It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Selling a doll the day you get it

Dec 15, 2013

    1. Oftentimes I'll see sales posts in the MP for dolls that the seller says just arrived that day. It confuses me why someone would spend that kind of money, wait months for the doll, then decide "meh" and immediately decide to sell it. What reasons are there that people would do that? Do they just fall out of love with the doll during the wait? Do they find a better sculpt for the character during the wait? Is the sculpt different from what they thought it would look like, or the doll just doesn't fit in with the others? I can't imagine myself doing it, so I'm just curious to hear reasons why people would, in addition to the above.

    2. Yes, honestly, I don't get it either though for some folks it may be a matter of money. They bought the doll then something happened & they need the money more. So I guess it would make sense to sell it that way as it could be easier to sell a doll you haven't bonded with yet.

    3. No idea. Maybe they're flipping the doll, maybe they saw it in person and hated it, maybe their cat needed an operation, who knows?

    4. I sold a doll only a couple days after I received it (and after a very long wait) and my reason was a combination of things.

I thought the doll was wonderful, but she was a little different than what I had expected from company photos. I didn't feel that bond or that over-the-top excitement upon opening her, etc. I don't get to spend much time with my dolls and I felt like she wouldn't get the attention she deserved. I just knew that a different owner would enjoy and cherish her more.

If you sell a doll immediately, there's no worry of yellowing or damage - and especially if it's a limited, the likelihood of getting close to your full purchase amount back is pretty high. I was able to use the money towards other hobby wants.

Also, part of it may be that I got 2 dolls at once. I was much more excited over the other doll when I opened them, and that may have had something to do with things too.

    5. I thing that might happen for plenty of reasons, basically, everybody has their own circumstances in life that can change. Plus some people can buy a doll on a whim and realise it before it even arrives, so they have to sell it in the end. Or some doll appears while waiting that you fall in love with and realise you don't really want the doll that's coming anymore... So many reasons for a decision like this! Basically, you might just dislike it's personality when it's finally home... Well, there's a lot.

    6. This has happened to me several times. Sometimes, something had happened during the long wait that had turned me off from the doll. Sometimes my tastes had changed in the meantime.
Another time, it was an impulse buy that I ended up regretting.
And sometimes a doll can just turn out to be a disappointment. They don't always look the same as they do in pictures in real life.
I usually give the doll a few days, to find out if it can stay or not, but one time I did put up a body for sale the same day I got it. It turned out to be incredibly heavy and I could barely lift it. Some things just don't show in sales threads or on company photos.

    7. While the doll didn't get listed for sale immediately, I had one doll arrive recently where I knew he wouldn't work for the character the moment I opened the box. I bought him for a specific character and he wasn't right for that character. That's something you can't necessarily tell from other people's photos.

I ended up boxing him back up and putting him in storage for a while. He didn't work for any other ideas I had, didn't suit any wig or eye ideas I thought of, so after a month or so I listed him for sale. He got traded for a doll who is perfect for the character (and he was a dream doll for his new owner!), so it all worked out for the best. :D

    8. I am more confused by people who buy a doll and then when they receive it and don't like it, proceed to then spend MORE money trying to make themselves like it. That baffles me. I can tell pretty much from the moment I open a box whether or not a doll is staying and I don't see any reason to waste more time or money on a doll I don't want.

    9. IDK why people do that but I'm sure there are many reasons to do so. I have one doll that I've not loved at first and the longer I have her the more I like her. For me I need time to either decide it's a keeper or not. But I see some people who buy lots of dolls at one time they have to wait several months to get them then only keep a couple they really like. I only buy one doll at a time because I could never justify to my husband why I'm ordering 5 dolls at once that would never fly lol

    10. I would never sell the same day. When I got my Honey Delf Choco, I hated her. Actually hated her. But I gave her a chance and I made her a boy. Then I loved her (but not for long). I did eventually sell him but it was very later on down the line. NEVER the same day!

    11. Yeah....when you don't bond with something, you really just don't. My first doll I bought on a whim because she just looked so sweet on the site. I had her as a wallpaper for a long time. But people in my office complained and said she looked too scary, so I was forced to change my wallpaper. Strangely, I fell out of love when I couldn't see her and started to doubt myself. When she shipped later than everyone else, I even resented her for a that. (yeah...that doesn't make sense at all but it happened). Luckily, when I opened her box it was love all over again. I mean, I could have hated her but the bonding happened immediately because the faceup was exactly the same as the pictures. I'm sure it would have been a different story if I had ordered her blank or if they had screwed up the faceup.

