1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

"Safe" Doll Clothing

Jan 24, 2013

    1. Please direct me if there is a thread about this already.

I am new to dolls~ I have a white skinned Pipos Curo and soon to have a Littlefee Ante... and I am scared to death of buying clothing/wigs for them that will stain them. Originally I was going to stick with only light colored clothes but I'm already finding myself yearning for some dark outfits!

Are there any fabrics that are "safe" and don't bleed? Are the high end brands (Volks, Luts, RL, etc) less likely to stain?

I have heard some people say that they wash all new doll clothes in hot water, but I was concerned that this would cause them to shrink! It pains me to do anything to a $100 outfit.

    2. It likely won't shrink, you could also wash them with vinegar to bring the excess dye out. You could also use some older clothing you don't use anymore that's been washed a few times if you wanna make it.

    3. As a seamstress, let me give you some basics. Some colors are going to stain a lot easier than others. Vivid jewel tones, deep, rich colors, reds and blacks and dark blues, cna often stain. Ever bought a pair of jeans to see that they turned your legs green? Yup.

Always, always ALWAYS wash your fabric before using it if it's new! Always! For very deep colors, before i sew, I like to let them soak in lukewarm water for a while before I wash them. Even aside form fading and staining, it's just going to make your fabric easier to work with. Course, that's just if you're doing the sewing yourself. I would assume that the fabric it's made from, your bought outfits, will already be pre washed, but soaking it still a good idea.

    4. Buy those white whole-body stockings for your dolls before putting the dark coloured clothes on?

    5. Arashi and Syri Thanks for the washing tips! I'll have to try them out. I'm still nervous that somehow I'll ruin an expensive outfit, but it's better than ruining my doll

leXis yeah, I bought one for my Littlefee, but I don't have one for my Curo (can't find the right size) and I'm sure there will be times I don't want the stocking on because it will show ^^

    6. Just change out the dark colors if you are worried. I've rarely had problems with staining. Just don't put dark things over faceups or body blushing for LONG periods of time.

I think the few times I've had a bit of staining was mostly from black wig caps... so it's usually not a problem since you can magic-sponge it off and it doesn't really show anyway...

    7. I have a pure white Dearmine who wears black pants and a black wig. They sometimes rub off on him, but if you clean them every now and then with a magic eraser you should be fine. He's had smudges, but nothing that didn't easily come off.

    8. I tend to dress my dolls in light colors for this reason... LOL

    9. Clothing brand or expense has no effect on staining. Price will usually effect the detailing of the clothing or expense of the material, but some fabrics are just more apt to leave a stain. Really nice dark jeans are still made from stainy stainy denim. :(

I don't really worry about it with my resin dolls, they wear a lot of dark colors. I've never come across a stain that couldn't be removed with a Magic Eraser.
      *knock on wood*

Sealant tends to hold onto stains really well and you don't want to scrub it too hard with your Magic Eraser. So when I get black wig stains at the hair line (on the faceup), I just keep their wig on so I don't see it! When I have removed a faceup to repaint it, the stains come off with the paint.

If you can't find a bodystocking for your Curo, stick to white/beige/pastels and you'll be fine.

    10. Wow I'm feeling relieved after ^ posted.
I can save some extra bucks of not buying the not-so-pretty body stockings and get myself a magic eraser instead! ^^

    11. I'll have to put a magic eraser on my grocery list xD

    12. just have them wearing white/light colored clothing when you're not playing with them and check for stains every now and then (if you find any they should come out right away with a Magic Eraser)
if you don't keep you dolls in dark colors all the time then you shouldn't have too much of a problem with staining
