same dolls, mistakes are bound to happen occasionally. :)

    11. I would be happy that the person who received her was honest enough to send her to me rather than keep her! And even more so if she arrived in the exact same condition the company sent her in. I would mostly just be upset if she came to me damaged, dirty, smelling like smoke or covered in pet fur. As long as she was still in new condition, it's all good!

If I received the wrong doll, I would also contact the company immediately. I might not even consider that it belonged to somebody else, just that the order was wrong, but I'd be happy to send her along if she did belong to someone else. I'd get her back in the box as perfectly as I was able, and make sure not to share any box opening photos or videos just so they could still have that for themself. I might even tuck a little note or souvenir into the box, something to show for the doll's mini vacation!

    12. Well, maybe this is their strange new viral marketing campaign where they accidentally send you the wrong doll so you'll fall in love with it? It's hard not to fall in love with a pretty doll plopped into your hands! I'm sure your grandma would appreciate if you ordered one of these girls.

I wouldn't feel guilty. You didn't do anything wrong! You just opened a doll you thought was the one you ordered.

I had someone open one of my first dolls before me. I found out when I noticed the second set of box opening photos on my camera that my mom had sneakily opened her for a peek and took photos for me. She said I wouldn't be able to hold a camera still when I was that excited and she was right about that but I was mad at her! I got over it quickly because I just got my new doll and I was super excited about her! I opened her doll (which was a twin of the one she opened) in front of her in retribution.

If I received the wrong doll after hundreds of dollars months of waiting, I'd honestly be pretty pissed that the company was that negligent! I understand mistakes happen but every doll order is significant enough it should be double checked. That's hundreds of dollars after all and the mistake would cost quite a bit in shipping to return and send to the right person. I would never be mad at the person who got my swapped doll though. It's not their fault!

    13. Its not your fault hun you didn't expect to receive a different doll than ordered. I'm sure whoever will get here will be happy she's finally with them :)

    14. that's true about people buying second hand, I hadn't thought of that. thank you :whee:

    15. thank you, me too!!

    16. so it's going to the retailer here in the UK rather than ringdoll, but I'm sure that it still applies! I hadn't thought of that so thank you

    17. haha, I did consider that. I was thinking about this the other day, since she's basically just visiting us.

    18. wow! yeah, that might annoy me too. it's super cute that you and your mom have twin dolls!!! :D

    19. I hope so, too!! here's hoping that they're not too bummed about the whole thing