For me, I just blame it on my own fickleness. But I do believe that when the buying and waiting experience is marred by unpleasantness, people tend to want to get rid of that doll so they don't have to relive that unpleasant feeling every time they see the doll.

    12. Ah, disappointment - I know it well! A classic reason and it is so often the case. Those beautiful pre-production website photos can tempt so bad!

    13. I've done same day as doll arrives sale before, usually it happens while im waiting for it to arrive, And a doll gets released by a company that i like more xD;

You usually get a 1-3 months to think about it during the wait time so i can see why its pretty common.

    14. Well, not everyone can tell from the first moment if a doll will stay or has to go. Sometimes it may be a simple matter of a wrong face-up or something alike. And when the hindering problem that kept them from liking the doll is resolved they might actually love the doll. But if they sold it right away only to realise later what the problem was they'd regret it.

I know what I'm speaking of, I had the problem with my Elfdoll Ruru. I was so happy I got the chance to buy her (she's a long sold out LE) and I loved the official pictures of her but when she arrived I hated her on first sight. Somehow she wasn't what I was expecting even though she had the official face-up and all. But I wanted to give it a try, I gave her a new face-up and changed her overall style - and I fell instantly in love again. Now I'm more than glad I didn't sell her right away.

    15. That's pretty much what happened to my Soom Arkose... I got him, unpacked him, didn't like the color he turned out to be (It was much more purple "live" than it had been in pictures-), packed him back up the same day and eventually ended up selling him because I couldn't come up with a darn thing to do with him. I had a Migi Yujin head (I listed that one for sale the same afternoon I got him-) and an Angell Studio Gabriel (Who was repacked immediately and sold about a week later-) that met the same fate. I didn't like the Yujin's expression and the Gabriel's sculpting was a very poor style match for the rest of my dolls. I knew they weren't going to stay the minute they came out of the box.

Sometimes you just get a doll and they're not what you expected them to be. It can be difficult to tell exactly what a sculpt actually looks like from a photograph, resin colors can be off, sculptural styles can turn out to be incompatible with your other dolls... There are all kinds of things that can turn out to be "off" once you have a doll in-hand. Things that a simple change of eyes, or wig, or face-up or wardrobe CAN'T fix. If you recognize that immediately, there's really no reason to hang on to it.

    16. I would never do that. Just in case I really really REALLY needed money immediately and knew the dolls was highly sought after and would sell immediately. That way I wouldn't get the chance to bond.

I had dolls that arrived and when I saw them I didn't love them as much as expected. But with a little change like eyes, wig and clothes it usually works out. If I still don't really bond I'll commission a new face-up or just get a new face-plate or head. Living in Germany I would just loose too much money by selling immediately due to the high fees I have to pay for all my dolls...

But I can see why others do so. It saddens me if a doll was just bought to sell it immmediately for a much higher price but then again it gives others the chance to own said doll.

    17. I've bought dolls from people right after or even before arrival. Usually the reasons are monetary. One was because their mom got laid off. Another was that they saw a doll they wanted more and needed the money for it. I'm sure there are a ton of reasons, good and bad, out there.

    18. I am the same way. I remember once I got a VERY expensive fullset doll from Volks, and he was totally wrong for either of the characters I wanted him to be. A friend suggested maybe a new faceup would make me like him more... but no, I didn't want to spend the money. I didn't like his body at all, and even a new faceup might not have made him into who I wanted. Better to sell him complete and exactly as I received him, and not lose any of his resale value.

The only time I could understand making a doll work (whether you like it or not) is if it was a gift and you didn't want to sell it, or if it was your only choice available and you HAD to make it work. Otherwise, why not sell it right away?

I can't afford to keep a doll that I know won't work for me. I'd rather have that money for something I DO love. And I usually can tell right away in person whether a doll will work for me or not. (I can't always tell from photos.)So I almost always sell them right away.

    19. I've done this once before, I traded with someone and the doll I got was sooo yellow I couldn't stand it.. Therefore up she went and I got rid of her in about 15 minutes ;) Also I don't think there is anything wrong with people doing this, maybe they didn't like it as much in person.

    20. I haven't sold the same day, but I have sold within a month. Reasons?

-It didn't look like pictures and didn't fit the character.
-Bad experience with the company ruined the doll.
      -It didn't pose as expected.
-It was an impulse buy and I regretted it.
-In the time it took to get it, something more suitable for the character was released.
-Accepted a trade for something not on my list, but liked better than the item I was trading. Got it home, realized it wasn't for me.
-The character fell through in the time it took to get the doll.
